The best thing that came out of the pandemic was discovering how many people I could easily live without……especially the work “friends” who were clearly cutting into my production.
I’m entirely comfortable keeping my own company. But solitude has its limits for me, and I also enjoy being out among others (even if it’s just people watching at a cafe). I have very few good friends, but their company can be most enjoyable.
Aside from my husband, I’m perfectly happy with my own company. My bff are Ms Kindle and Ms Sewing Machine. I have two friends back home that we spend time with but as for the rest of the human population, pass.
The only comic I’ve read today that’s not Valentine’s themed.
(And yes, I do find the idea of staying home and reading every night increasingly appealing, and social obligations that take me away from my Kindle are less and less welcome.)
With the Rise of 45, I found myself on the Other Side from most of family and friends I grew up with. I distanced myself. Didn’t miss the drama, enjoyed all the online materials I could get from my local library.
But now have some texts/emails with my sister, got to wish her happy 70th a couple days ago. We’ve managed to not make any references to POTUS past or present.
That’s a sharp social commentary right there. Most of the messages we see from self-appointed gurus, life coaches and influencers is “don’t spend time with people you don’t like.“ Maybe not those exact words, but the message is the same.

That’s me, pretty much. Every now and then I put my book down and visit GoComics, but otherwise I find my own company to be entirely congenial.

So if Danny Donkey spent the rest of the year in the closest, does that mean he’s gay but won’t admit it? Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
