so much to love here. Ora’s upside down attack mode! clinking mugs of cocoa! Iggy leaning in in panel one. and Tommy on the ground floor. a total team effort? but wait…… where is Lupin? something tells me he’s about to go full Lupin out of nowhere!
Once I took a cultural anthropology course, in which a group activity was figuring out the difference between a cup and a mug. Took a Venn diagram, a lot of imagination, and agreeing to disagree.
Georgia left a lovely picture of herself and Elvis, getting ready to settle down for the night. She said he settles on her pillow (believing it to be his). Then he proceeds to attempt to push her head off with his rump, letting out a series of exasperated sighs as he does. This really made me laugh. She also said Lupin used to sleep on her arm and sometimes she still thinks he’s there and hopes he is, invisibly.
Attention all Orbsters. Georgia is in the process of picking some strips to enter for the 2023 Rueben Awards. If you have a favorite strip(s), please post them here. It may help Georgia choose which strips to submit.
Some of my favorites from last year were: Ghost Angus leading the kittens to safety with his lantern. Also, Ora Zella sees a Christmas Tree for the very first time. Finally, the one where Elvis is upset with the woman over giving Lupin a bell for his collar.
Georgia posted a lovely picture of Elvis snuggled with her and said "How Elvis and I sleep every night. In a few hours he will make his way onto my pillow—as though it’s his own cat bed—and start shoving me off it as hard as he can with his rump and a series of annoyed little sighs. Most of the night I hold him like a teddy bear, with his feet cupped in one of my hands. When I roll over, he begrudgingly gets up to follow and settle back into place. Crawls under the covers and turns around, to have the blankets over him. The Man and Goldie sleep peacefully beside it all. Lupin used to sleep draped over my arm, and sometimes Elvis would creep up and still settle in like this. Sometimes my arm still reaches out to check on Lupin. And I’m grateful to be able to sleep like this with Elvis in his old age, too. And wish Lupin could have had an old age. Sometimes Iggy creeps up and settles behind my knees. Hopefully Lupin still curls into his spot unseen, in the hours after Elvis, Iggy, and I fall asleep. Right before Elvis shoves me off the pillow, pushing his little rear backwards as hard as he can. "
I am loving the joyful chittering from Iggy. I wonder if they can try the trick of microwaving snow for Ora Zella. Then again, that would probably lead to her concluding snow has litter in it. Georgia has drawn the windows beautifully in this strip!
Kitty Katz has melted into a pile of goo due to an overload of joy and cuteness. She will resume filking and storytelling tomorrow, after she reconstitutes.
I wonder what the secret is to watercoloring around blank-spot “snowflakes” like that. It looks almost as though little drops of something were put onto the page, painted around, and then removed. Clever and lovely!
Once, as a child, a friend and I ate a lot of crusted snow. We both came down with pneumonia and were sick for the better part of a month. Ora Zella is a very small cat, ain’t hardly there at all. Ain’t hardly got no sense, either.
Speaking of ain’t hardly got no sense, the toebean addicts are probably going wild.
Also speaking of ain’t hardly got no sense, Note to Lupin: Do not eat pink snow. (Realzies. It’s toxic.)
Something I’m wondering . . . if Tommy is on the ground floor monitoring accumulation, and the main station cats are one floor up monitoring rate of fall, what are the upstairs cats doing? Long-range forecasting (i.e. looking to the horizon)?
The first time my Snowball (on the left) saw snow falling, he literally raced from window to window to make sure it was falling outside each one. Once he had done that he ran up to me yelling at the top of his lungs and led me to the front door to be let out. I opened the door and he charged out to the middle of the front yard. He came to an abrupt halt, looked down at his feet, which were covered in about an inch of snow, looked back at me and charged back into the house. He never would go out in the snow after that :D https://imgur.com/gallery/iqR2b2o
Smokey used to love getting a white wash, though only as long as it was when snow was supposed to be on the ground. She had this sense of when it was supposed to be spring and would get annoyed if she got a white wash then. Late fall through winter she wwas actually expecting getting the snow rubbed into her head and would purr something fierce after she got one. She even looked longingly at the snow when it was falling until you got the idea and stepped out on the stoop with her to white wash her.

Snow chitters, wide is Ora’s smile
Devouring snow for miles today
Oh, void maker, Elvis heart breaker
Whenever it’s snowin’, he’s filled with dismay
Two kittens, off to see the snow
There’s such a lot of snow to see
Tommy’s ruler, hope it doesn’t bend
Waitin’ for storm’s end
A great all-weather friend
Sweet giver, Tommy

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Sophititi: I think for Ora Z we should do a multicolor ensemble suitable for tumbling. We can do a contrasting ensemble for Lupinium.
Maat-Tilda: How about we have them doing the concluding Thwump?
Soph: That’s a great idea. What kind of fabric do we have for that?
Adobe Style: The Royal Procurers have several lengths of patterned prints, and a fruit-themed print to match Lupinium’s current fruit color.
Enter Arachna
Ari: Anyone want some Nommy Nom Spider Treats?
Tillie: Thanks. I trust the locust plague went well?
Ari: Yep. And the locusts have another plague scheduled for next week.
Enter Ora Z
Adobe Style: Hello, Ora! You’ve come just in time to see the fabrics we have picked out for you.
Ora: Oooh, they’re pretty. Can I eat the fruit fabric?
Soph: Ha, ha. No. It’s not that tasty, I’m afraid.
Ora: I see you have Nommy Nom Spider Treats! Can I have some?
Ari: Sure. Help yourself.
Ora: Devour treats!
Ari: It’s a good thing there’s another locust plague soon.

Dreamed I was an eskimo
Frozen wind began to blow
Under my fur and around my toes
The frost that bit the ground below
It was a hundred degrees below zero…
And my mama cried
And my mama cried
Ora Zella, a-no-no
Ora Zella, a-no-no
Don’t be a naughty kitty-o
Save your money, don’t go to the show
Well I turned around and I said oh, oh oh
Well I turned around and I said oh, oh oh
Well I turned around and I said ho, ho
And the northern lights commenced to glow
And she said, with a tear in her eye
Watch out where the huskies go,
And don’t you eat that yellow snow
Watch out where the huskies go,
And don’t you eat that yellow snow
