And we’re back on air. The long national nightmare is over. I can’t tell you how worried I was when Georgia first got hurt that once again, a great comic strip would end due to illness. Thankfully she recovered and honestly with the stress of getting ready to move soon, it’s great having my comfort strip back. Granted Sundays will now probably be gone, but it’s a fine tradeoff. I cannot tell you how much this strip has meant to me, getting me through this move and my own cats passing a few months ago.
I wasn’t expecting Georgia to cover her hand injury here, but i’m glad for it both to see best son elvis, and because a lot of the best strips come from real life. While the strips sprawling stories and great characters are mostly on her, a lot of good stuff comes just from taking the real cats actions and running with them. What had to be a real life litterbox kerfuffle becomes Iggy adorably playing in the sandbox and Lupin having an oh so cathaartic meltdown about his age. So how the cats reacted to her hand injury will be intresting. Elvis is both naturally first and naturally hovering around her. He’s not telling other cats she’ll never love them yet, but it’s implied.
First of all, Elvis, you need to keep the woman from licking the wound too much. Tell her if she doesn’t stop, she will be put in the cone of shame. They are available at the clinic at Chicago Med. Second, I suggest checking on her at least 25-30 times an hour. Jump on her to ensure her reflexes are good, and splay across her chest and face to ensure she’s breathing well. If she tells you to stop, don’t; that’s just wound talking.
I have checked Grey’s Anatomy and she should make a full recovery. However, if she tries to come back too fast, she could wind up in the ER at General Hospital. However, if she stays quiet and rests in the HOUSE, we can avoid returning to St. Elsewhere.
Remember, you know what’s best for her. I have consulted two specialists, Dr. Marcus Welby and Dr. Kildare, and they have confirmed your treatment as sound and pointed out the patient is doomed if she doesn’t follow your treatment regime. If you need her, Nurse Jackie is available for questions, as well as Doc Martin (although he’s a bit cranky).
Well, good luck to you. Just remember, patients can be Royal Pains in the rear.
About four months before General Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House, President Lincoln wrote to a mother who lost all her sons in the Civil War. The letter was delivered to Lydia Bixby on November 25, 1864. By the end of 1865, it is estimated that 620,000 soldiers had given the last full measure of devotion to their cause. Although, the true number of those killed will never be truly known.

Dear Madam,
I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.
I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom.
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: We are honored to have Captain Courageous and his ship the Godspeed here with us.
Captain Courageous: Thank you, Your Majesty. It’s always been. an honor and a privilege to transport those who have so bravely served across the river to their Home.
The Queen: And now I would like to invite you all to partake of a barbecue prepared by Thomios and his crew. This is a time of remembrance and a celebration of those who have gone before.
Sometime Later
Captain Courageous: And now I will take my leave of you and sail west towards the sunset.
Elvis – I will never leave her side. I will follow her into the kitchen. I will follow her into the bedroom. I will sit by her on the red couch. I will follow her into the bathroom. I will follow her …."
Georgia, we see that thanks to Elvis’ constant, devoted (and dignified) care you have recovered completely. Please let him know how grateful we are for his efforts, without which … well, let’s not think about that! Welcome back!
Hello, everyone!! Thank you so, so much for all of your patience, kindness, encouragement, and support while my hand has been healing up. Finally, new daily strips are “live” again! We’ll have three more weeks of classic Sundays (since I work further ahead on Sunday strips!) and then the comic will be 100% live once more. I’m happy to say my hand is (mostly!) healed up. Very little pain, save around the scar for the incision, which I have been told is normal and should continue to improve with more time. My hand gets pretty tight in the evenings, but that is getting better weekly. When I am writing or drawing, my hand is at its most comfortable thankfully! This has been heck, to evoke Beatrix, but I am so grateful it was nothing worse and I am so thankful for all of you. Thank you!!

I was wondering if there was going to be a Woman Injured Her Paw report. Elvis is behaving exactly as expected for a Dedicated Velcro Cat, too.
…Now I’m wondering if the Reporters are going to wonder where the Woman’s cone is…(so much EASIER when we could just say the Boys!)

…I did not plan it this way, but I kinda love how it worked out?

Puckmosis: I’m going over to the hospital pyramid to visit the patients. Want to come, Bea?
Beatrixia: Just let me collect a few scrolls to take over and I’ll be ready.
Elvis-Anum: You’re going to the hospital pyramid? I, too will go to the pyramid.
At the Salubrious Hospital Pyramid
Elvis: Lupinium! What brings you to the Salubrious Pyramid?
Lupinium: I do this every week. I hold my special tumbling therapy class, it’s a favorite Physical Therapy.
Puckmosis: So that’s why you disappear sometimes, even when there isn’t a white background anywhere.
Lupinium: That’s right. And Ora Z sometimes comes with me. She’s with the Kittens right now.
At the Kitten Ward
Ora Z: Hi, everyone! I’d like to show you my new Xyzlaphone! You can play music by hitting these pieces of wood. Like this!
Kitten: That looks like fun! Can I try?
Ora Z: Sure. Just take these mallets and go like this. What’s your name?
Kitten: I’m Abby, and these are my friends Mau-Net and Purr-Cilla.
Ora Z: Why don’t we make up a song to go with the X-phone? (Yes, I’m getting lazy typing this—KK).
We just made a Xyzlaphone now we made a song!
We just made a Xyzlaphone now we made a song!
We just made a Xyzlaphone now we made a song!
And we’re gonna sing and play the whole day long!
Puckmosis: Time to go back, everyone.
Abby: Can you come back?
Ora Z: I think so. And I’ll bring my friend Iggy.
