The Fact Shannon is completely unfazed about not seeing her father for a whole month is very telling.

Toni and Brad need to have a long chat about it and hopefully tell Jonah it’s not possible.

You know, it might be enlightening to ask Jonah, what he would do if he didn’t have a family to take advantage of?

“Who” would he leave Shannon with THEN??

Shannon thinks the only one who needs to ‘plan’ anything is she herself, and, since she’s packed already, no probs. She doesn’t recognize that her aunt and uncle have lives of their own (jobs and personal stuff) that they need to plan possible changes for, if Shannon is there for a month. But it’s not a surprise that a child wouldn’t see that. What’s sad is that Jonah doesn’t see it…

I still say he’s going to leave and never come back. A month in LA becomes six months in Europe becomes see ya when I see ya. A deadbeat is a deadbeat and this Jonah guy is the head dead.

Best that could happen for Toni and Brad and Shannon would be for Jonah to be killed in an accident leaving Toni and Brad to adopt Shannon. This would solve several problems.

Toni would give in, he using his sister. Shannon is unfazed..She does not relezie what her dad during to her aunt. What kid would not want a puppy?

I have a nagging feeling that Brad and Toni are going to adopt Shannon. Something is going to happen to Jonah.

That “ask” shouldn’t have been in front of Shannon. I’m surprised Brad still wants a kid, after constantly dealing with someone else’s.

Wait a minute. Jonah has a CHOICE about being a parent? Seems to me that that choice was made at least 6 years ago. Don’t beget the kid if you can’t spend 20 years raising it. (Or ’Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time’.) Maybe Johan will disappear for awhile and then bring back more kids for his sister to raise. Toni will say yes for Shannon’s sake, but she’s enabling her brother at this point.

Does Jonah even pay Toni and Brad anything for Shannon’s up-keep?

Jonah appears more reasonable than he seemed yesterday. It’s fun to see how similar Jonah and Shannon are, it’s also nice to see them smiling to each other with complicity. Despite everything, they love each other very much. I wonder what the alternative is to Toni if ​​she can’t looks after Shannon. Entrust her to his weird aunt Chad? Jonah needs to choose his daughter first and his work around that…he’s a dad, time to start acting like one.

Prediction: They’re going to tell Jonah it can’t be done. Shannon will be upset. Everyone’s relationships with each other will be strained. Brad and Toni, at the last minute, will change their minds and Shannon will be allowed to stay as long as she wants. Then, something happens to Jonah, and Shannon has nowhere else to go, so….

Glad Toni wants to discuss with Brad first. Jonah seems to realize it is a BIG ask, or he’s giving lip service. He’s very selfish. Shannon needs discipline, BIG time. This perpetually mouthy kid is tiresome. I don’t think Brad is pleased, especially now that they seem to be in agreement about starting their own family.

How is a month any different? Shannon is there all the time.

One of these days (hopefully soon) Brad needs to take Jonah aside and explain the facts of life to him. Brad has a heavy investment in this and it’s got to be very disturbing watching his wife being manipulated by her brother, not to mention Shannon who is growing up like a ping pong ball. Brad needs to dictate some terms to him, whether he likes it or not. If he’s not willing to do it, maybe Brad could ask TJ if he has any friends for the “talent” required for the job. I’m sure he knows someone.

I wonder if we’re seeing a sort of adoption in Brad and Toni’s future? Jonah clearly can’t – or won’t – take responsibility for Shannon.

At the bare minimum, the father will need to provide and sign a ‘Power of Attorney for Child’ form to give Shannon and Brad legal authority to provide for Shannon if necessary – such as emergency medical care, forms such as school or YMCA, or any event requiring proof of custody.

The Daytona family has a lot of hair. And that’s about all I can say about them.

Brad is a poor excuse of a dad and it isn’t fair to always leave her behind and make it a burden on his sister and husband. What will that do to Shannon when she one day realizes what a burden she was made to be. Years of therapy ahead.

Here’s the thing…. if Jonah can’t take care of her properly, then he needs to either get a more stable job, track down Shannon’s mother and hand her off, or put her in foster care. It isn’t Brad/Toni’s problem and they obviously don’t want Shannon around as much as her deadbeat bum father expects.

Toni really needs to have the custody agreement reworked, and take full custody of her daughter. It’s obvious Jonah wants nothing to do with Shannon, and I’m sure Brad would rather have Toni’s ex completely out of the picture.

Isn’t Shannon smart enough to realize that puppies last longer than a month?? She’s already acting like she’s going to be there permanently. Maybe her intuition is telling her something.

Shannon is not being a brat for asking for a puppy. That is a very normal request that almost all kids make. And she is stating a fact that she is already packed. She is behaving perfectly normal in today’s strip.

Obviously Shannon does not live with B and T most of the time. Jonah admits that her living with them for a whole month is a big favor. So Shannon must just stay with them for a couple days a few times a month.

So, when do Brad and Toni adopt Shannon?

Ouch, wonder what this could lead to….. ;-)

Earlier this week, Sheriff Mordecai commented that readers have no idea where this is going. So I await for the story’s unfolding.

Yes, Jonah. Leaving Shannon with your siter and brother-in-law IS a big deal, and, will take some planing on their, AND, your part. Even if Toni and Braad get some help from Nancy, Frank, and, Luann. Are YOU ready to step up, and, HELP with the planning, the expense?

Gotta say it… The Count is not sure who he finds less likable (an understatement)… Jonah or Shannon. Both are spoiled entitled privileged selfish brats in their own way. And Tuff Tattoed Tone’ Toni’s planning is for a month in Monaco at the resorts and casinos with Our Dearest Ann❤️Eiffel stalking the Wild Shoog Daddies with the other ❤️Eiffelettes. BONUS… They will be joined by Retro Vintage ❤️Eiffelette… HotLips❤️Horner fresh from a stint in Assisted Living. As we all know, HotLips❤️Horner is an original Jazz Baby and Flapper and contemporary of Louise❤️Brooks, Jean❤️Harlow (who owned three Old English Sheepdogs collectively called Trio who costarred with her in “Bombshell”…a Count❤️Olaf favorite) and Una❤️Merkel… a real life relative of our Be❤️ed Count. What’s to plan, Shannon has it all planned out.

Jonah needs to understand that Toni and Brad are a newly married couple, they need to concentrate on each other, before they have kids. And he’ll never know Shannon, unless he tones down or even quits his current career, gets something with more time. She’s young now, but he’s already sowing the seeds of resentment, or possibly hatred.

This story can be difficult to follow and comment on because it’s complex and unfolds over a long period in our time. I think it’s heavily influenced by Toni and Jonah’s back story as young orphans raised by an indifferent, or just flaky, aunt. That led to both of them being messed up teens, with Toni dating Dirk the psychopath and Jonah fathering a child at age 15 or so, then ending up a single father when Shannon’s mom disappeared. They are now each other’s only family,(yes, they are fortunate to now have the DeGroots, but Shannon predates that) so it’s not all that surprising that Jonah would turn to Toni. Given their background, it’s not surprising that both show some less positive traits in this matter, Jonah in taking Toni for granted and Toni not standing her ground in the past. Jonah has become much better about adhering to schedules and giving notice since Toni finally blew up at him for dumping Shannon on her w/o notice on her way to a wedding meeting. I know some insist nothing has changed since then. I disagree, but the changes are subtle, not dramatic, and unfold slowly.

I predict Shannon will get her children’s book published, make big bucks and move to LA with that goober who tried to produce Tiffany’s movie eons ago.

This is not the end of it. As long as Brad and Toni keep caving, they can expect to be taking care of Shannon at least till age 18. But then the character of Shannon gives us more chances for Brad and Toni arcs.

I don’t think Jonah has a Plan B if Toni and Brad don’t take her. He’s pretty much taken it for granted that they will always babysit her.
