Oh, Luann, sweetie-pie, you REALLY needed to stop after poking your eye. Getting flashbacks to when I went to do mascara and braced my elbow not on the counter, but straight on top of my flat iron. That took actual months to heal…
It seems to be one of those days for Luann. She must be concentrating or worried about something because she isn’t giving herself full attention when getting herself ready. One little thought elsewhere, and those kinds of accidents happen. Maybe she is angry about something to have rubbed that hard.
Luann is not ugly, but her best cards to play are her friendly girl next door personality and her decent body. Shorts and a tank top should work well for her.
This reminds me of a co-worker back when I was working. She was a rather pretty black girl. One day when she came to work her face was splotchy, like she had been beat up. I was appalled that that could have happened to her. Turned out she hadn’t had time to put on her make-up that day. I was seeing the unevenness of her skin tone. I was so naive back then that I didn’t know it was problem they faced.
At least she realizes she’s an attractive young woman and is making an attempt to be ‘gorgeous’. In recent months she’s seemed so dowdy and modest, almost as if she doesn’t want to be looked at. Not the girl we used to know!
When I was first starting to use makeup I poked myself in the eye with the mascara wand a few times. Not a pretty sight. I finally mastered it though. Unfortunately these days my dry eye prevents me from using any eye makeup. So I’m back to relying on my “natural beauty” HAHA! But ya gotta do what ya gotta do. : (
Remember this is Luannverse, we read it, and all the world we enjoy is hers. Being hilarious is her basic mission. For trolls (not that it will matter) consider that when the impulse to troll comes up.
Gads! Anyone who pokes their eye with a mascara brush hard enough to make it swell shut, scrubs their skin raw and then burns a scar into their forehead with a curling iron has got to have that condition where they don’t feel anything. Or maybe a condition where they can’t concentrate? Or something wrong with basic reflexes.
All 3 of those injuries could have easily been avoided by anyone who was not using those products for the first time. This looks like something a 12 year old would do the first time she uses a curling iron or mascara.
I have scrubbed very vigorously with an exfoliation glove and never left burn marks on my face. Luann would have noticed the pain if she scrubbed hard enough to leave marks and she would NOT have scrubbed that hard all over her face.
Oh, come on, people. It’s a comic strip. These people aren’t perfect any more than you or I. And for those who won’t acknowledge it, I can guarantee that age and experience with makeup application doesn’t matter. This can (and usual does) happen to any woman at any age when they’re preoccupied, which is what I get from Luann. Cut her some slack. You, too, Bernice.
Oh, well. Luann and I both did something stupid today. She did the above, and I stepped on what I thought was damp mud and sank almost hip deep. I had to be rescued by a bystander.
Age and experience don’t always guarantee that an accident won’t happen. I was 35 or a little older when I decided to glam up my normally short nails (for nursing school) with some artificial nails. They weren’t very long; just enough to look more dressy than usual. I then proceeded to put in my contact lenses, and managed to poke my eye because I wasn’t used to that nail length. So hubby and I had a lovely night out with our friends, with my lovely new nails and my bloodshot eye! (I did go to the doctor and got antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eyedrops). No more artificial nails for me!

Make-up used to be lead based. Women used to wear corsets so tight they could barely breath. Women in China used to bind their feet to keep them tiny.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

1. What the heck did Luann use for a face scrub, a block of rough cement with jagged bits of glass sticking out?!
2. Was she driving if she poked her eye with the mascara wand that hard?
3. This is one of those moments where it pays to have naturally curling hair.
