Now things are getting interesting! Bernice is gonna freak out when Luann tells her she met a guy named Piro, with a star shaved on his head. lol Any chance Crystal and Knute are taking that class too?? =)

Is it possible Luann will now start dating Piro …to help her with her ‘research’??

And suddenly, we’re back in grade school.

If I recall, that is Piro. The hobo-like character from the dormitories over whom Bernice was once infatuated years ago.

Well, well, well. The late great Piro makes a surprise appearance. As I recall Bernice had the major crush on him, to the point she was willing to violate dorm rules while acting as RA! The could complicate life for Luann and Bernice in their roles as both BFF’s AND housemates!

Piro! This is getting to be old time week. Who’s next Viper and Sun?

Prediction: Ms Horner is the author who Nancy and Bern will go see. What would be interesting is if Tara and Luann invite Piro to go to the reading with them and then Bern and Luann will start fighting over Piro ala Tiff and Luann concerning Aaron Hill back in the ’90s.

Well do i feel we be seeing a lot more from Piro and crew.

Luann & Piro doesn’t sound like a good match personally – but yes – maybe good material to write about. I don’t think Lu has experienced somebody like Piro (maybe Nil). And yes, it will hit the fan when Bern finds out.

Piro appears again. It has been so long since we have seen him.

Piro is back! I’d been hoping for a long time for him to return, but connected to Bernice and her psychology studies, not Luann in a writing class. What happened to him? Why he dropped out of college to go to the community college? Maybe Luann will ask him questions that will explain everything, maybe she won’t even remember that Bernice had a huge crush on him. I like this story!

Ms. Horner used this technique in the game room at the senior center when there were too many many old folks and not enough toilet spaces.

Actually, I thought it was clever to have them interview someone they didn’t know.

Mrs. Horner technique of ask two questions reminds me of Baba WaWa’s interview technique, “If you were a tree what kind of tree would you be?”

How does this help in memoir writing?

Well, they both blew their first question… Although if only needing to write 500 words they might be able to get a couple hundred just from that.

Depressing Luann isn’t going into the sciences. Greg’s daughter, Karen, should be pushing the party line.

I don’t see Luann with Piro, but he might be a good match for Tara. Either way it will get interesting, especially if Bernice gets involved. She could have a diamond shaved into the side of her head to impress him! It is too bad he still looks like he crawled out of a dumpster. Maybe this is what the romance books were for?

Geez Luann, can’t you stay focused on school for even one minute? You could have performed the verbal assignment while you figured out where you know the guy from. But to answer your question, you (1) feel that you know Piro because he is your true life soulmate and your heart recognizes him on a spiritual and cosmic level, or (2) because your best friend talked about him and described him to you for MONTHS. Seriously, are we are supposed to believe that Bernice never told Luann about Piro, or showed her his picture?

This is a pleasant surprise. I don’t get how many comments are trying to pair Luann with Piro, or not. It’s a writing class! She might not remember him as she is at Pitts and he went to Mooney U. Although Bern talked about him a lot. As for Bernice being jealous, she seems taken with Nil, but still dealing with her feelings. Cart before horse.

I like Mrs. Horner’s choice of music and her method of mixing up partners. Maybe the next question is from Tara to another surprise student!? =;-o

Everyone is interesting once you get to know him or her.

Some are scary interesting, some are admirable interesting, some are pitiable interesting, and some are interesting about how boring they managed to be (like me, for instance).

Luann and Piro have never met face to face. She has had several conversations with Bernice about Piro so she may have heard him described, “spiked hair, shaved star,” thus her comment in panel 4.

“Luann en espanol” is currently at the Piro era of the strip. It features Bernice and Piro today, when she was planning a film night in hopes of spending time alone with him. (My Spanish is not very good—I just read it as an exercise to see how much I can understand. It helps to have read the strips in English previously.)

Mrs. Horner is a brilliant teacher! She recognizes that a face-to-face class is where real education occurs, and she knows how to engage her students with an active participation exercise like this!

Piro returns!!!!!!! This unexpected occurrence now has me very interested in this arc. I never expected Greg to ever bring Piro back since it has been so long. I am glad he did.

Lots of fun possibilities:

1. If Luann starts to have romantic feelings for Piro…. that could be interesting in terms of a) how Bernice may react (and how Nil also would react), b) how Nancy and Frank would react (it is likely that in a first meeting, especially if it is brief, the DeGroot parents might worry that Piro is a “bad boy” type), and c) how Tara would react (I cannot recall if Tara met Piro before or not).

2. I doubt there is any way in h*ll that either Piro nor Mrs. Horner is Coverly, the romance author…. but…. with the murky/hazy background we know of Piro…. in some fashion he seems like a kid from a “rich” family who is kind of slumming around all over the place (not using parental funds) sleeping on friend’s couches, etc. So, perhaps Piro is related in some fashion to Coverly, the author…. that would be an interesting twist.

3. Piro was originally seen associated with Moony U. Now he is at Pitt CC. What may the backstory be about that? Is it that he simply thought the Pitt course would be fun? Is it that he chose to leave (or flunked out of?) Moony U? Or is he regularly taking classes at both campuses…. for some reason?

4. If ultimately Luann kisses Piro…. will she have a bland “non-reaction” like Bernice…. or will she feel significant passion towards ol’ star head?

Piro? what a person to pose, per patented GnK misdirection play surprise, to talk about romance (and implied sex) with a handsome, distinctive, mysterious and individualistic MAN personified. Of course, this will, or should develop into more, Luann might turn weak being around him, Bernice will lose her mind, one would think, and Tara? Not only cute, smart, individualistic who might be very, very attracted to Piro, who because of their similarities, might be attracted to her. Either way, the romance may fly. And with Mrs. Horner stirring the romantic pot. Been watching KDrama GnK? I’ve become addicted and this so fits.

Meh… I don’t really see Berniece having much of any kind of reaction to the Piro is in my creative writing class news other than Hey what a coincidence! After totally obsessing about him forever Berniece realized they had zero chemistry once he kissed her. And currently she seems just as obsessed and focused on Jack as she once was Piro!!! And I can’t see Luann dating this guy. He’s nothing like her type. But stranger things have happened so ya never know. But I am glad to see him back!!!!! A very mysterious character for sure.

So I guess Piro dropped out of Mooney U and is now taking classes at the community college??!!
