I just posted this on Thursday’s thread. Quoting myself, “Opa! We have guests!”, tells us a lot about these opossums. Guests, not intruders, not enemies…..
Ah, wouldn’t it be wonderful if our human society could follow the opossum society belief: “We believe there is room for ALL …” This won’t happen in my lifetime but I sincerely hope it will be so for future generations.
In a true war between the raccoons and possums, the possums would just introduce rabies into the raccoon population and wait. Animals have no Geneva Convention.
The first rule of world-building, build in little idiosyncrasies. When you are doing deep world-building (i.e., Lord Of The Rings, Wheel Of Time, etc.), then you are designing everything from a language to world-specific holidays and caste system for your characters. I’m in awe of those writers.
Georgia’s world-building is doubly hard because, in addition to designing the world, she has to draw it so we can see the vision.
Perhaps ohumans were the oones who eliminated the extra ovowel from onouns. We would not have wanted to be linked to opossums and their famous fierce oteeth.
So with opossums everything starting with a P has an O in front of it? That… makes a weird sense to me…Also, I have loved this little story with the racoons and opossums. The opossums look particularly cute as they’re drawn. I’m always left slightly breathless by drawings by Georgia that takes place at night, it’s such stunning scenery!
Enemies become friends! While this is a sweet story, it does make me think the raccoons might have been the aggressors in the war against the opeaceful opoets.

One word to sum up the situation: detente! Perhaps Mag and Pericles will hatch a plan to bring back order from the chaos caused by Montague mole!

oPportunity to gain excellent allies in the dispute with the moles lies before Queen Mag. I say dispute because it has not yet burgeoned into war.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
At the Artisans’ Studio
Obadiah Opossum: My, this is a lovely studio. How do you manage to supply it?
Maat-Tilda: Oh, ways and means. If you need something, and you hear giggling, you know you’ll have it soon enough.
Obie: And do you have gemstones?
Sophititi: We always have plenty of gold and gems. Our ancestors seemed to always have a store of them near the real treasures, the scrolls.
Obie: I love working with oPals and oPearls.
Adobe Style: We have plenty of them. And the crystal gemstones are practically indestructible, thanks to our elven friend, Fe-Anaro.
Obie: I would love to create artwork. Could I possibly use your studio?
Tillie: Of course. The more the merrier. And if you’re in Afar, we have a lovely studio there.
Obie: How do you get to Afar?
Adobe Style: Kara and Vann can get you there, no problem. Just take the oPun road.

So in reference to yesterdays strip, since they add o to everything beginning with a p, opa is actually “pa”. It took a while for me to get that.

Time Has come
To bury the hatchet
See that anger
Is wasted breath
Admit wrong
See the hurt caused
Time Lost
Lives Lost
Through Anger
Bitterness
Ruins the taste buds
Disables families
Damages Reputations
Causes disruption
Creates white lies
Just who is to blame
In this blame game
Accept your errors
Learn from the pain
We, Me, You and Them
Have all been wrong
Anger has hurt
Killed, savaged and abused
It has taken its toll
Nothing Good
Comes from Anger

That’s precisely the stance the moles are NOT favoring though—they want the land they’re seizing for THEM and ONLY them, not for ALL.
But then again, all turf wars can be boiled down to precisely that in the end.
