I just posted this on Thursday’s thread. Quoting myself, “Opa! We have guests!”, tells us a lot about these opossums. Guests, not intruders, not enemies…..

One word to sum up the situation: detente! Perhaps Mag and Pericles will hatch a plan to bring back order from the chaos caused by Montague mole!

So in reference to yesterdays strip, since they add o to everything beginning with a p, opa is actually “pa”. It took a while for me to get that.

The first rule of world-building, build in little idiosyncrasies. When you are doing deep world-building (i.e., Lord Of The Rings, Wheel Of Time, etc.), then you are designing everything from a language to world-specific holidays and caste system for your characters. I’m in awe of those writers.

Georgia’s world-building is doubly hard because, in addition to designing the world, she has to draw it so we can see the vision.

I had a feeling there would be mutual accord.

Perhaps ohumans were the oones who eliminated the extra ovowel from onouns. We would not have wanted to be linked to opossums and their famous fierce oteeth.

Possums, peaceful poets and philosophers? I take it Ms. Dunn has never met a real possum.

More should think like Opa. There’s room for all.

So with opossums everything starting with a P has an O in front of it? That… makes a weird sense to me…Also, I have loved this little story with the racoons and opossums. The opossums look particularly cute as they’re drawn. I’m always left slightly breathless by drawings by Georgia that takes place at night, it’s such stunning scenery!

Enemies become friends! While this is a sweet story, it does make me think the raccoons might have been the aggressors in the war against the opeaceful opoets.
