Slightly off-topic : do cats know revenge? one of our neighbors hate cats and she once hit a cat who napped beside her apartment door, then the cat came again and pooped beside her apartment door, my mother joked she pooped beside your apartment door because she or he (the cat) knew you hate cats.

For folks not loving a strip touching on the real world—I’m here in the comments VERY early to promise: This is the one and only strip attempting to explain our news cycle through the cats’ eyes. I had to give -some context for the rest of the strips this week to mean anything, without spinning out into full-on actual People-politics.

I tried to keep it as funny as possible given the incredibly grim subject matter, and I stuck to folks outside of the three branches of our political system.

The tech billionaires are not part of our government.

There have been no elections for the tech billionaires. They just seem to be there? Constantly? Just… techin’ it up? Having the cats focus on them in confusion felt like the direction to take, if I wanted to try and have the cats present their usual slice of “…what is this?”

Though I did briefly consider a panel of Teddy Roosevelt suplexing one of the tech billionaires through a press table, but alas, space did not allow!

A Little Known Song From Burt Bacharach’s Movie Lost Horizon: Reflections

When you make your voice heard

Do you know what to say?

If you know what to say

    There’s no need for dismay!

    …….

’Cause your reflection reflects in what you do and say

And what you do and say

    Is your right every day!

    …….

When you speak to your friends

    Do you listen as well?

    If you listen as well

You have every right to tell!

    …….

’Cause your reflection reflects in what you do and say

And what you do and say

    Is your right every day!

    …….

    Speaking up for someone else

    Isn’t just for someone else

It does twice as much for you

    As what you keep

    To yourself!

    …….

When you lay down to sleep

Do you like all your dreams?

Don’t just keep them as dreams

Make them all heard and seen!

    …….

’Cause your reflection reflects in what you do and say

And what you do and say

    Is your right every day!

To Georgia and all the Orb Friends: Make your voice heard!

I don’t mind a bit of politics. It is disturbing how people who have more money than they coukd spend in a lifetime don’t feel it’s enough. Then they want to take from people who have so little to get more wealth theough more and bigger tax cuts. It’s immoral.

I will only add that health care is a fundamental human right. As my old Jesuit philosophy Professor said, “When you have the ability to cure or repair a human being so that they can return to a full life, it is a Positive Good*.”

For those of you who didn’t sit through Fr. Vitalli’s class, a Positive Good essentially means actively seeking to promote good and positive outcomes, often associated with ethical frameworks like utilitarianism that aim to maximize happiness and benefit for the most significant number of people. In simpler words, cure the person so they can return to work and continue to contribute to society.

If it weren’t for The Affordable Care Act and Obama Care, my family would have been bankrupt several times over and would be unable to get health insurance. Now, that lifeline is in danger because the elected government and their billionaire donors think of us as parasites.

Musk’s Tesla, Neuralink, SpaceX, and Starlink are all funded through US government contracts. It’s not just a matter of financial gain for him; it’s that he’s in a position of overseeing agencies that regulate his own businesses. It’s akin to the old saying, ‘like making the arsonist the fire chief’—except he’s also the head of HR, head of accounting, and being awarded contracts for accelerants. This paints a concerning picture of potential conflicts of interest. I fact checked this first before adding this comment.

Real life example of real harms being done: My company does work under a branch of the Environmental Protection Agency. Work mandated by Congress through laws that already said these tasks were necessary to protect the health, safety, and happiness of us, the citizens.

Our field is a target in the big red handbook for destroying America. Every Friday we wait for the email saying we’re done.

We work closely with federal employees: reviewers who make sure buildings and bridges are designed safely, the people in charge of making sure our land and water is clean, and preserving the things and places that Americans love. We work with small towns helping them with the process to build a safe bridge or redesign a dangerous intersection because the projects are funded by Federal dollars. Those projects are all in jeopardy now, some funding is already on hold. 1,000s of construction workers possibly idled.

I want to stress I work “WITH” Federal employees. These are people working long hard hours, often more than they get paid for, doing necessary jobs that affect real people and places and oversee companies like mine, to be sure contractors aren’t taking advantage. The Fed employees are the checks to detect private fraud. Right now, I couldn’t scam anything if I tried. Think about that for a minute?

No fed employee is sitting twiddling their thumbs. If they did, they would out, because the jobs are real work that needs to be done and people notice and problems happen when it’s not. I have seen the chaos and non-performers get the boot.

When the Federal agency I report to is gutted, my company, with a 25 year track record of excellent work for bargain prices (it’s my tax dollars too) is out of business, and my employees are on the street collecting unemployment. And the students we were hiring this summer won’t get the good paying jobs they need and studied so hard for.

Just saying, unemployment is the ultimate definition of government paying people to do nothing.

Georgia, without realizing it, you did create a left leaning cartoon today. I love your work, but I come here to get away from the people politics. Your premise seems to be that using billionaires to get things done is a bad thing. But billionaires are billionaires because they do get things done. Please no more political cartoons. No matter who they favor, you will upset half of your fans. By driving some right leaning fans away, you have made your fan based a little more leftist. Sending you love from a right leaning fan.

I absolutely do not understand people who say they will leave and never come back because they disagree with one single day’s comic out of close to 3000? I don’t have the exact number because some of them are for repeats. Today is number 3183 in the spreadsheet that the late Bill Jackson started and I’ve continued. Let’s just say close to 3000 comics you’ve liked on one side of the scale and 1 you didn’t like on the on the other?

""The rich get richer and the poor get children" is a phrase that cynically highlights the growing economic inequality, suggesting that wealth tends to accumulate among the already wealthy while those in poverty often have larger families due to limited opportunities and resources."And even worse now, the poor or geographically challenged get babies whether they want them or not. At one time “women and children first” was a courtesy. Now they’re a target.

I’m baffled as to why the minute someone mentions prices, healthcare, the environment, housing (thank you Pucky), everyone jumps on it, shouting “she got all political!! I’m quitting reading the strip!” People, these are things we deal with everyday. Please don’t get your knickers in a knot. These things are quality of life issues for everyone, and ignoring them or crying “foul” will not make them go away. Nor will it solve anything. If we can’t be kind and less judgmental towards each other, then we are all heading down a very unhealthy path. I’m comforted by the fact that the BCN crew has sensed this disturbance in the Force.

A Special Update from our suburb! I check under the porch every morning before we let our cats out (they have Invisible Fence collars) to make sure no stray cats or raccoons are denning there. We have medium-sized lots; our next-door neighbors’ property lines are 2 feet away from one side and maybe 25-30 feet on the other away from the house, so not Chicago-bungalow-crowded, but not multiple-acres.

Anyway, yesterday there was a cat lurking under the porch. He saw me coming down the ladder from the trapdoor and oozed out the other side of the porch. Big brindled fellow with a very floofy tail.

Today he was there again — so I went quickly up the ladder and walked fairly silently to peer over the railing on that side of the porch, and saw him coming out.

And he was not a cat. He was a FOX.

I’ve been a bit nervous about letting our guys outside, but they insist (slipping out when I open a door), and we’ll check on them more often than every hour. They’ve also got lots of places they can be UP, and probably (hopefully?) out of reach of a hungry fox. Wonder if we ought to call Animal Control — don’t want any harm to come to him(her?), but really don’t want a fox denning under our porch or woodrick.

Georgia, I will admit that I was dismayed to read today’s strip. I’m glad it won’t be a recurring theme.

We are drowning in this madness, and BCN is a treasured oasis of laughter and adventure.

At night I often spend too much time scrolling through the archives, re-reading beloved story lines and the hilarious situations the cats find themselves in, and their solutions. You create a wonderful hideaway for us to visit in these kitties’ world. Conflicts are resolved with humor, empathy, and kindness. I can’t count how many times I’ve been moved to tears by your stories and art. Words are inadequate to convey how much I appreciate the strips you give us. They are a precious respite from everyday reality.

Thank you, thank you for all you do for us.
