Why does miss birdbrain assume Tiff was “kicked off the team?” (I think Tiff was, but still.) High school was a couple of years ago, even in Luannverse time. Does Steffi-bird think Tiff should be going back to cheer at her old high school when she’s a sophomore in college?
So many commenters leaping to the same conclusions and they accuse Stefani of doing just that. Tiffany was kicked off and may have told that to Stefani – and Evans just didn’t show that caption – but even Kip confirmed it and he may have heard it from Tiffany and not accepting what Stefani said if she jumped to a conclusion (like so many of the readers). I can see the same type of scenario playing out here as it did with Bets. Another situation where everyone jumped to conclusions about Bets and it was just the opposite of what those readers thought.
Actually stephani hit it on the head, tiffany was kicked off the team. But it was her own fault. If she hadn’t tried to blackmail Luann with cellphone video of her in her undies, she wouldn’t have been kicked off the squad and suspended for a month.
Stef resided in another building, right? So I don’t imagine that she KNEW of all the WILD goings on in Kip’s room.
So before Kip Leaves her, why don’t you LOUDLY ask him:
“Hey Kip! What time is X-Charades, Bras and Boxers Poker, and Slurp ‘N Flirt Nite In-Your-Room? Hair said you wanted to meet Me and I’m just dying to show you my New Chemise!”

And why can’t these characters actually swear? Nobody in college would use a childish made-up phrase like ‘Ohmygaw’. I think comics allow “Oh, my God” these days.

I’ve noticed that the feedback forums vary widely in character.
There are some that are all sweetness and light, nearly every reader enthralled by the characters and storyline.
Some are analytical, trying to examine the process involved in the creation of the strip.
Some focus on ideas presented and can become debates on everything from psychology to philosophy to politics.
At least one seems to be almost entirely composed of snark, or aspires to that. In fact, posters there will scrounge for snarkable scraps even on days when the strip offers none.
Of course, most combine these elements and lots of others. But most also tilt toward one or another of the many approaches.
This one. THIS one. So fiercely serious, as if all the characters are in some sense real people. Some characters loved, some hated, and some loved and hated by different commenters who argue in defense of or in attack on the same… um… person. There’s also the archaeological excavation of years old strips to PROVE that this or that is now and ever shall be true about this or that person. Bernice is evil! No, Luann is!
The closest thing I’ve ever seen to it was in the heyday of Soap Opera TV when people spoke of the events in their stories as if they were real. I even recall people praying for sick “characters” to get well.
I guess some of the dead serious arguments about superheroes comes close. Who could beat who in a fight?
All of that leads to this question… Does anyone know of another strip on GoComics that excites the same level of passionate involvement as “Luann” seems to? If so, I wanna check it out.
These two have got to go. Tiffany is not out of shape, don’t need to call her out of shape she is just fine the way she is and does Kip have any other facial animations, he seems to be stuck.
Kinda surprised that fans of the strip don’t see what’s been going on in the Tiffany thread for a few years now.
Everything she thought was important or true in life is being stripped from her. And she is forced to readjust.
The thing is she doesn’t realize how far she’s come. She’s more independent than ever. She’s more self reliant than ever. And she won’t allow herself to lose.
Steffani is a mirror to her past life. Sharing a room with her gives her the unique opportunity to see how much she’s grown and how ridiculous she once was.
I hope Tiffany passes this final exam. It would mean she’s more ready for life than luann or Bernice or many others in the strip.
Maybe she’ll get Tiffany back into cheerleading. It is not a career, but it is a great workout, and some exercise and comaraderie isn’t really so bad for you. Get those endorphins going again.
Stefani seems a very spontaneous girl, a bit naive and unable to understand that what she says can offend. But she also seems to have a heart of gold and be serious about consoling Tiffany (and Kip must have, more or less, the same character as her). We have to see it, but for now she looks like a non-evil version of old Tiffany.
After seeing more of Steffi-Bird I think the _jury is still out on whether she is genuinely empty headed or snidely projecting a role. Either way Tiff might just give her a run for her money with QT Kip.
I find this funny, especially the closing smoosh. Stef pose and expression in panel one is very well crafted. It’s the kind of daily strip that someone could jump in and enjoy while knowing nothing about the Luann cast and history. This is how you hook new readers.
Oh Good Grief! Can I hate her now? Cause she is turning out exactly as I feared! So is Kip. Trust me, Tiff, he isn’t worth your time. And to those of you who said Kip would be changing buildings forget it. These two are peas in a pod. I really hope this is a lesson in self reflection for Tiffany. A lesson she learns quickly and moves on.
People in this strip don’t tend to get roommates who are just random amusement. Stef must be another rung in the ladder of Tiffany’s character growth. What will she learn from this well meaning skinny waist cheerleader?
Stefani is drawn as an prepossessing, dominating self-absorbed version of Tiffany on steroids. She assumes negative things about Tiffany, makes hurtful comment about her, grabs physically Tiffany so hard that Tiffany is apparently having trouble breathing, which is a sign of her controlling personality, and appoints herself as kind of a life coach for Tiffany. Kip is kind of ambivalent to me, he is in Steffi’s aura, and her mentality of belonging to a team as an important part of his personality. Maybe this is a sign that Tiffany needs to both become independent, stronger personally, and follow a team that has her interest in mind, the old high school friends, and a few new friends like Bets or Dez that she has encountered. Ah the start of yet another arc!
I must assume that these two temporary cast members, are just plain folks who have found bliss in their mutual simplicity. Steph will be Tiff’s new inspiration as she pursues her degree in donut shop management.
I think I may take a break from the comments here. It is a comic and I am getting WAY to invested. I will keep reading to keep up with the story, but I need a break. Hmmm…. interesting….. but first a question or two before my “opinions” on the goings on:
1. So…. since somehow I either missed or just do not remember…. DID Tiffany have some issue with the Cheer Leading Team back in high school? My presumption was that she was a cheerleader all through high school. If that was not the case, then somehow I missed the arc or it just didn’t register with me.
2. In regards to Kip’s jacket…. wouldn’t it be most likely that the sleeves should be gold in color? I am not sure what the grey suggests… it just seems that Moony University colors are apparently maroon and gold…. so why the grey sleeves. Perhaps Sheriff was given instructions to make the sleeves grey… he has been about today, so perhaps he will see this and respond.

Opinions:
a. I am finding Stephani to be an odd mix of super-saccharine personality and an almost antebellum Southern style in her demeanor…. which in many ways seems atypical for a (presumably) Southern Californian Cheer Leader type.
While technically I cannot find a huge amount of fault with the character….. my gut reaction is to dislike her.
c. Kip seemed more reasonably intelligent and thoughtful yesterday and before….. today the “vibe” I am getting is “doofus”.
d. It is unfortunate that Tiffany is again in a difficult situation. It was nice seeing her have fun with Hair and Viper.
I think the rest of the week will be fleshing out the character. More mannerisms if not her real motivations/foibles. Remember that Bets got to the “we’re a couple” stage before her social media came to fruition.
From panel 3 it appears the two will begin to work things out sans Kip the QT. :o)
Looking at that last panel, it almost seems the way Stef if gripping Tiff’s sweater, it could be serving as a disguised version of “Keep your hands off my guy”. The grip looks like when someone walks up to someone else, grabs their shirt in the same manner, and threatens them. It might be the case, but she could be making it look to Kip like she is feeling sorry for Tiff and giving her a “special hug”.

If nothing else, that death grip she has on Tiff’s head might break down that blonde helmet and give Tiff a long – needed break from her old hair style. “Look, Skeeter, it ain’t shaped like a helmet no more…”

In the days of old, there were men that thought that if their long hair was cut, they would lose their strength. In Tiff’s case, perhaps her ‘helmet hair’ was holding her back, and now that the helmet has been broken, she can break free of her life as it was, and start to excel and become who she aspires to be.
Ah, the beautiful but arrogant airhead of a cheerleader. We all wanted to think the gorgeous cheerleaders and handsome popular quarterbacks were dumber than bricks because it made us feel better. However, I knew a girl that was the head cheerleader and super popular, got the Ford Mustang for graduation; you know, the whole stereotype. Unfortunately, she was also a standout student and honor graduate. Her only failure was marrying a handsome successful lawyer when she could of had me :-)
To Pipe Tobacco: Greg sent a guideline for the cheerleader’s colors and for Kip’s jacket 2 months ago, which tells you how far ahead they work. Yeah, the sleeve is light gray as spec’d.
I see there’s a continuity error in panel 1. Her name is supposed to be Stefani Bird, yet her first name on the box Kip is carrying is spelled S-t-e-p-h.

Tiffany has gotten much larger in the 14 years since she got kicked off the cheerleading squad when she was in high school, no more than 6 years ago!

I think the rest of the week will be fleshing out the character. More mannerisms if not her real motivations/foibles. Remember that Bets got to the “we’re a couple” stage before her social media came to fruition.
From panel 3 it appears the two will begin to work things out sans Kip the QT. :o)

Looking at that last panel, it almost seems the way Stef if gripping Tiff’s sweater, it could be serving as a disguised version of “Keep your hands off my guy”. The grip looks like when someone walks up to someone else, grabs their shirt in the same manner, and threatens them. It might be the case, but she could be making it look to Kip like she is feeling sorry for Tiff and giving her a “special hug”.

If nothing else, that death grip she has on Tiff’s head might break down that blonde helmet and give Tiff a long – needed break from her old hair style. “Look, Skeeter, it ain’t shaped like a helmet no more…”

In the days of old, there were men that thought that if their long hair was cut, they would lose their strength. In Tiff’s case, perhaps her ‘helmet hair’ was holding her back, and now that the helmet has been broken, she can break free of her life as it was, and start to excel and become who she aspires to be.

Ah, the beautiful but arrogant airhead of a cheerleader. We all wanted to think the gorgeous cheerleaders and handsome popular quarterbacks were dumber than bricks because it made us feel better. However, I knew a girl that was the head cheerleader and super popular, got the Ford Mustang for graduation; you know, the whole stereotype. Unfortunately, she was also a standout student and honor graduate. Her only failure was marrying a handsome successful lawyer when she could of had me :-)

To Pipe Tobacco: Greg sent a guideline for the cheerleader’s colors and for Kip’s jacket 2 months ago, which tells you how far ahead they work. Yeah, the sleeve is light gray as spec’d.

I see there’s a continuity error in panel 1. Her name is supposed to be Stefani Bird, yet her first name on the box Kip is carrying is spelled S-t-e-p-h.
