I’m not so sure Gunther will ever dump Bets. Despite her flaws, he seems quite besotted by her. I think it’ll be Bets who dumps him. He will get boring eventually.

That’s quite a cat-in-the-cream smile on Gunther’s face in the last panel! Yesterday, too. Bets sure knows how to make him happy! She’s not perfect, but that’s the beauty of good characterization, for real people are never perfect, either, but they can be perfect for one special person. Maybe her obsessive flashiness is just what the shy boy needs—and maybe his reticence will anchor her.

All right Greg, we get it. Bernice sucks. Since she’s never going to get any positive character development, what the point of reminding us of her awfulness over and over and over again?

No Bernice is jealous while Bets is putting the moves on her Gunny.

I just said that Bets likes to be cozy. And now she’s turned it up a bit. Well, they’re still upright, so there’s hope. This could also go volcano very quickly.

I just have not been able to warm up to Bets. In her own way she is just as shallow as Tiffany’s new roomie, Stefani Bird.

Bet is net faulting. Why does she feel the need to diss another woman when clearly she’s presuming against a friend of Gunthers?Immature and glommy.

Bets, arrogant much? Not everything is about YOU.

Some people aren’t comfortable being around couples performing PDA, especially in a place where one needs to concentrate on their studies.

If you really care for ‘Gunny’, you might want to tone it down a bit when meeting his friends for the first time.

Both Bets and Bernice, in their own ways, are very controlling types of people…

Just go over to the table, rake any stuff off it, and get “studying”.

I believe that Gunther has an ulterior motive for being at the Study Ball.

Remember that Bernice admitted that she has seen " Bets N Gun" social media and that Gunther confronted Luann about being a busybody.Gunther has reached a higher level with his antics designed to drive Bernice batty

Tiffany is deciding on becoming Study Nerd and beat Ann Eiffel. Or accept the challenge from Stefanie/Kip scenario and outwit & outplay the Hall A gang. I bet that Stefanie will regret calling Tiffany a " nerd".

Bernice is a regular killjoy, but that’s not something we didn’t know.

Good thing Gunny like si-fi, because he’s found himself a real “cling-on”. haha

Hmm… Perhaps Bernice is going to finally confront some personal character issues in this arc and hopefully grow as a result.

Bernice is very controlling. She can’t stand when others don’t comply with what she feels is best.

Gunther looks so happy studying together with Bets. They’re adorable ♡, too much. At least for Bernice and her serious idea about study (no, i don’t think she’s jealous). Too much chemistry, anatomy, biology. I still hope for Piro to arrive ♡.

bern is getting really odd, we already kicked around how group study is weird but now she wants to dictate what position a person studies in?

Bets is the jealous one. Bernice knows Gunther well enough to know he and Bets have more differences than they have things in common. I hope allof this is leading up to Gunny dropping that psycho. But the longer it goes on the harder it will be for Gunther to get rid of her. Gunther is a nice guy, but Bets – she is just crazy!

Bets is up to no good. Something is going to happen and she will be the villain.

I’m beginning to realize that we’ve had it all wrong about what the Evans are doing to Gunther. He’s gonna go on a tear, before this strip ends. It may have already started. Rosa and Tiff are both “could’ves,” and Bets is looking like a certainty. Bern IS jealous, and remains a future possibility, and I need not repeat myself about the strip’s titular character being the ultimate end. It’s a new twist on “nice guys finish last.”

Well the Luann, Jack, Tara, Nil Pitts C.C. arc seems to be officially dead. Everything now revolves around Mooney Uni and its denizens.

I wonder if GnK are second guessing splitting up the characters at this point?

I can’t believe we’ve all been lured away from interest in Hall-A’s goings on. SQUIRREL!

Boy Bets and her relationship with Gunnie certainly brings out a lot of reaction, ranging from she is a sex oriented wastrel bad for Gunther, to a positive influence compensating for his shyness, helping to make him more confident, and actually happy! Although I admit I am more on the second example I think she is meant to be drawn in the middle both kind of distracting (she is the sexiest character drawn in the strip, Tiffany and Stefi not in the same league), but at the same time she is a nerd, who likes cosplay (new word for me), loves to study, is friendly—her offer to help Tiffany—but I also think she is very jealous and sensitive to women who have a repressed interest in Gunther, in her mind, and maybe for real. Luann wondering if they are doing “it” as is Bernice. In this arc there is a good chance that Bernice will experience the “defend my man, he is mine” syndrome I think she has. I think she has been suspicious of both Luann and now Bernice; how she is drawn to handle that feeling, and how Gunther reacts in the midst of it is the point of this arc I think. Is Tiffany going to show by the way?

Bernice is clearly jealous…and let’s not forget that Tiffany has a secret crush on Gunther. There’s a subtle message here that the “nerd,” “dweeb,” and “loser” of high school is in greater demand in the somewhat more intellectual environment of a university.

You study or you do foreplay in front of a bunch of mildly disgusted college kids who are trying to study. You decide. Stay or leave.

ya know what would have been funnier than Bernice’s spinsterish reactions, what if Tiffany had organized the “Study Ball” as a way to help herself focus and study, and was then confronted with this same Gunther and Bets thing. It could have brought out some real jealousy.

Give it up, Berniece!! Just ignore the love birds and help everyone else. What they are doing doesn’t involve you.

Where are her shoes? That’s a communal sofa – not your personal stinky foot sofa. And, where’s her phone that’s usually attached to her hand?

Bernice has been reduced to a supporting player at her own event.In fairness,this would tick off most people,2,)Tiffany will walk in,see Gunther&Bets—say “Oops,wrong room”—and walk out again.

Why go to study hall if you aren’t going to study. I think Bets is just showing off.

I will say that Bets’ top has turned to a ‘Nurse Chapel’ blue! … And I am LIKIN’ it! … And look at Gunther’s smile!! :)

Bernice’s rise in stock following Bets’ initial rudeness – has now been wiped out thanks to her Sister Mary ‘The Penquin’s attitude here. What’s next? Ruler, or hickory stick? …

I wonder what prompted this plot development. Bernice has never shown the slightest interest in Gunther, but now she’s at her primmest and censorious best. Can it be that she used to see in Gunny (great pet name) the same loveless, uptight nerd that she still is, and just can’t stand to see her old friend get somewhere with a girl? Interesting stuff in store.

Bernice is going to disrupt the entire study ball with her loud and constant efforts to separate Gunth and Bets. Then later she will whine and complain (probably to Luann) about how Bets and Gunth “ruined” the study ball with their “unacceptable” behavior.

(1) Gunther has achieved his goal by choosing to ignore Bernice.(2) Tiffany will arrive and change the direction of the story arc. (3) Tiffany might ask for assistance with microeconomics.(4) Bernice might flip her wig when she sees that Tiffany and Bets are friends.(5) or Tiffany might do something that Kip would not like.

Bernice is hoping to avoid getting PDA Stains on the Couch cushions.

I frankly don’t get where Berniece is coming from. Just ignore them. A Study Ball doesn’t need this kind of management! Just keep the music and snacks flowing and help anyone who asks for it. She either actually IS a bit jealous or she’s VERY uncomfortable with this level of PDA. Either way, she’s kind of getting in their business in an intrusive way.

That pose…it looks like Bernice has been watching The Price Is Right. But they never have anything that’s free.

While I am all for Bets & Gun as a couple… I think that Bets is NOT being particularly focused or sensitive to others by basically NOT being willing to study…. since that is what a “Study Ball” is designed for. To have it be just an avenue for Bets to give PDAs to Gunther seems kind of uncaring and unkind to me. Again, I have no problem with PDAs generally….. but this is kind of equivalent to having PDAS during a work meeting….. which is just rather rude and kind of tacky.

I would suggest Bets and Gunther should exit and have their PDAs in the hallway, or at the Union eatery, or at the “Blackout Party”….. or somewhere else where a task (studying) isn’t occurring.

Or, they could go home and have private moments too. And, whether or not it is an appropriate location PDA or a private moment…. they can share the spirit on social media if they wish.

Yes, they get along nicely.

Go away, Bernice! I’m sure Bets and Gunny have too much a sense of propriety to do it on the table….

Their current favorite subject is HS.

I think the entire concept of “out of character” should be tossed aside, though I’m afraid it won’t be. Leave it to his “friends” to put him back in his pigeon-hole. Shy guy who sews that couldn’t possibly be in a relationship and enjoy. It’s just his lot in life. Hurry, Bernice! SAVE HIM!
