I guess that’s it for Mrs Horner, and she’s just going to return to her own dark little corner of the universe for the next 10 or 20 years.

I fear a huge fight is here to come. Bernice’s constant changes in her ideas and her emotions may have finally annoyed Nil. Who shyly points that out to her. They need a private place! A place where live together!! And Bernice needs to clear her mind about this whole situation and what she wants to do. After that, I hope Mrs Horner will be still around for give them some advices.

There is a real need for a change in venue here, but Bern isn’t seeing it. Nil is okay, either way I think, but Bern has so many hangups.

Bernice wants a more steady relationship with Nil but doesn’t have the confidence to suggest it emotionally or sexually. So she goes to public places to make out “secretly” when there are plenty of more private places, but that would mean, to her, going on a real date and the progression of the relationship. Asking to go to Nil’s would suggest she wants more than kissing and she’s not ready for that either.

Bottom line, they are just at the point where they need the discussion of where it’s all going and if they want to risk having a broken heart.

What a stupid remark from Nil. Like Bernice would agree to using their physical romance to make a public statement. She isn’t quite that much of an exhibitionist, and she values her privacy. Just because they were meeting at the park is no reason for him to assume she would like to be a town sideshow. I’m sure for the right price he can find a willing hooker, if that’s whats important to him.

Bernice pick the Park because the fear of being caught? Or she is an closet exhibitionist? Or hoping that she will avoid the fate of becoming a parent?

I did not care for the character originally (and the one-eye STILL tends to creep me out a bit), but he and Jack have turned into the most honest and least complicated characters in the entire strip. Well, apart from Puddles.

First, if Bernice feels the need to keep this relationship secret, then she’s not ready for a relationship at all. Next, she’s a neurotic, total control freak who isn’t happy unless everyone around her is as miserable as she is. Lastly, Nil needs to de-complicate his life and dump her. She simply isn’t worth it.

I like the old lady. She should stay.

As information, Bernice was in NO WAY that uptight when it came to this Zane guy she once had the “Hots” for back high school.

Apparently, Bern is aspiring that which she fears the most, being alone and unloved.

It seems Bernice is choosing meeting places to limit their activity, which makes Nil question her feelings. They could have gone for a walk together hand in hand if she really cared and wanted to spend time with him.

Just because they went to the park (behind the bushes) doesn’t mean Bernice would want to lay out by the sidewalk and get it on for everybody to see. Nil made a really weird suggestion in my opinion. I thought he cared about her feelings. Even if Bernice had some exhibitionist tendencies (the idea of being “caught”), they are completely gone now, after she got a taste of what it feels like to be observed by strangers in what should be a very private moment. Nil, on the other hand, went into his weirdo artist mode and decided that making Bernice into a sideshow would be fun. She needs to dump him ASAP!

Bernice wants to give free reign to her passion without any danger that it will progress beyond kissing. She chooses a semi-public venue like behind the bushes in the park where getting caught kissing is embarrassing, but she also will not be tempted to have sex.

Still the same plot as last time we saw these two. Nil and Bernice make out in public and other people see them. Boring plot.

It’s private enough to explore the feelings she has while kissing and petting, but public enough to avoid having to go any farther. Maybe she doesn’t want to give you her virginity. If Bernice is never seen, heard from, or mentioned again after walking out of today’s strip I’ll be very happy.

I empathize with her hangup regarding public affection. At her age, I definitely preferred to be in as much privacy as possible for smooching. As I got older, I cared less and less about that, but that took time. I get how she feels. She doesn’t need to “get over it” (it’s not that easy!) but she would be happier if she could learn to relax a bit more. Baby steps. For now, hopefully we’re going to find out if she simply enjoys the kissing itself or if it is because of who she is kissing. Good luck, Nil!

Oh, Bernice. I think Bern didn’t stop when Nil warned her several times that someone was coming because she’s felt guilt about this arrangement the entire time but didn’t want to be the one to put a stop to it. Now that they’ve been spotted by someone, it’s become too risky and has to stop. They can’t go somewhere with actual privacy because Bern doesn’t trust herself not to take it farther than PDA. As much as she enjoys this, she’s been waiting for an opportunity to be “forced” to end it without having to address her feelings or speak candidly to Nil.

I pity the fool that gets stuck with her.

A little of him goes way more than a long way.

Nil has a lot more going on upstairs than Bernice realizes. She’ll be very lucky if he decides she’s worth the effort to crack her shell.

I kinda think that Nil deserves an answer to his question. The expression on his face seems kind of hurt. I don’t think he’s being sarcastic or snarky, I think that he just wants to talk it out.

This reminds me of watching the neighbour girl and her date sitting on her porch, making out for quite a long time under the streetlight’s glow. They were across the street from our house and it wasn’t easy to see any details. My window was the back one on the side of our house. I haven’t thought of that in years.

Hard to get naked there though.

I find it perfectly reasonable that Bernice doesn’t want to “perform” when she knows that at least 6 other people are watching! That’s quite different than hiding in the bushes hoping nobody sees them. (Which is kind of stupid, but not as stupid as Nil’s suggestion).
