I just noticed that Baba’s fang changes sides like Igor’s hump in Young Frankenstein. Is this a nod to a classic Mel Brooks movie, or is there another explanation that I’m missing?
What a wonderful scene. I have always loved when Angus has made an appearance on the strip either as a ghost cat or in a retro arc like last July’s Jules’ arc which also featured Baba Mouse and Magenta from 1991. What a great arc that was and this was is also awesome! The photos are a nice touch, reminds me of a strip over on Lay Lines this week which also is kind of a tear jerking blast from the past:
I literally started vibrating with excitement when I saw Angus in panels 3 and 4!!! I have loved his character and relationship with Baba ever since last year’s July flashback! Georgia just absolutely amazes me with her ability to turn the calendar’s spookiest holiday into a heartfelt tribute to relationships transcending the grave. Moved me to tears so easily!
Time for a broadcast from ROC: Radio Cat Oracle – -
(Three-note tone being heard over the radio – calling your attention to a special report)
Good evening Mr. & Mrs. Cat and the kittens in the world,
Flash; Baba Mouse has returned to her kitten-hood home to help local cats. Report from Angus, our local cat on the Scene.
Angus: Aye, a group of wee barin hae taken shelter fae ta storm. Aye ken report Baba Mouse ina among em. Aye dinna fash aboot em barin, Baba hae everything well in paw. This is her Da, Angus, signin off.
This has been a special report from Radio Cat Oracle, and now back to our regular programming.
I never seen Baba’s eyes open, but as a kittie, she has pretty green eyes. I’m sure it’s her in that pic, cause she has the same pink bow she wears around her neck now. So cute!!
(Happy music playing) A Daily dose of, Breaking Cat News, are for people who need a happiness boast, a smile, and a hardy laugh. (Happy music, still playing) WARNING- This comic contains pictures of kitty toe beans, that may cause squeees and possible swooning. DO NOT drink hot beverages while consuming this comic, as it is known to cause spewage on computer monitors. Also, computer monitors, laptop and cell phone screens, can become blurry. (Happy music playing louder) Breaking Cat News, happiness, on just one read a day!
When Mark Twain was in Hawaii, he wrote an elegant description of a plantation house. He described the verandah, the vista and the countless flowers. At the end, he adds that, in order to make the picture complete, you had to imagine a cat on every horizontal surface.
Obviously, I read other comics besides BCN. I browse the comments in some of them. What I can’t figure out is why some of the people who read the comics even bother. They seem to hate them. They complain about the story line, the art work, etc., etc., etc. I want to go onto the comments section and just yell at them: IF YOU DON’T ENJOY READING THE COMIC . . . . . . . . . DON’T! Just a thought for the day.

We arrived in Houston last night after several traffic delays. Today, it’s been rain and gloom all day, with some street flooding. Traffic is horrible and will be getting more so as game time approaches. So far a good trip except when we returned from a trip out for supplies. When we pulled into the hotel parking garage, we had to wait for a rude fellow to take his time closing his suv doors so we could fit into the space. Then when I got out of the car, he decided to be a parking cop and told me, “That’s a handicapped space”. My reply was, “Yes. It is. And we are. Handicaps aren’t always visible.” He finally noticed the handicapped hang tag, which is actually Partner’s—I’m not “official” because I choose not to be at this time. And most of the time, I don’t need to be. Can’t decide if I’m p.o.‘d because of this guy jumping on us or glad that he did, because I, too, get annoyed at people without tags using handicapped spaces. Guess it was just his tone of voice that annoyed me. Partner has headed off to his h.s. reunion tailgate/homecoming football game. I’ve set myself up with a Subway sandwich and chips, and other snacks, and will be watching Game 1 from the hotel. Fortunately Minutemaid Park has a roof—go ’Stros!
Kitten Baba looks very much like the smoky gray kitty I just got from the shelter. She wasn’t adjusting well and would not eat so the shelter contacted me to see if I would take her. I really wasn’t ready for another cat, the loss of Sarajevo on August 30th is still too fresh but the person who runs the shelter is an old friend and she did not think the kitty would survive for long. What could I do? She is certainly thriving in her new home. Hemi, who is 18-1/2 still rules the roost. Freyja, who is 5-1/2 isn’t sure what to make of her and Valkyrie (her new name) is just loving her new home. She is a bit wary of the other cats but she LOVES people. All people!

If this were a different kind of comic, Baba would die in her sleep only to be met by her beloved Angus.

Getting windy here in AZ, and it’s a bit chilly. Once I get under the covers tonight, I’ll know just how cozy Bea is in the middle of a storm.

Do we know who the cats in the other pictures on the mantle are? I’m trying to place them and not succeeding.

So, does Baba not see Angus then? I thought we decided that she probably could see the ghosts.

New Cat: Pleased to meet you. I’m Ignatius Shipwright, sailor of the Seven Seas. Call me Iggy.
Tortie: Hi, everyone! I’m the irrepressible Ora Zedd!
Beatrixia: Welcome to Ancient Egypt’s Very Good Pyramid. Right now I’m organizing the library, which needs a bit of TLC.
Iggy: Ooh. Do you have Paddle to the Nile? That was my favorite. It inspired me to go to the sea!
Bea: Right here. Elvis-Anum loves it too.
Ora: Do you have any books about The Pistachio Cracker?
Bea: Sure do.
Ora: I love the part where the Mouse King rescues the Four Mice from being trapped in the grain shed.
Bea: I know that story. The Four Mice went on to provide supplies for the whole realm during a famine.
Iggy: I heard that’s based on a true story.
Bea: I know whom to ask, but I’m not sure how they’ll answer.

Mem’ries,
Light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we? Could we?
Mem’ries, may be beautiful and yet
What’s too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it’s the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember…
The way we were…
The way we were…
