In the most recent Canadian general election in 2021, the Liberal party won 33.1% of the popular vote; the Conservative Party 34.3%. But the Liberal Party won 157 seats in Parliament compared to 121 seats for the Conservatives.
Have you not been paying attention to Canadian politics? Our democracy is probably in even worse shape than yours. And we donāt have the same safeguards in our Constitution that you doā¦not that that is helping you any, by the look of things.
actually, i find this funny partly because some of my fellow (but even much more privileged) liberals/progressives say things like, āIf the Orange Man wins, Iām moving to France!ā Donāt slam the door on the way out. What a a chickenāā thing to say :)
Canada here. Weāre all blowing south, really hard. Like Alberta, we have a rat-free border.
PS Thatās true. They have rat patrols along the border checking incoming farm machinery etc. You shoulda seen the action when a nest of rats infested a dump in southern Alberta a few years ago. They started with bulldozers and terriers. Locals were investigating what countries might sell them small nukes.
How about we let the bad politicians float away. Not to Canada. To somewhere over the middle of the Pacific. I hear thereās a lovely island of garbage there for them to live on.
Have a large sign that says Weather Balloon, so NORAD doesnāt shoot you down. Better yet, make the passenger basket look like Santaās sleigh. Theyād never shoot that down. (Hope I havenāt given China any ideas!)
Nothing lasts forever, including this good olā USA.
Empires: Rome, British, Mongol. Governments: Kings, dictators. They have all passed away. This Representative Democracy will also fade, eventually.
It started way back, when the poorer people realized they outnumbered the rich, and gathered together under political umbrellas to vote themselves bread and circuses, paid for by others. Of course, the leaders of those political parties rake off some of the cream for themselves. So they have a vested interest in continuing the charade.
Itās taken a while to get to this point, and we have a way to go, but we are inching in the direction of collapse. It wonāt be too soon, but it will come.
Itās The Grass Is Always Greener Syndrome. I left the U.S. more than decade ago and moved to Ecuador. I cringe at what has happened to the United States in the time since I left and am glad I moved when I did.
That said, we have our social and political problems here, just like everywhere else. Thereās no Utopia! You canāt run away from the world.
Forget Canadaā¦Iām looking at some prime real estate a little further. I hear the far side of the moon is nice this time of year. Certainly better then Mars, as its been said its not the kind of place to raise your kidsā¦
Sorryā¦ā¦Canada is still not as good as the USā¦ā¦Almost, but not yet. At the rate the US is going, Canada will surpass them soon, even with their on imbecile in charge.
FYI- Americans can live in Canada and/ or the United Kingdom for 6 months on a Visitorās visa. They can live for 3 months in the European Union as a visitor. This knowledge came in handy when I packed a suitcase in 2017, left the USA for 2 years, and just hopped around from country to country while I worked remotely.
USA is not a democracy (democracies almost always devolve into anarchy-Greece & Rome Empire). USA is a Constitutional Republic ( I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the REPUBLIC for which it standsā¦) A democracy is rule by a majority (a lynch mob wants to hang the person they caught, because they over-rule the minority [the lynchee]). A Constitutional Republic is rule by law ( the sheriff comes along and says āyou canāt hang him without a fair trial). This is a simplistic example of the difference between a democracy and a republic.
