Jonah thinks Toni and Brad will just put their lives on hold and watch Shannon for a whole month? NO WAY! They are firefighters and have their own lives, as well.

Jonah needs to look into hiring a nanny to look after Shannon for that long a period. He did say he was being paid good money.. so it’ll come in handy.

Stand up Brad, you know this is wrong. In the strip yesterday Jonah never looks at Shannon. Shannon deserves so much more than her farther is giving her.

I’m not even going to get into How exactly Shannon is Brad and Toni’s “problem.”

And I suspect that Aunt Luann, and new found “Aunt” Bernice will have their “turns” at babysitting also.

If the money is that great hire a nanny and take Shannon with you. Or better yet, get a job at McDonalds. I hear they discontinuing their ordering taking AI. Should be lots of room for a trained actor who can say “But you want fires with that?” with great feeling.

Shannon is not even broken up about dad being gone for a month. My guess is when he is home he’s too busy hunting for his next job to really interact with Shannon. She prefers living with aunt Toni and uncle Brad. She’s happy to see her dad but not thrilled to go home.

Toni and Brad? Becoming parents requires you to say one word—and often. Ready? It’s spelled N-O.

Why doesn’t Jonah take Shannon with him on location, like many actors do?

Oh, right. That would require him to have some maturity and a sense of responsibility. Never mind.

So glib. Just one month. Adhoc,with no long-term planning for any of the involved parties. That’s abusive. It has continued already far too long. I commented yesterday about what this family needs, but I neglected that it might need to begin with some sort of intervention. Bernice is not yet qualified or licensed, but perhaps one of her professors knows someone who may be called.

Does that bum contribute ANY $$$ for his kid’s care? And notice that Shannon isn’t the least bit upset that she won’t see her sperm donor for a whole month (or more). Of course, I’d say, “Good riddance!”, too!

In-laws always invoke the magic, holy word “family” when they want something. It is actually a curse meant to impart the feeling of guilt if they are denied. Solution: put as much distance and time away from their world as you can.

QUESTION: Where’s Shannon’s grandma? Deceased?

Three weeks into August, it will turn into “plus September too, sorry!” …. Do you think any of this “great money” will work its way to Brad and Toni for childcare expenses?

Three days left. Will Toni and Brad finally stand up to Jonah? Or will they have custody of Shannon again, like they have for like the past 30 Luann years?

Shannon is living the life.

Someday Jonah will come to pick Shannon up, and she’ll turn to Brad saying, “Bye, Daddy”. THAT’LL wake Jonah up (Brad, too – eek!)!

Jonah is a worthless, irresponsible parent. it’s no wonder Shannon is such a mess. She deserves better, but that does not implicitly mean that Brad and Toni should be forced to take on parental responsibilities without agreeing to that long-term contract.

I can’t blame Jonah too much, since Brad and Toni have absolutely given him the impression that this is okay.

Also, how long did they think six shoots in six locations would take? A month seems short.

Ok this is not about the strip, but any of you guys on iPhone getting that pop-up the block the entire screen and won’t go away it’s been happening for over a week. I’m about to read my comics somewhere else. It’s so frustrating.

It’s time for Toni and Brad to get official custody and then adopt Shannon. Jonah will never be a father.

I love that subtle look of expectation that Jonah has on his face in panel three. It reminds me of the look the cat gives me when he is expecting treats…

Toni is trying to make her brother understand that he’s asking too much while keeping calm. She’s admirable, but I’m glad Brad has no problem at being irritated with him. Probably the gig Jonah got in L.A. is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that could change his live, which is why I think the two of them will end up accepting looking after Shannon for a whole month. The only possible alternative is for TJ to decide to go to L.A. for look after Shannon.

It didn’t even feel like Jonah is asking. He’s assuming that they will do it.

I believe Ann Landers (remember her?) once counseled “Nobody can take advantage of you without your permission.” I’m not sure why Toni is so accommodating without hesitation? This may become a point of contention between the three adults. However, they’ll have to have this discussion when Shannon is out of earshot which is much easier said than done.

If you’d really love your kid, you’d say no and make a better offer that’ll allow you to spend more time with her!

Well, since it’s mid June, Jonah w can do his dad duties for a month and half. Hope Jonah has an apartment ’casue imagine living with Shannon in a motel room for that long?

Just adopt already. You’d get the tax credit and (maybe) gov stipend. Put an automatic garnishment on bro’s paycheck so he can think even less about his child.

Be patient, the denouement is coming.

As others have said – Toni and Brad should just adopt Shannon. She spends more time with them than with her so-called dad.

Jonah the flake is a USER ! Never once has he given anything in return. He only thinks of himself.

Jonah is the definition of “Freeloader”. He has never once offered to pay for her care… not once. Time he got the boot. I can see why her biological mother left.

There’s an unfortunate possibility — Jonah dies and Brad and Toni adopt Shannon out of family obligation (and love). This arc could be a distant lead-in.

Jonah is putting career over family. He abuses his sister’s love. He puts his needs above his daughter, who obviously adores him. Brad and Tony are professionals, too, in a much more hazardous occupation than acting, a fact he ignores for his own benefit. I suppose if one of them was hurt or killed in the line of duty, he would bemoan the loss of a free baby sitter more than anything.

Jonah does not even ask Toni to watch Shannon, she is volunteering. She must not mind it that much.

I fail to understand why a bunch of folks here think that it’s Brad and Toni’s duty to “step up” and adopt Shannon because Jonah is an irresponsible terd..

There’s always day-care and summer camps. It doesn’t have to be 24hr care.

I’m thinking/hoping that this is the arc where this situation (Shannon care) comes to a head.

I see a legal adoption in Brad and Toni’s future.

Well, at least Shannon is happy with the arrangement.

Military boarding school for Shannon would resolve all of the problems with all of these people. She would probably excel at military training. She certainly isn’t getting any direction or discipline now.

Time to require some monetary compensation. And a contract stipulating such.

Now Brad and Toni will get a real sense of what it means to be a parent. Having Shannon 24/7 for an entire month is obviously a new experience for them. Up until now it’s been a day or two here and there and not weeks and months as some have suggested or else this news wouldn’t even faze them.

Today’s lesson, kids, is PERSONAL BOUNDARIES!!!

If the money’s so great, how about laying some of it on your favorite babysitters?

Okay, hear me out because I know this is a wild speculation, but I see one of two things happening. The first is a month with Shannon makes Brad and Toni decide they are ready to have a child of their own. Or, and this is a WAG, but while traveling in August something bad happens to Jonah causing a devastating injury or death. And, as a result, it will force Brad and Toni to have to take Shannon full-time or adopt her and become parents before they are ready.

I thought Toni and Brad had custody of Shannon? Like they straight up had a guardianship position and Shannon lived with them full time?

Don’t Toni and Jonah have ANY other relatives to help? And if not, it’s looking more and more like Toni and Brad are going to end up keeping Shannon with them. At which point, Toni’s either going to end up pregnant (because extra drama), or decide she’s never having a kid because one over-active kid is enough.

Making the most of a bad situation.

Jonah is loathsome for taking such advantage of Toni and Brad. But those 2 are enabling it. Jonah doesn’t want to be a father, he hardly acknowledged his daughter. The elephant in the room.

Here’s a possible solution to Toni and Brad’s problem. Jonah takes Shannon along to one of his auditions. He’s not hired but someone sees something in Shannon and casts her. She becomes an A-list child star and is kept so busy that she seldom has time to stay with Toni and Brad. (And we don’t have to put up with her anymore either!)

I’ve heard wolves have been known to raise children as their own?

I predict a month long story arc that ends in an adoption.

Time to sign up for some summer camps at the Y, maybe

I think what bothers me the most is that Jonas never asked. He informed them of there plans with the assumption that of course his sister and her husband’s family will put everything on hold because he expected it. It would be completely different if Jonas said I have an amazing opportunity. I need to be gone on these days. I would really appreciate your help. If this works out, I hope to not need as much assistance. But looking at it, that would be a lie. He doesn’t even think to find an alternative child care solution. Why look when you have free child care at a moments notice and no cost to you.

You can tell Shannon is just torn up at the thought of her father leaving her for a whole month……

Something is going to inevitably happen to Jonah, who knows “if” Jonah dies, Brad and Toni are going to get stuck with her and it feels like they’re going to have to “prepare” for that down the road when/if it happens. :| Hopefully not, though. I hate Shannon and Jonah.

School’s out in August, Jonah. Take her with you.
