I’m surprised Les is satisfied with just video games and his cat. Usually, at his age, you want some female companionship.. the ol’ hormones are going wild.

So where is this arc heading? They just want to show us that Les is happy having no ambition?

I like seeing Les’ affection for Punk. It is a starting point for learning relationships.

Bathroom break for who—Les or Punk??

Maybe it’s not a good idea teaching a cat to wait for the “bathroom break” until the last second.

But “Ambition is just stress in a tuxedo” – he may have a point there.

It’s a shame Les doesn’t have any interests beyond video games, but there’s nothing wrong with being content with a less ambitious life. I know several people who have chosen base level jobs, have a few interests/hobbies, and who are very happy. But they usually do have some strong hobbies, like gardening, fitness, painting – something.

We need the Coupon Sales Lady or smebody like that to show up and motivate Les to get a life.

Sorry Les, this cruise doesn’t have a social director, you’re on your own.

I like this arc, and seeing the contrast kind of makes me think about things (not that there are easy answers to such questions). But Punk is so cute it kind of distracts me from the thinking! lol More Punk please!!!

At least he quit sneaking around stealing everyone’s lunch money.

Some people are happy just to cruise through life doing the bare minimum. Or, Les just hasn’t found his passion yet. Give him time. He may just be a late bloomer.

I didn’t find my passion until my forties. I was also a late bloomer.

But at least I bloomed.

Unlike others Punk accepts Les the way he is, and also has no ambition except to sleep and eat, hence the bond.

In Les’ eyes, Punk is the only one who truly understands him.

Free or not? I’ve never thought of neanderhals as “free”. But, if you own a big enough truck, a mass amount of weaponry and and a narrow attitude….. well, you get the picture

Les needs to get a life!

As I always say, when you gotta go, you gotta go.

In the civilization that arose when the common people were allowed to read God’s Word for themselves*, we have so many blessings and so much peace, you can take advantage of it. For most of history, and most of the world today, just surviving takes more “ambition” or rather initiative and hard work than Les has to exhibit.

*Yes, and science — which was known before it got too big for its britches as “the handmaid of faith.”

Such a beautiful relationship between human and cat. Les is young and still has a lot to do and try. This attitude may change over time, or it may stay the same. I just hope Les doesn’t get to thirty wondering if he has wasted his life and envying Gunther for all that he accomplished thanks to his ambition.

There is a lot of truth to the cartoon. Many of the younger generation have zero ambition.

A whole arc featuring arguably the least liked character in the whole strip?

I like the cat, it has made Les a better person. We all have our struggles for sure. Trying to see the positives and being at peace is a good thing. Just my 2 cents! ;-)

There is some logic in Les’s reasoning, but is that lifestyle really enough?

I sure hope he enjoys his Medicaid nursing home.

Maybe someone is truly happy like this, but it seems pretty sad to me.

Sadly, Les represents waaay too many of the people his age today. I guess he’s a step up because he’s not living with his parents and mooching off them. One point for Les.

So let’s see if I’m understanding this properly: Gunther has plans and ambitions and constantly works to try and achieve them and that’s Good because he’s trying to better himself, while Les just sits around all day talking to his pet with no goals whatsoever and that’s Bad because he’s wasting his life.

Meanwhile, Tiffany has plans and ambitions and constantly works to try and achieve them and that’s Bad because she needs to recognize her limitations, while Luann just sits around all day talking to her pet with no goals whatsoever and that’s Good because she’s a Blank Slate.

This strip seem to be leaning in super-hard to the concept of Protagonist-Centered Morality.

Watch. Something is gonna happen to Punk, then Les is gonna turn to the dark side.

At the rate he’s even going to make it to loser dot com.

Simple man, simple pleasures.

People who believe they “know everything they need to know” are usually not very smart.

Torpidity is a noun that means a state of mental and physical inactivity, or a partial suspension of sensibility.

Maybe, ultimately, the opposite.

Les is more than likely just taking a break from trying too hard socially.

Les, fine to hold it and wait till later… but at a certain age, holding it in is not in the cards! lol
