I was so glad to see in today’s paper yesterday that this is what we have to look forward to, but can’t we please, please,please, for the love of cake stay on this for longer than just a week or two? This is Luann’s comic after all, how about actually letting her character experience some growth and development for a change.
It’s not a bad idea to actively try to have new experiences – they don’t have to be big things. A friend who recently turned 70 decided to have 70 new experiences in the coming year.
Living in Beijing, I get to see an interesting shirt on sale for tourists. It has “I (heart) BJ” on the front. Luann should get that one too and see her parents’ reaction.
We actually got back to Mrs. Horner?!!! Hurrah. But will be teaching anymore? Will Luann stop wearing that stupid Blank Slate T-Shirt? Will she do something interesting? Inquiring minds want to know!
Somebody PLEASE tell Luann that “blank slate” is derogatory and implies that she is merely a passive receptor of other people’s information and influences. This was the model of public schooling generations ago as students were treated as empty vessels to receive uncritically what ever they were taught. That is the more accurate metaphor. It now seems clear that “BS” describes G&K’s grasp of Luann’s development.
Yawn. Luann, huh? She’s all talk and no action. One of the boringest characters in this strip. Guess GnK think we need a nice and steady reprieve from the Quad Dorm drama. The truth is the last strip of Quad Dorm were all words, too. My guess they will need to bring back Kip to inject drama in that room. Probably not for another month or so. So what will this Luann arc be about? Will we read about Mrs Horner’s younger days as to encourage Luann to explore and be adventurous? Nah. Its not her nature. I also think she’s still recovering from the sting of the Quill breakup which is why she hasn’t shown any interest. She’s been living a monotone life.

I wish I could go back to see a couple of teachers to thank them….and tell them they were correct about a few things in life as you get older, when at the time I was in high school, I was sure they didn’t know what they were talking about.
It’s so nice to see dear Mrs. Horner again. The deep connection Luann has with her is so sweet. I’m curious to see where this discussion about what Luann can put on her slate goes. If anyone can really help her figure out what she wants, it’s Mrs. Horner.

Usually when there is a Ms. Horner arc and Luann it means something significant is about to be said or happen, or both, that is very important in Luann’s development in her world. Luann is still trying to find her purpose and Ms. Horner is a wise way, with a few misdirection plays along the way.
Luann is way too lazy to accomplish this “blank slate” goal she’s come up with. She needs to just forget all that, get ride of that hideous shirt and accept that she is an unmotivated slob.

Tiff and Bern have often displayed their romantic inclinations, like most all the regulars in the strip. But it’s precisely her lack of such inclinations that keeps Luann so bland. I don’t know why G&K want to keep her as an eternal nun, because it seems so un-entertaining. I actually liked Quill, but while Luann liked him socially, she kept him at a distance even after they were in college, with her apparently inhibited libido, so they broke up. Pru was Quill’s immediate replacement, and for years there were hints that she and Lu might hit it off. That could even explain Luann’s chill toward Quill. But G&K abruptly dropped that theme too, so it’s back to the convent for Luann.
I like this as a stand alone strip. She was a blank slate so instead of skydiving, she visited an elderly person. I think that is beautiful right there.
