Trump is really the perfect avatar for a nation in decline. It isn’t surprising that a country where far too many citizens are easily distracted by the trivial. who paint themselves as victims in search of “others” as being the cause of their unhappiness, and are unwilling to put in even the most minimal the work to protect democracy would elevate a “leader” who is a lazy, willfully ignorant, and self-centered sociopath.

This would be funnier if it were accurate. I especially like the reference to “sex offenders” (reference to Matt Gaetz, who was framed?) and NOT mentioning Democrats like Joe and Hunter Biden, Bill Clinton, Ed Buck, the Podesta brothers…

I think what people are missing about trump in this transition to the new administration, involving Musk and all the crazy things going on, is the way he uses outrageous statements as a distraction. For example, his talk about making Canada the 51st state or adding Greenland to the United States—these things sound absurd, but that’s the point. Over the last several months, his wild claims serve as smoke and mirrors to distract from what’s really happening behind the scenes.

It’s diabolically genius, the way this operates. It’s just like how a magician works: they distract you with something fantastic on one side, while on the other side, they’re executing the real trick. All the chaos and noise are deliberate, designed to keep people’s attention away from the truth.

In 2016 the politically naïve tRump thought he had lost the election and was surprised to find that he had won. McConnell managed to get what he thought he wanted, someone to sign into law whatever and whoever he chose. Contrary to what some think, tRump is not stupid. In fact he is very smart. He learns quickly. As tRump learned how to seize power he threw those in his way under the bus. McConnell and the rest, outside now looking in. He knew that all he needed was his base. The promises and lies and drama and money would get the temporary added support needed for an election. Money can bring you to power, but money can’t buy that power. It’s been tried before many times in our history. Intangibles get that power. tRump has the intangibles, and has the power. Not Musk, and Musk never will. Not Theil, nor any other billionaire. Remember the Koch brothers. When tRump decides he will throw Musk and anyone else under that bus. And there is not a thing they can do about it.

But where’s the typewriter so that Rudy and Sydney can put out their briefs using the latest technology?

I checked the Comments section of several strips immediately following Biden’s win, and Biden supporters didn’t taunt and insult Trump supporters nearly as much as the reverse has been the case. Obviously Biden supporters have a lot more class than Trump supporters, which is admittedly not entirely unlike saying “I’m a nicer guy than Stalin.”
