There are only two kinds of people staying on this beach: Those that are dead and those that are going to die . Get off your butts ! You are the fighting 29th !
The ancients thought philosophy would teach you not to fear death. The Epicureans were sure of it, āSomeone threatens you with death? Thatās nothing to fear. It is the end of all pain and suffering.ā Epictetus was disappointed with some of his followers, āThose d@mn Christians donāt fear death, cāmon guys you got to be smarter than them.ā
(In the first few centuries CE Christianity was regarded as a school of philosophy. It considered itself the best, and other kinds considered it the worst.)
How incredibly odd.A āChristianā comic strip endorsing the philosophy that you should ACTUALLY enjoy your life INSTEAD of āsacrificingā every single joy that you can, just so you can āre-coupā those joys later in the afterlife.Cool!!!!Dan akaā¦.ps thanks, Mr. Stephan Pastis!!!!!
Tomorrow is coming no matter what you do today. You might as well live it up while you can. Age will slow you down and the Scythe-Guy will get you in the end but today will be just fine, great even.
If living requires artificial life support with total dependence on tubes for feeding, frequent diaper changes and no autonomy whatsoever as an adult, dying would be a welcome release.
I think those who have had face to face experience with death have a different view than most others. We might not like, but do understand natureās death. Facing violent death even more different. Choosing to face death in war, again, is different than what others experience. Living is up to the individual, not someone elseās idea of how you should live your life. Active or sedentary in front of a TV, it is your choice. No one elseās.
People who want to be happy do not intentionally waste their years. They are hindered by something, someone or a lack of something or possibly someone, I am not sure.
āI went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.ā
A retirement specialist once explained, "People who say theyāll take up an activity, like golf or travelling, or painting after they retire, donāt. Retirees tend to do the same activities they did when they were younger.
