As of this writing, we had 434 comments yesterday! And so many of them predicted disaster would ensue from the phone call. Suddenly, Bets has a level head and a gracious heart. This could be the start of something big…

I think Bets will be good for Gunther. I hope this works out!

Bets makes me uneasy……

Bets seems willing and ready to participate in a relationship, Gunther, well, the boy needs to step up and make Bets a priority. Tiffany needs to back off and Luann needs to find a hobby – that doesn’t involve Gunther.

Hooray for Bets! Tiffany will find out that Gunther has a girlfriend and he is not her default go to guy any more.

Okay, Bets, you’re getting there. Remember not to harp on his phone calls. He has friends and they are important to him. You haven’t earned that status just yet but if you keep up with being a team player and reasonable, you will surpass the status of his friends one day.

Bets wants Tiff to come to them, so she can keep an eye on Tiff.

Bets evokes strong feelings. When I first saw her, I liked her a lot. Then I didn’t like her. Now I’m beginning to like her again. I have a feeling that, when she finds out how Tom and Ann are treating Tiffany, she will take Tiffany’s side completely. I wonder if she will assist in the downfall of Ann. Bets is street smart and stands up strongly for what she thinks is right. She could be a real help to Tiffany. Bets and Tiffany will probably end up rooming together.

Very smart move by Bets. Instead of cutting Gunther off from his friends, Bets is getting Gunther’s friends to accept them as a couple!

This is going so good I am getting scared, just a little. Is Bets moving too fast, did Gunther’s seeming double entendre last panel amount to just a reaction without him really understanding what she meant? Suddenly she puts it to him. “If we are a thing, this is how we do things” I like the way “they” do things, instead of being at Tiffanys’ beck and call, Tiffany has to come to him, them. Gunther can stop being such a easily pushed around wuss—some of the time, unless he gets frustrated. I remain optimistic though, Bets is the bast thing that could happen to Gun, she might be possessive, but he knows possessive—people keep forgetting how he was raised, and by whom—but Bets can be with him in totally different ways than a mom could ever be. I personally think the bigger issue might come up, if and when Bets meets Irma, not when she meets Tiffany. So I think GnK are throwihg up little juks and jibes to put us off, I believe this is and they are a “thing” I hope.

Sorry I try not to leave two original comments. Looking at the last panel backwards again, the wording says one thing—uncertainty—but the faces say another—excitement that they might really be a thing on Gunther’s part, and pure strong feelings of affection on on Bets part. Plus does the touching thing at the same time. This girl knows something, and she really, really likes Gun. So still worried by not so much.

How quickly the “thing” became “us” and I think that “us” is going to share their first kiss.

Okay, some of you are just being ridiculous. If Bets suddenly had a halo, you’d complain about it being too bright.

Honestly, I have to ask some of you; do you really think Bets is a bad match for Gunther? Or are you complaining for the sake of complaining? Because it is really getting annoying by now. Especially since the issue is a possible relationship for Gunther. If he was an actual person, and took some of these comments to heart, he’d die bitter and alone. Because he will have listened to people who get their kicks out of spoiling his happiness. I know, everyone’s gonna say I’m too worked up. But I honestly get sick of people being negative for the sake of being negative.

I like the way Bets is dealing with the situation. I did not expect her to react that way, but it’s good to see that she’s being reasonable, showing support and even willingness to help Gunther.

It’s annoying to go out with someone who keeps texting. Social media ruins relationships.

Bets says the statements “I’m helping” and “if we’re a thing, it’s how we do things.” That’s logically equivalent to the statement, “I’m helping and either we’re not a thing or I’m helping.” That statement is true whether they are a thing or not, so it does not prove that they are a thing.

The trap has been sprung, and poor Gunther didn’t even realize it!!

Given bets demeanor, i can almost bet she’ll offer to be the mannequin. And “gun” experiencing an “accidental discharge” seeing bets in tiffany’s lingerie.

So the stage is set up for live theater. The set is Gunther’s room with a bed and a mannequin, and maybe the common area living room with bean bag chairs. Has Bets been to Gunther’s room before? It seems like there’s been no intimacy yet. Bets should project warmth toward Tiffany when she enters – to minimize the need for Tiffany to compete. Then Les enters the house. Will Tiffany fawn on Les to even the teams? Anyhoo I hope at the end of this scene, Bets and Gunther wind up alone in his room for a bit – and it’s kiss kiss now or never.

Until she knows she can trust him, this is a very gentle and possibly fun way to watch him interact with the people in his life. I see no problem with Betts going this route. After all this is a lot of unknown risks for her too

Well, I understand why she was single now and going through guys. They probably saw how controlling she is and ran. Good thing for her that Gunther is an oblivious pushover.

What could go wrong here? If Tiff begins to act like Paris, everything can. What’s meant to be will be, and whats not, won’t be. We gotta wait til’ Friday to see.

Bets has a point. But… Come to us where? In Gunther’s place? The one he share with Les??? Huston, we have a problem! Or she mean in her place? Maybe this will really be the start of Bets and Tiffany becoming roommates?!

Chances are Tiff has so much stuff that it would be easier to bring the mannequin and camera to her. What if she has to take it all to the Gulag? Would she borrow Jack and his truck? Would Tara get involved? Will Irma visit and find Gunther in a room with three hot women and a pile of racy lingerie?

Or will nothing happen and we switch back to the camping arc?

No, she’s right. I am a retired freelance graphics designer. I’d go to businesses yes, but individuals came to MY studio.

It would probably be eazier to move the mannequin than all of Tiffs’ stuff.

So Bets and Gunther, are a “thing” now. And, she wants to help Gunther take pictures of the stuff, Tiff wants to sell on Ebay. THe next question is how will Ms. Entitled feel about this (and, will Bets make an offer on any of Tiff items, like some of the lingerie?)

I’ll make a bold prediction here! (Yes. I’m usually wrong.) Bets will play some part in advancing Tiff’s path to moguldom.

If Bets and Tiffany started a tug of war over Gun (ugh, name doesn’t fit. sorry Mordy) that would put Gunther in a stressful position. But then Greg’s good at that.

More realistically: “Tiff, stop by to borrow the mannequin whenever you want. Send me your pictures when you’re done, and I’ll put them on eBay for you.”

Bets is strong willed. She may just be perfect for spaghetti spined “Gun”. But I could be wrong. Could a cat fight be brewing with Bets & Tiff? Stay tuned. It could be fun to watch.

So Tiffany is still in the dorms. Tips must be good at Kablooie!

Of course, Les lives there too and the manly backdrops may not be so great for lingerie. But Irma could notice the gathering and bring cookies. Al would come with Irma. Les’ presence in conversation about his and Tiff’s parents gets Al involved as a better business mentor.

Next up Tiff is telling Gunther “Help me put my lingerie on…” just as Les walks in.

I find it interesting that Tiffany showed no overt jealousy at Bet’s and Gunther’s first meet. I think Greg has a predetermined path for Tiffany (maybe Gunther, too) and that would only be complicated by a rivalry with Bets. Also, Bets is making noises like exclusivityville. Upping the ante.

Where you going, Greg? I asked my Magic 8 Ball and it said, “Better Not Tell You Now”! (I hate magic!)

I have affection for the strip, but the authors have no sense of plot or pacing, and everyone’s reactions this week show why that matters. We’re told that off-screen they’ve had several nice dates and gotten very close. All we’ve actually seen, though, are two farcically contrived arguments, in which she looks controlling because we haven’t seen enough of them together to understand why she feels invested in the relationship or threatened that he’s not on the same page, and he sounds like a moron who can’t spit out a simple explanation, because otherwise there’s no conflict. (By the way, this is the same reason the people at the snarky website hate Gunther — we’re always told that he’s smart and a nice guy, but in the bits we get to see, he’s almost always acting whiny and touchy.)

Besides – it’s a great way to check out the competition…

WORSE, when Tiff sees Bets, she MAY get Jealous and start pretend flirting” with Les IN order to irk Gunther and get him to focus on HER not Bets. Les, will get the WRONG idea and think it’s for real, Tiffany will find it hard pressed to get out of it. THAT Will cause ME to go into uncontrollable projectile vomiting, And NOBODY Wants THAT. And My AIM is True! Just ask David Huie Green. ;)

I HOPE, I Pray, that Gunther (Or Tiffany) suggests that Tiff has too many items to bring over and that Bets and Gun SHOULD forget the mannequin go to Tiff’s Place for the photo session. And that Bets and Tiffany can Model the clothes and jewelry as it would make for a better selling point.

I’m a little concerned that she is going to chase Gunther away. She just told him he’s an Item. He hasn’t quit processed this new upgrade, and Tiff is distracting him from the task of figuring out whats going on. I Don’t think this whole thing will end how everyone wants it too.

Bets behavior today is controlling. Before she was just asking questions, trying to understand Gunther’s odd phone conversation. Today she is telling him what to do and inserting herself into the photo shoot without being invited. Gunther never asked her to come along. She is also pushing for a relationship faster than Gunther is comfortable with.

I wonder what Gunther’s mom will think of Bets if and when she meets her. She probably won’t like another woman telling her Gunthie what to do. That is Irma’s job.

GnK has two women at play here, Tiffany and Betts. One is attempting to control Gunther, and one is telling Gunther to have a backbone and she is with him. As I said in an earlier comment, this could be one of the best GnK arcs.

It’s definitely easier to move a mannequin and a camera. Tiff probably has a couple tons of lingerie to sell. Bets is definitely trying to monitor this situation. I hope she relaxes a little once she gets to know everyone.

The more I see of Bets the more I like her. Gunth with Tiff would never last, but Bets is his perfect match.

Ah! This should be truly fun and interesting!!!!!!

I really like the “togetherness” that Bets is suggesting for her and Gun(ther).

Bets will (inadvertently) end up learning a whole helluva lot about Gun(ther) that she did not yet realize. But…. hopefully she will see more a bigger picture idea and not just the “box” Tiffany will likely put Gunther into.

The one concern I have is…. will Tiffany display and/or act on the potential “jealousy” that she may feel about Gunther and Bets? Tiffany has a track record of trying to outshine many females for attention. I hope that she does not do that in this case.

Could there be an ulterior motive to all this? Are they really a couple? Will Tiffany get her revenge on Ann? Will Luanne finally get a date that won’t run away? Stay tooned.

Having ask him ask his friends to come to HIM, as opposed to him going out of his way to help THEM?! … More so, having a closer ‘thing’ with a girl like Bets?! … There’s a LOT of new terrain that Gunther is traversing, so HOPEFULLY he won’t be:

I dunno…given the size of Tiffany’s wardrobe it might actually be more difficult to bring all of her stuff to him than for him to just carry one little mannequin to her.

Thank goodness Bets is finally realizing that “Gun” is new at this and will need to be guided out of his comfort zone. Clearly his adventure in Peru didn’t quite do the trick.

Beware of outsiders’ advice. Bets and Gunther are a “thing” until they, themselves determine that they are not. Some degree of intimacy should be a natural occurrence, but if it does not happen, a very important element is missing. That would be a signal to move on.

Wasn’t it Tiff’s intention to photograph her wardrobe in order to sell it online? If so, then Gunthy and Bits will have to go to her dorm room, as her wardrobe is too voluminous to transport anywhere else. Am I right, or have I missed something?

Why do I get the sinking feeling that Bets is a controlling nutcase?

Ok, I know I’m coming late to this party (family obligations have kept me too busy to read the comments) but wasn’t Bets’ skin tone quite a bit darker when she was first introduced? I hope she wasn’t in black face in order to play Uhura.

Okay, a little skin color contrast slightly visible in third panel, more so in my newspaper’s black and white print today. Not what bothers me. It’s Greg’s drawing of Bets’ eyes. She’s not looking at Gunther, she’s looking somewhere across the room.

So, Bets is simultaneously both a little pushy and a little (or a lot) possessive. Maybe this is what wishy-washy Gunther needs, at least for the moment.

But in the longer run, this too shall pass….

I want to like Bets, but she really is pushy about her and “Gun” being a couple.

In the long run, this will be good for Gunther.

It will also be good for Bets.

Gunther has grown so much over the years. We’ve just met Bets.

This is actually exactly what Gunth needs.He’s always been zoned and part of it is him always jumping for he main character ladies (Luann, Bernice, Tiff) what Bets is proposing isn’t a big deal and it’s fair.

Especially since Tiff doesn’t seem to be doing any of the work. If she doesn’t like it, she can always start her “business career” out by learning how to sell on Ebay herself.
