And I remember the angst Gunther had leading up to kissing Rosa, long ago.

Luann looks a little upset in that last panel. Hmmmm.

Yeah, guys don’t mind kissing. Gunther probably did not realize Bets was snapping a selfie because he was so involved with kissing her. And I doubt he minds – it’s something he likes to do. I don’t think he likes the posing and constant filming, though. And Luann, push your horns down. That’s what couples do – they kiss. You know how it is considering the numerous boyfriends you had. Or are you wondering if the “connection” has gone beyond the kiss? I think Bernice’s demeanor says she thinks that.

If this were an 80s situation comedy, the audience would be oooooo-ing and awwwww-ing. The kiss looks natural and unforced (well dwawn!) and Bernice’s pontification is punctured. Yay!!!

Luann & Bernice look upset, maybe they should be happy for Gunther. A real friend would be.

They underestimated good old Gunther! Not the dweeb they knew back in the good old days! It is time for the young ladies to leave the room and start living! The room isn’t the center of LuAnnUniverse.Being envey of “Bets ‘N’ Gun” is not productive. But I can be wrong about fate of the luannuniverse.

Well, Brad’s been transformed, Gunther is being transformed, and even Bernice’s hair has been transformed. Luann is the only cast member who hasn’t changed at all. Will Luann ever be transformed?

Hmmm. being all dominated, displayed, full of discomfort visited by the manipulative Bets eh? Try to pull Gunther off and explain that to him. The boy has found a girl who is showing him how a man loves a woman, even a nerd, to another HOT nerd. And for my money she wants the world to know, and Gun does too POWER TO THE GUNTHER!!

Now, they need to have a discussion and get something straight between them.

Well, this is something Luann and Bernice definitely weren’t expecting. They should be glad because the romantic life of Gunther is finally paying off.

Suddenly Gun’s stock is rising…

Today’s strip makes me really happy. I hope this means that Gunther has finally overcome his blocks and started enjoying the convention and all the crazy things around him. If this is the case, HOORAY for Bets, which has opened up to him a completely new world by accompanying him holding his hand. This would make him more confident and cheerful.

Turn off the camera. Something’s suddenly come up.

This strip can’t get past its junior-high mindset. The people who have been dating for some time just kissed!

Now Bets just needs to “leak” a very private intercourse video, look betrayed shocked and ashamed for a few months and then she and Gunther will get their own reality tv show.

Gunther, like Brad before him and more recently Jack, is definitely undergoing appearance changes. Leading to where? Brad got the gold ring professionally and personally. Jack is currently friend zoned with Luann but socially active otherwise.

Greg has portrayed Gunther as an “awesome” kisser by Luann and an “amazing” kisser by Bernice in the past. Greg has experimented with his looks; hairstyle, facial hair, now a do rag….

Is Greg finally going to settle on a self assured Gunther? Or one that only can take on the persona of his cosplay characters?

Is this Gunther and Bets kissing or Alita and whats his name kissing? Suspect it is role play for attention and likes, not real involvement. Gunther will realize this soon I suspect.

Is this really what we did all week? I want to see how Tiff is doing.

Obviously Gunther and “PDA” are two things Luann and Bernice ever expected to happen together.

Again leading back to the real underlying point of the arc: not Gunther and Bets’, BUT Luann’s envy/jealousy.

WAIT a minute.

There’s something “Missing,” here in the last panel. Have You noticed it?

Sparks. There are NO Sparks flying when Gunther kisses Bets. Not the way Sparks flew when he first kissed Luann. Or Bernice. Or Rosa. And GAW only knows what happened between him and Tiffany that night in her room, but she DID come eagerly looking for him later.

But with Bets? Nothing. Nada. Zilch. I saw it the first time they “kissed.” It’s as though they are performing a scene for a movie, which for all intents and purposes, they ARE.

Gunther wanted someone to share his interests with. And he got THAT, with ”Interest.” But “Romance” unfortunately, doesn’t appear to part of the equation. At least not now. That fact seems to also be painfully apparent with Bets, else she would stuck with Horn Dog Les. Nope. Bets is more interested in “Advertising and self promotion.” And that’s SAD really. Because when the day comes that Gunther DOES want Real Romance, its likely he’s NOT gonna get it from Bets. Not with any Passion. Not without her SHARING it with the rest of the Planet. SAD.

Poor Gunther. He THOUGHT he was dating Halle Berry.

But wound up dating Kim Kardashian. :(

Okay, so they’re k.i.s.s.i.n.g…. Big deal! Move along, people (that means YOU, Lu and Bern!).

THIS is why I think Bets is his first serious relationship. She has inspired a confidence in him we’ve never seen before. I hope they resolve their social media issues. Aside from that, this is a good relationship for Gunther. And for the most part he’s having fun. But he needs to have that talk with her about his feelings of being posted on the Internet all the time.

Is it serious to her? I ask because of her “obsession” with posting everything.

And my vocal response to the final panel was “YEAH!”, loud enough to startle the 2 cats in the kitchen window. And one of them was outside.

To all who think Bets is taking the photo: Look at the last panel again. Bets’ near-camera right hand is on Gunther. For her to take that picture, she would have to have a left arm about 7 feet long that could go behind her back, frame the shot and use the phone. Someone else took the photo, shared it with Bets, who then uploaded it.

For me, I like the photo of Bets and Gunther…. it looks real and it looks sincere for both parties. I mentioned this in a comment to Mordy’s comment above… but PERHAPS this is really an arc more about Gunther just becoming more comfortable in a relationship. The “fussy-fidgity” earlier Gunther would have likely been upset and awkward at being on social media (even something as commonplace as a kissing couple)…. and would have been likely awkward just getting a kiss even without social media. Perhaps what Greg is doing here is using the social media arc to highlight that Gunther is growing more comfortable in his own skin…. is progressing into a new facet of his life…. and by contrast with Luann at the moment…. Luann is still in her “old-school” mode?

Come on Luann, time to step up to the plate and tell Gunther how you feel about him. It’s pretty obvious you like him, you two almost kissed.

Personally, I believe Gunther dosen’t really like all this sort of online attention. He’s just going along with it to make his girl happy. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not exactly good either…

Guess Bets is being a bit of a positive influence on Gunther. Though posting everything they do on social media is still a bad habit to fall into.

He doesn’t look like Gunther. Unless Gunther dyed his hair black and straighten it.

At least one of these college kids is evolving. Finally.

LuAnn needs to get a clue that if you snooze you loose and if she’s not careful Jack will slip away too and she will end up a nerd spinster like Bernice…

I’m still not sold on Gunther being okay with the whole social media celebrity thing. But, looks like he’s really into Bets so that might mitigate the circumstance. I hope Bets knows social media fame is a double-edged sword. The more accolades you get the more haters come out the woodwork. Some are dangerous.
