This is cool but a bit melancholy and sad as we know Queen Mag lost her daughter and O’Prometheus lost his father to being hit by a car. Nonetheless, it is real cool to see the raccoons and opossum about to have a “summit” of sorts with lots of historical context as we know Mags goes back into the late ’80s like Baba Mouse and the great war between the two sides predates that time. I kind of miss Jules but it is August and he did his good deed for July by rallying support for Mags. Time to find a strategy to restore the balance of power in the BCN universe!
Opossum lifespan: 1.5 years, one to two in the wild, as much as four in captivity. I know, I know, don’t think so hard. Just had to say it. They are sweet little animals but even shorter-lived than rats.
Opa reminds me of something I saw on TV. A woman had raised a baby opossum. It was pink and clean and had combed fur and was, well, well-fed. It had outgrown several pens and she was trying to figure out what to do, as she didn’t have room for a larger pen. A veterinarian helped find it a home in a zoo as an ambassador animal. She went to the zoo’s ambassador program to see it and was both happy for it, and sad for herself.
Today we receive significant info for the family tree I requested yesterday! I will begin drawing extensive charts. Just as soon as I finish my solemn moment of silence for Mr Opossum’s dad.
Georgia’s artwork is so gorgeous and detailed with every new strip. I do hope there can be another compilation book or books to come. I would love to have the full BCN history in book form!
I’ve learned so much about opossums from this strip and its comments. We were always afraid one of our cats would get into a dustup with one. However, since even Waffle chose to ignore the Rodent of Unusual Size (groundhog) who lived in our yard for awhile, we were probably worried about nothing. And they eat ticks!!!
I find it poignant that both the Raccoons and Opossums lost their heir apparent to automobiles. But unlike Montague, they don’t seem to be holding animosity for mankind or waging a war; they are just getting on with their lives.
Thanks Georgia for so perfectly rendering a possum’s sweet little pink nose! Possums may not have ended up being the prettiest of creatures on the planet, but their noses and foot pads are 100% squeee worthy!

It’s good to know the opossums are guided, not ruled as the moles are (at least for now).

Peter Cetera: The Glory of Love
It’s becoming very clear
As we are hiding here
It’s time to put away our conflicts,
We’ve all been through the pain
No need to fight again
We’ve had our loss and sorrows
…….
It now is time to fight for our honor
Time to be the heroes we’re all dreaming of,
Let’s get together, knowing forever
We cannot lose with the glory of love!
…….
We’ve had our quarrels before,
We’ve even fought a war,
And nearly harmed a friend in July,
But now we need you,
Now we will heed your wise words
…….
It now is time to fight for our honor
Time to be the heroes we’re all dreaming of,
Let’s get together, knowing forever
We cannot lose with the glory of love!
…….
Like a knight in shining armor,
From a dumpster we know,
It is time to save the day!
Time to take a stand, not run away!
…….
It now is time to fight for our honor
Time to be the heroes we’re all dreaming of,
Let’s get together, knowing forever
We cannot lose with the glory of love!

Obadiah Opossum: That was a delicious lunch, gentle cats. My compliments to the chefs.
Thomios: I would like to give a special shout out to Iggy, who prepared his first fish entreé.
Iggy: Thank you. It’s fun catching fish and cooking fish.
Ora Z: I enjoy lighting the grill.
Puckmosis: Thomios let you do that?
Thomios: Don’t worry. We had the kitchen fire brigade standing by.
Obie: I love the tapestries. Did the Artisans make them?
Maat-Tilda: Yes. Adobe Style and I did the fabric work, while Sophititi did the beadwork.
Obie: I learned fabric art at university.
Soph: Oh, where did you go?
Obie: Where else? oPunn State.
Tillie: Did you have a specialty?
Obie: Yes. I did fabric art with gemstones. My favorite gem is opal.
Adobe Style: Would you like to see our studio?
Obie: Love to. Right after I help with the cleanup.
