I ate a Christmas cookie that was decorated with edible glitter today and thought of Lupin. At least they told me it was edible …

In panel 4 the cookies seem to have disappeared into the glitter cloud around Lupin. Probably not edible glitter either.

But . . . but . . . Puck was just trying to protect the Boy! He was trying to stop him from doing something naughty just before Christmas. And when that didn’t work, he tried to divert attention (and blame) away from the Boy by pretending, pretending, mind you, to eat a cookie! There’s no shame associated with protecting someone else! (Lupin, on the other hand, appears to just be taking advantage of the situation. That must be who Elvis is pointing at when he says, “Cookie Shame!” He couldn’t mean Puck!)

My Mother-in-law would make a huge plate of cookies to give out to everyone. We would gorge ourselves… and gain quite a few pounds. People are now warning that cookies are not that great with the pandemic. Mostly because people are not getting out to work it off. And then there is my niece. She has been going through a fairly strict diet for the past couple of years! Things like… no dairy products, no gluten, no added sugar. So mostly… no cookies for her! I think I might go to the store and buy a bunch of different kinds of nuts. Like a box of candies/chocolates… different nuts in their own little sections. It could probably last until the middle of spring! That is… if she doesn’t enjoy them! :)

Fortunately, the cookie sheets appear to have cooled off a bit by the time the Boy reaches up on the counter in panel 3. I can say from experience that bare fingers on hot baking pans is . . . well, it’s not fun.

I’ve heard that cookies are in short supply this season. Lots of demand and not enough workers to make them. Just as well, homemade cookies are so much better. Seems the Dunn family is lucky to have a willing and able baker in house!

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Queen Catshepsut the Golden: Thank you for coming to visit, Royal soothsayer. No doubt you are aware there has un-crime wave around the palace. What could it mean?

Baba-Stet: I’ve heard about this. It is my understanding that the perpetrator is trying to be bad in a good way.

The Queen: Any idea who this person is?

Baba-Stet: Yes, but I believe they should remain anonymous.

    The Queen: In other words….

    Baba-Stet: Right. I’ll never tell.

The Queen: And the origami cats?

Baba-Stet: Just goes to show there really is a Papyrus Cat.

The Queen: Well yeah. I know Kat-Mandu. He delivers the scrolls and packages all the time.

Baba-Stet: But there are still those who do not believe.

    At the Royal Office

Elvis-Anum: If course there is such thing as origami. But a Papyrus Cat?

    Brightly shone Lupin that night

    Though Elvis was kinda cruel

And poor Pucky took a bite

My friends & I are planning on our annual cookie exchange this year, but it’ll be different. We ‘drop off’ our tins filled with sealed baggies of cookies on our hostess’s porch at timed intervals, the cookie elves will sort and compile so everyone gets a variety and we receive a text when our filled containers are ready to be picked up on the porch.

The Mother-In-Law arrives next weekend. (I really wish she wouldn’t travel, but I kind of get it, as we’re approaching the first anniversary of her mother’s passing.) As much as she and I butt heads, she is a singular baker and already has plans to devote an entire day to making Christmas cookies. I, in turn, have made plans to take a day off from my day job and work for Santa all day, as my “home office” is our dining room and we’d be in each other’s way.

Good morning everyone! I wanted to mention we have MANY new items in the BCN Zazzle store, including “Beatrix’ week from heck, in a year of straight up poop!” panel on… well, pretty much everything, lol! The BCN 2021 calendar is also done and should be in the Zazzle store sometime this weekend! You can find it all here: https://www.zazzle.com/store/breaking_cat_news If you search newer items, or go to pages 3 and 4 in the shop many of the new ones should show up!

I have said that I have a painful double ear infection, and I teased a as a about his ear comment. But despite treatment my infection persists. My Maine coin Pepper will not leave my side. His paws “hold” my hand all night. When I am awake he kisses my head or lies on my leg. I could not have a better nurse for my soul. Dog people say cats don’t care. This cat is a born caretaker. He has raised 2 abandoned kittens and now he is caring for me. This is why we love cats.

    Today is:

A personal day of remembrance for General Chuck Yeager: There’s a reason he wore Astronaut’s Wings—he was the first American more than sixty miles up. Chuck Yeager was one Sierra Hotel pilot, and much more. While he may not be widely remembered, he will be by those whose eyes are on the stars.

International Mountain Day: “I’m a mountainy man, by God. My pappy was a wolf, an’ my mother was a bored grizzly. I was weaned on rattlesnake milk …” —Henry Frapp, in The Mountain Men

National Noodle Ring Day: Edible jewelry, the latest fashion craze … Stranger things have happened. However, according to my son the jeweler, it’s hard to get the gemstones to stay put. According to his father, the geologist, the stones are also hard on the teeth. Nevertheless, De gustibus non disputandem est.

National Have a Bagle Day: I bet they make better rings or other jewelry than noodles, more durable, anyway … A nice, plain bagel right now would help, either plain or toasted and buttered. Sigh.

Official Lost and Found Day: How was this day lost? Where? When? By whom? Was it merely mislaid, or actually lost? Who found it? Where did they find it? Was it damaged? Does it need to be cleaned? Film at 11.

Not good. Really not good. December, the WORST time to be naughty. Santa’s more likely to pay more attention to December naughtiness than to Jamuary goodness as it’s just soo much closer to whenhe has to make his trip.

But I have good news for you Puck, I just checked Claus.com on the nuaghty or nice list. Your recent naughtiness has hurt you a little. Still, this is what they had to say about you:

    Puck

“Nice, but has been naughty at times. Neatness and politeness have been very good over the last two weeks. Shows proper respect for others. Shares well, but could always be better. With a little more effort could be near top of “nice” list."
