Lupin nailed it. I made a list of everything needed for, well, everything, and I probably forgot something. But after Tuesday’s Grocery run, i’m done. I just need to make sure I have everything for the french toast breakfast. OJ!
Oh boy! Will The Woman forget to remove the center rack from the oven before preheating it to cook the turkey again? It’s practically a family tradition!
Ah, the week where thanks are given that you’ve gotten through the week without resorting to physical assault on your family as they ‘help’ you get ready for the day before Black Friday?
This is me all year long. I’m always coming home after shopping, only to realize I forgot something. Usually, I don’t go back to get it though. I try to keep extra supplies on hand just in case.
I got everything but the veggies last month, or even before that. Got all my Thanksgiving dishes ready to be made. I am already making my list for the Christmas groceries.
OT: I can’t do turkey here… no place to store it and the oven is too chancy. You put a potato in there to bake and every smoke alarm in the place goes off. So, I’ll probably make a big crockpot of Ayurvedic Split Pea Soup, known to Sean Bell and me as Afghan Chili. What follows is the improved version as he and I make it.
We keep up with our Chopin Liszt as we need things. It’s my job to write it all down. Yes, we even have a pad with their busts on top, labeled Chopin Liszt.
Dad’s cooking the Thanksgravy dinner. He does it every year. He loves to cook, so we benefit.
I use AnyList on my phone. I had to do something. I’d think of something I’d need and think “Oh, I’ll write that down in a minute,”, then I’d forget to write it down. Because I use a couple of Alexas in the house, and AnyList integrates with that, I can ask her to add ‘yada yada’ to my list for whatever store the minute I think about it and I don’t miss half of what I used to. Of course, I’m always one short of whatever I need because I still always forget something, but that’s human nature, I think.
Yeah, off in 1/2 hour to get something I didn’t forget, but found I needed 1 1/2lbs of, not 1 lb. Luckily I read the recipe early for a change. Only do the dressing once a year and had the shopping list on my calendar, but got the sausage part wrong.
I usually don’t forget anything when I go to the market….but I do get an awful lot of “redirects”.
“Honey, while you’re at the store, can you get Herbes de Provence, fresh Thyme, some more rosemary, and Tahitian Vanilla.”
“You’re watching Chef Jean Pierre on you-tube again?”
I have never seen Herbes de Provence at our local market, so of course, this is an extended trip now, have to go to the uptown market to get this stuff. Then it’s “what took you so long?”
Our stove stopped working a couple of years ago after a city subcontractor backed over our gas meter. I “replaced” it with an electric hot plate and a micro-convection/air frier. The kids and I like different things for Thanksgiving so everyone just gets what they want.
Fortunately or unfortunately, this will not be the Skipper household this week. Thursday marks the first anniversary of MIL’s passing, thus The Woman doesn’t feel celebratory this week.
We will still do a couple of things. MIL’s traditional breakfast was the stuff that a wellness coach’s nightmares are made of, a concoction of deconstructed biscuits and brown sugar she called “monkey bread” which we will consume as we watch the parade. I swear, The Girl is able to consume half her weight in monkey bread.
The Girl’s other great-grandmother, The Gigi (my mom), turned her on to what I can best describe as miniature pigs in a blanket as an hors d’oeuvre, so we’ll also have those.
Otherwise, it will be cold cuts and football, and a few moments of peace and quiet before reporting to the Santa set on Black Friday morning.
♥ I love this … and have to laugh because it’s so true. Yours truly had to dash out this morning to collect whipping cream and one or two other things that didn’t make it to the grocery list in time
For me, the actual grocery store is closer than any “convenience store”/corner store/whatever word they use to describe such placed in cities (I can see in my mind a character from Law & Order saying it, but can’t hear him)
One Thanksgiving around the mid-eighties, a good friend and I were going to bake a small ham as the main part of dinner. 30 minutes after it went into the oven, the power went out. That was, and is, I’m sure—quite rare in that part of the city. We waited awhile, then with it not back on, headed out to an all-you-can-eat place which was adjacent to our favorite tavern hangout. Ate at the one, played well into the evening at the other. When we went home, the (analog)electric clock was 4 1/2 hours behind, so we knew we’d chosen…wisely.
We never forget butter in this house, but every Thanksgiving of my childhood I remember someone going to the little convenience store on the far side of town for a carton of whipping cream.
QTπ does not have a UTI or pancreatitis. Its neurological.
She is at my vet overnight to stay under observation and get fluids and steroids to bring down any inflammation. Tomorrow after my client in the morning I’m getting her and transporting her to Clackamus to a vet with an mri and a neurologist.
$$$
The overnight is going to cost me $2,000.
The mri alone, much less the Dr., will be $2,300
I applied for and got a credit card for vet offices with a max of $2,200
My boss (BOSS!!!) is going to put $600 on the bill in Clackamus.
I have a little les than $300.
The local Humane Society is going to call my vet in the morning and get her info and see how much they can help with. ?$
Ive got a GoFundMe started, but even if that brings in any help, it’s going to be after the bill comes due, so to speak, these vets want cash up front.
And then, there is no telling what is wrong with her and what it’s going to take to fix it.
The go fund me address is on my profile and at Cleo & Co. I dont know how much of me you will see tomorrow. I’m going to be busy. If you see this let everyone know about this post.Thank you.

I wonder if there’s a tryptophan link for this as well as sleeping*. Or perhaps a tryptophan deficiency the week before.
*I know, I know, it’s been more or less disproven, but I think it’s funnier to pretend.

What good is sitting
And making a list?
Go out and shop today
Enough for a big feast day, old chum
You’ll forget the list anyway
Time for admitting
Your poor brain ain’t got room
To recall all you need today
Thursday’s a holiday, old chum
Remember the cabernet
Go buy the wine
Choose spuds by hand
Go find canned corn
Hard cheese for grating
One more line is aggravating
What good is flitting
Past button mushrooms?
For a healthy side dish mainstay
It’s only one meal that day, old chum
So have a full, thankful day

Assistant Chef Culina: Check.

Culina: Check.
Floof: Cranberries for Goo?
Culina: Uh, I don’t see any.
Floof: That’s a problem. It’s a fair distance to the Cosmo Nursery. And what’s a feast without Cranberry Goo?
Culina: Are there any sources closer?
Sound of Giggling in the Background
Floof: Maybe someone will save the day.
Agnes-Ata: Does someone need cranberries? And maybe cheese?
Floof: How did you know?
Violet-Ifa: We’ll never tell.
Tash: But we’ll hint. Punn State has a lot more than cheese!
