I see Luann didn’t decide to opt for the classic and ever-popular, “I-Didn’t-Know-What-To-Get-You-So-I-Got-You-Something-I-Would’ve-Gotten-For-Myself” option . . . but really, that would’ve been too clever even for Luann.
P.S. This the Sunday strip I saw a couple of weeks ago and thought would be published last week. Don’t say I didn’t warn you guys you wouldn’t like it.
Today’s strip perfectly exemplifies the real “spirit” of Christmas: greed, consumerism, and commercialization! Forget Christianity and the birth of Jesus!!
Speakin of gifts here, th two little curb feeler hairs that useta stick out on Bernice’s forehead are now on Luann. Bernice gave em to her a few years ago for Christmas
Money, some gift cards to food stores and a present to my brother. The gift cards to food stores, to me, are the most useful. Everyone eats. I already gave the laptop to my brother as he had to make an account and I wanted to ensure it worked. Didn’t want the hassle of returning after Christmas. He’ll get some stocking stuffers though on the day.
How disappointing. Luann goes from being such a kind thoughtful person to Mrs. Horner to her inconsiderate, rude self toward her “supposed” best friend (even after Bernice gave her a very inexpensive suggestion). It’s a wonder Bernice doesn’t tell her where to put that sandwich.
Good one, Luann! It’s a good thing Bernice doesn’t drink coffee, with her temper she would become even more nervous and unstable. That’s exactly why I was kinda sure she drank coffee in frightening quantities. Probably Luann will give her both the cupon and the neutral/boring top, but I wonder what Bernice will give her. Hopefully the promise to be a more supportive friend.
At least Luann is being upfront about how she’s planning to give useless “gifts”; usually it comes as a surprise to people. Though it kinda undermines Mrs Horner’s statement the other day about Luann being kind and thoughtful.
Watch the Netflix “Buy Now!” documentary and see if you still want to participate in the consumerism epidemic. Buying moratorium anyone? Homemade edibles are an alternative (just not the ubiquitous fruit cake). :o/
I found a way to completely get rid of gift stress – I stopped celebrating Christmas. What used to be the most stressful time of the year is now a time of relaxing.

Ms. Bernice “I’m living rent-free at the DeGroot house” Halper expects a “gift?”
SERIOUSLY??
“Gift” her with an Eviction Notice,” Lu.

Luann can at least make Berny a name card like she did for her old teacher!

So can Luann not afford to get Bernice the gift or is she just cheap?
Hard to believe it’s already December and X-Mas is just 25 days away.

I can see this exact same strip running when they’re 70 years old. A pair of crotchety old spinsters.

I’ll give you a year’s supply of elephant repellent. But there aren’t any elephants around here. See how well it works?

If that’s all you want, Bernice—maybe you’d be better off buying it yourself.

I’m sure that Greg’s version of Christmas will have, “Made in China” stamped somewhere on the plastic.
