Bernice is right. Luann’s desperately wanting this Blood Drive is because of Phil. Looks like The Fuse idea won’t be happening.

I hate to say this, but I am really against the hypocrisy of confirming the blood bag after I’d already donated it. This practice came out of the AIDS years, which admittedly never went away, but I couldn’t stand giving blood after that,

You can run an ad for the Fuse giving customers a discount for proof of a blood donation. A blood drive truck will gladly park there.

SO Frank to get right to the point as to why the sudden interest in blood donation. Bernice, I am not certain Luann is actually INTERESTED in Phil…she talked to him as Mrs Horner’s transport aide initially about kidney donation which Phil presented with information she found interesting then their conversation moved on to blood donation. There’s not been anything remotely romantic yet. As far as we know at this point is Phil gave her food for thoughts. And Nancy is right. She gotta wait until next Christmas ans given her tendency for fleeting interests, this subject matter will be all forgotten in a few weeks.

Bernice always ruins the moment, but Nancy is right as well. Things like blood drives takes months to plan

Two predictions for the pre-Christmas arc: there will be a blood drive at the Fuse (in the spirit of JFK announcing the Lunar program, we do good thing because they are hard) and Phil will ne an interest. No.matter how much nonsensical hatred for Bern in these comments (makes no sense, she’s a piece of comic fall for so much) a BFF has a pretty good clue as to at least one possible motivation for Lu.

Are we going to find out that Phil is married?

Who knew giving blood was seasonal? I thought anytime that it wasn’t a full moon was good to go.

Perhaps the Sunday or future comic will have Luann and the whole crew at a blood drive with the final panel providing a link to the Red Cross and how to find a blood drive/where to donate.

It is not like the blood bank will be able to schedule an off site blood donation drive on a few days notice or even be interested in such a small location. A better place for the blood drive would be at her community college with hundreds of possible donors or the fire station not a small cafe with < 10 workers and not many more customers.

When did Bernice get so snarky? She’s always been a foil to Luann, but with Phil she seems over the top. I’m hoping this will lead to Luann exploring some kind of health care or caregiving career.

And LuAnn will be first in line to not donate.

I am looking for new place to donate blood so stopped into Donor Center last week. They pay for blood, making me think it probably isn’t going free to patients. Still looking.

Luann puts her hand on Nancy the way a parent would to a child while explaining something (that the child needs to know), a little vexing given that only recently it was Luann all puzzled and confused as Phil was trying to explain concepts of organ and blood donation to her. Now suddenly Luann acts as if she’s the one in control………………..until the mention of Phil.

Good for you Bernice! Put a stop to this phony act Luann has been putting on. If her intentions were honest, she would have donated by now. But nooo….it has to have a kiddie carnival to make Luann happy.

Bernice has been perceptive all week. And correct about Luann’s motivation being Phil.

It’s a plot contrivance. Go with it or wait a few days and we’ll be back to the dorm girls.

Does it really matter what the inspiration is if the effect is something good?

I don’t think the idea of ​​organizing a blood drive is Luann’s way of impressing Phil. Also, the way Bernice suggests it is so annoying that even if it were, it makes you want to say NO just to don’t give her the satisfaction. She really is like a little child. She’s had a great big idea with lots of moving parts and expenses, so her first instinct is to get mom and dad to pay for it all with a vague promise of profit down the line, somehow. And she’s not the one in business school?

I think the food inspectors will have something to say about a blood drive in an eatery.

Nancy opines that organizing a blood drive at The Fuse is too big a task to take on for this year. I think Luann should ask Al Gray for his opinion. Whether or not she does, I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Nancy is going to be proven wrong.

I don’t think that Luann was considering doing the kidney donation just to IMPRESS Phil, but she’s seems to be trying to do a lot to get his attention, anyway. Actually, if she was really wanting to do the donation to impress him, she’s even worse than Brad buying $600 worth of ski equipment in order to impress (at least get the attention of) Diane, over on Luann Againn! Good grief (in both cases)!

It’s nine weeks till Valentine’s Day – they could have the blood drive then and Phil could be Luann’s date for the event. Just a thought.

Whoever said the commenters here hate Luann was spot-on. She definitely noticed Phil, but there were none of the signs of her trying to impress him that we’ve seen in her interactions with other guys. I believe her desire to help people is 95% of her motivation here. She was inspired by Mrs. Horner a lot more than by Phil.

Please write out Bernice. She’s become too arrogant and she wasn’t interesting anyway. She can answer phones at the plastic surgery clinic with Rosa Aragones. I was a psychology major. The first thing they told us was knock off trying to be armchair psychologists.

For someone who supposedly want to be a counsellor or a therapist, Bernice has yet to learn how to shut the hell up.

Oh shut up Bernice! This whole story started because Luann was shaken by Mrs H’s kidney failure, and she had actually gone online and read about the whole thing, and what kidney donation entails. Then Phil came up, told her Mrs H. would never get a kidney from her, and started all the discussion about “hey, since you’d consider losing an organ to save Mrs H’s life, we could also get your kidney and send it into the unknown”. Then when he freaked her out, he suggested blood donation. He did not start this, he merely re-directed.

AND he also basically told Luann that she can’t save Mrs H., so the idea of easily saving other people must be extremely comforting to her right now, even if she hasn’t realized this yet.

Phil just delivered the information. Bernice is commenting on Luann’s response to that information. You all are branding both of them as evil for doing so.

Make it happen Luann, never wait for your family to catch up, it’ll never happen. No one can disrespect you like those closest to you!;-)

I think a blood drive at a restaurant could be problematic, unless you’re able to do it using the Bloodmobile so it’s entirely self-contained. Otherwise you’re going to end up consuming valuable dining room space. I’ve volunteered at mobile blood drives with Scouting (like 20+ years ago), usually hosted at churches. The real estate is substantial; you need 2-3 cots for the donations, at least one recovery cot in case someone gets woozy after, 1-2 little booths with privacy screens for the screening process, a waiting area and a recovery area. Depending on how big the Fuse actually is, this easily fill at least half the dining room, and probably the whole thing.

The Bloodmobile, on the other hand, is a customized motor coach. So you need room to park a bus, a spot for a support vehicle and for Bloodmobile volunteer vehicles, and ideally some indoor space for pre-screening and signups (you could have that inside the Fuse just at one table maybe by the host stand). If weather is nice, the signup table could be outside by the bus; that’s often done because then it’s obvious where people need to go if they want to donate. Businesses that host the Bloodmobile often give out swag or a voucher of some sort as an encouragement; a free dessert, or 10% off an order or something small like that.
