Everyone who writes comments will likely use the “he said/she said” to try to rationalize who made the first move on a possible kiss. But IMO, luann initiated it, she melts whenever any guy flatters her. I think both need to just make out and damn what anyone else thinks. Luann needs to tell gunther how she truly feels and visa versa.

Luann will pull away when she realizes she’s dating Jack and it would be wrong. It’ll be a month before we find out as the writer will start another arc on Monday.

I admit I was disappointed when Luann dumped her Aussie boyfriend for no apparent reason that I could see—although others unfathomably cheered her on when she did so—but after her and Gunter’s past heartbreaks, I hope they do get something going and it works for the both of them this time. I myself am all for the longtime friends becoming lovers bit.

Then Gunther wakes up.

I can’t be bribed, but I’d like to see some offers.

I remember when Greg last teased the two of them getting together. And since he absolutely sucks at providing any sort of follow though or storyline conclusion, it’s just going to move on to something else and this won’t be revisited again. Besides thought she was dating that jock guy?

Okay I don’t gamble because I can’t even when at nickel machines in Vegas or the boats, and then there is the HUGE mistake I make in gambling for my beloved MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY, but I am going to jump off the bridge and say that they do kiss, and they then have to deal with what these feelings really mean. I like Luann with anyone who is good for her, but as I always say Greg is going to do hilarity ensues, and he will pull a Fran Tarkington misdirection play at the last minute, but given this is Valentine’s Day week, and given the build-up I think and Gunther-Luann romance (finally) is in the offing.

I’ve been reading this comic since….2000?? and it is incredible how this is the first time I believe it is going to happen!!! cant wait.

Hey, Hey! I got It! Come Monday, Al looks out the window and once again wonders what in the world All that racket is coming from the Gulag. An Angry Al calls Gunther and demands know what the H3LL all the “Moaning” is about and does he “Need to come over there?” Panel 3 We see a disheveled Gunther (And Luann). Gunther shouts “No!” In Panel 4, It slowly dawns on Al that “Hey! Les is at Work! Who the….,”

And come Tuesday, Tiffany picks the exactly the WRONG time to drop by the Gulag “To give Gunther another Chance.”

This is forced…how are they going to have chemistry right out the back while Jack’s been building that same chemistry for the past year.

Yes, but Luann’s description of Gunther was written as a favor, not from her heart. She’ll recommend Gunther but she herself wouldn’t date him. He’s come far since high school, but inwardly, he’s still the same Mommy’s-boy, pink-shirt-wearing nerd he’s always been.

NOT HAPPY, FOLKS! I mean, I always thought about Lu & Gunther on the back burner, but only that…. the back burner. I truly hope this isn’t a harbinger of things to come… not unless Tiff finds someone else who will treat her just as well as Gunther would. Would be kinda weird if Lu and Tiff swichted Jack & Gunther… sort of like the Nastassja Kinski movie “One Night Stand…” :) Anyway, I think it’s gonna be interesting as to who gets Gunther in the end… It needs to be someone who will treat Gunther right. And, right now, the only one’s who seem to fit that bill are Lu and Tiff. Unless they introduce new “viable” characters, Then I hope those four folks hook up somehow…

Fix him up a bit and his personality makes him a great catch for Luann. He needs to improve his cool factor and fashion sense. So long as he doesn’t let that go to his head, his self confidence should improve.

Let’s see about Monday: 1) If Luann thinks of Jack right now it’s curtains for Gunther. 2) If Les walks in right now it’s curtains for Gunther. 3) It Gunther thinks of anything, anything at all, it’s curtains for Gunther. 4) Gunther and Luann kiss and then Luann writes “dot, dot, dot” in her diary, as they say.

So, after the vote, it’s curtains for Gunther. Three to one.

This is nothing new. When Luann and Gunther were in early, early high school, they kissed. Luann spent the next week telling everybody, even Nancy, how she enjoyed the kiss but wasn’t attracted to Gunther.

We’ll return to ‘Friends With Benefits’ …(?) … after Sunday’s ‘strip’?! Perhaps?! ;)

Well, ok. Close enough. You know in Alaska Eskimos rub noses…although…“— in a nuzzily show of affection. And it’s not done instead of kissing. It’s usually a greeting rather than a romantic overture”. Their facial expressions says it all. I really enjoy the roller coaster ride called “Luann”. Every dip and hill and curve, who can ever expect? Keeps me coming back to ride it again and again!

First there was Rosa, but he could not cope. Next, there was Tiffany and whatever happened after being in the woods while doing a class project. He has feeling for Bernice, who is too hung up on Piro to see how he feels about her, and now this? When did “Luann” turn into “Friends?”

So Monday, back to the Tiffany storyline or Brad & Toni tell the DeGroots about the house code violation?

If it turns out that Luann and Gunther become a thing, it’s been nice reading some of your comments, and I’ll be moving on (and don’t bother telling me to avoid letting the door hit me as I leave. I’m disappointed, because a Luann-Gunther pairing would only mean that Luann would suffer terminal self-hate because she’s not booksmart like Gunther, and he will end up snarking at her just the way Bernice does…)

Since both of them are fairly clueless I’ll be surprised if they admit they more than just care – but I’ll hope…

I wonder what would happen if Luann’s first love, Arron Hill, suddenly came back into her life????

And if you don’t think Evans would use such a hackneyed plot contrivance, need I remind you what happened right after Luann and Quill first kissed? That was the closest I ever came to full-on quitting the strip in disgust.

the yellow (or orange ) circle containing two people and w/ a black background always means there’s something between the two. We’ve had that with Bern and Piro and maybe w/ Luann and Quill a while back. Luann and Gunther both seem to have a look of surprise on their faces in the last panel.

OOPS.

To those who have been hollering NOOOO!!! – and as a suggestion to Team Evans – I say, Why not? “Gunther One-Joke” has been too old for a very long time, the he’s gotten stale (I was rather hoping for for something to start with Tiffany, but that doesn’t seem to be happening), and resolving his issues with girls would be a great way to give the character a seriously needed reboot. What better way to do that than sparks with the girl he’s had the hots for since before the Pleistocene Era?

My post is going to upset some people here, but I’m going to say it anyway. As much as many of us don’t want to see Luann and Gunther together (I sure as hell don’t!), the fact is, Greg has wanted these two to get together practically since the beginning of this strip. Gunther has been longing for Luann for a long time, and since Greg is the creator, he (and Gunther) are finally getting what they’ve wanted all along. It doesn’t matter what we want. It doesn’t matter if we want Luann with Jack; Gunther with Tiffany; exes to come back; or someone interrupting the intimate moment. Unless I’m proven wrong (and I hope to God I am), this eagerly-anticipated (on Greg and Gunther’s part, anyway) pairing appears destined to happen. Greg isn’t going to give us what we want, just like life often gives us what we don’t want.

Face-to-face, nose-to-nose, a light dawns on these protagonists.

Momentous Moment, or is this just another fizzling-out misdirection?

There may be a kiss, but it will not lead to a relationship. Why? Because a relationship either leads eventually to marriage, or it leads to a breakup.

If LuAnn and Gunther get in a serious romantic relationship that lasts, that is the end of this strip. Or it becomes a latter day Cathy.

If they get in a relationship and break up, then it creates bad feelings between two main and beloved characters. Nobody wants to see that. I certainly don’t.
