Okay, I’m going to resist the urge to say that I can see the barest hint of a smile forming on Bets’ face in the last panel.
Nor will I grouse over the fact that it appears that she’s grasping the handle of the teapot in preparation to pour tea.
Now assuming Bets doesn’t pour that hot tea all over Gunther’s head, while “Singing I’m a little teapot,” it appears likely that We’re in for a “Cliff-hanger Saturday” tomorrow. And We won’t hear Bets’ bullsh*t explanation of why she bolted until next week.
Maybe.
But there’s good news.
1) Gunther is already sitting in preparation for the inevitable bad news.
2) And this time, there’s no way Bets can leave Gunther stranded.
OTOH, Second Degree Burns are entirely another matter……, :)
Well, Bets still has her arms crossed. She is closed off and talking only to Tiffany. She is not interested in talking to Gunther. Well, Bets, why are you still sitting? What are you waiting for? Besides an apology from Tiff – which you are not gonna get. Are you waiting for Gunther to apologize for saying the L word and causing your breakup?
Interesting how Bets keep deflecting. For someone who hates Tiffany she sure has only directed conversation towards her. She hasn’t even made eye contact with Gunther, let alone speak
Very tiny smile on Bets’ face in frame 3. Because she’s amused that Gunther doesn’t understand the ‘power’ of oysters, or because she’s deciding to stick with him, or?
“Tiffany,” he says a couple days later “you gave me a dozen oysters when I was there with Bets. But I want you to know that two of those oysters didn’t work!”
A great third frame! Gunther’s well phrased request and Tiffany’s loopy efforts have elicited a slight smile from Bets – likely signaling that Bets knows it’s time for her to come to the table. And Bets is likely amused that her nerdy guy doesn’t know what “oysters” is about.
I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Bets and Gunther will end up still being “a thing” (ref. 2019/06/12). And—what the hey—I’ll go further out on a limb and predict they’ll be ready to celebrate with a romantic dinner at TTFT, Take 2.
I hope they’ll keep their composure if they arrive in their most elegant, swellegant formalwear and find that Tiff has really gone all out with the pirates’ lair decorations.
I think everyone knows about Lucy and the football. She offers to hold the ball so he can kick and every time she pulls it away just to see him fall on his face. Lucy is a very bad person. For the last two weeks GnK has been playing Lucy with us. After Bets dramatically walked away from Gunther without explain, fans of the strip have been wondering why! After a month doing other things they came back to Gunther,. Suggesting that we would finally get answers. But Tuesday the pulled the ball away from us as Leslie bolts for work. , and then again on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A whole week with Gunther getting no closer to re-uniting with Bets. Then, again, last week the football was swiped away day after day as Tiffany butts in. Tiffany who caused the breakup in the first place. And now a whole other week has shoot by without getting any closer to the nut if the matter. This is no longer teasing us for a while this is torture. This is bad writing and bad storytelling. GnK was practically begging people to drop this strip since nothing happens in it for weeks at a time. Greg was better than this.
Kudos on Tiffany for the exits the scen with grace♡.The same capacity as oysters..? This makes me wonder if the feelings Tiffany is trying to stir in them are just romantic. It will be interesting to see what happens if Rose Tea really has that kind of effect on Bets and Gunther.
As I keep saying hilarity ensues, and it’s for real this time. It is a plot device, the whole thing.. No apology, no refund, Gunther goes along with Tiffany’s apple dapple plan and Bets is sitting in the Pagoda of love with oysters.Quite a scene for romance, explanation or??? Like I also have been saying expect misdirection play by Saturday I would guess. I project continued relationship and Tiffany will come out okay as well. Or something that defies all projections..
Again they are taking weeks to do something that should be wrapped up by now. This won’t be resolved tomorrow, then you have a Sunday strip and Monday will be Bernice or maybe Tara for a couple of weeks.
Oysters MAY be an aphrodisiac, Tiffany. But you’re putting the cart WAY before the horse here. IF Betts and Gunther get back together, AND, they decide at some point to take their relationship to that level, it ain’t going to be at this “clear the air, and, possibly resume our relationship” dinner/tea. Besides, do you really want them doing that in your “Pagoda of Peace”?
Come back tomorrow when hopefully Bets will get it through Gunther’s thick skull that she was never interested in romance, she just wanted someone to help her get internet views, and all she wants is her money and an apology.
Ok, it’s settled… the Peace Pagoda is inside the Ferrell mansion. Which is why Tiff has to imitate wind for the tinkling chimes and there are no gnats around the tea.
Well, she unfolded her arms with a small smile at Gunther, now that’s a good sign. The claws are retracted may actually be a glimmer of hope that “The Thing” will survive after all. Good!!! More laughs and awkward Gun-Bets-Tiff moments will keep on rolling…
Everyone has noticed bets’ small smile for Gunther. I notice she is also picking up the tea kettle, so there will be a talk between them. Hopefully, Bets will realize she owes Gunther an apology and explanation a lot more than Tiffany owes her.
Not unlike those Ann Eiffel episodes, the first time we were led to feel sorry for Tiffany, and yet, totally different.
Tiffany really does appear to want what’s best for Gunther.
Enough to give him away.
After a shaky start, my conclusion is, this week, Tiffany was the star.
Also, as far as what Tiffany owes Bets, whoever said it, said it best: No matter how much you scream about the customer is always right, you still ain’t gettin’ a Whopper at McDonald’s. Let’s put it to rest, please!
First thoughts:Lol! Tiffany’s smart enough to take that hint, and leave. Cute.A bit of a smile on Bets’ face at the mention of oysters and she’s about to pour some tea, so it seems she’s staying a while. Will we get “Tea and Sympathy”, “Tea for Two” or “Tea with Mussolini”? Romance, comedy or tragedy?
Now that Tiffany has made her exit, Bets drops the defensive posture, reaches for the romance-inducing rose tea, and has the look of allure on her face. Unless Bets is a sociopath, she needs to provide closure for Gunth (“it’s not you, it’s me”) or confess her undying love for Gunny. If Gun and Bets officially break out, I hope they will keep Bets in the strip.
I’m thinking that while Bets has wanted “space” and distance there may be some things that she has been missing in the process. BTW i wish Gunther had dressed a little more smartly for this event, i.e. he would look great a black turtleneck (the uniform of nerds).
It looks like Bets is going to actually talk to Gunther. I cannot think of any excuse she could give that would justify leaving him in the parking lot at night with no ride and ignoring his calls for several weeks.
In an act of romantic Jujitsu will Bets take Gunther back instead of asking him to take her back after ghosting him for the sin of saying he loves her? Would Bets have ever reached out to Gunther on her own? Will Gunther fail yet another in a long series of failed life tests? Tune in tomorrow for the exciting conclusion to Milquetoast theater.
I don’t think Gunther’s aiming for oysters. After the month Bets put him through, he’s gotta be wondering if he totally misjudged Bets and whether she ever cared for him.
McDonald’s now has competition for the Whopper. The Grand Big Mac! It’s not bad, but I’ll still take the Double Whopper with Cheese. I like their onions.
1. Why she really loves Gunther.2. Why she couldn’t handle and was overwhelmed by his proclamation of affection.3. It will continue for at least another week, with Tiffany being a combination of total jerk and supportive buttinsky.
But I’m going to say something that I think a lot of people may disagree with;
Bets and Gunther need each other. Gunther needs Bets for the love and support he never got as the school nerd, and Bets needs Gunther to help herself understand the realities of people, love, and emotions. This whole plot is making Bets realize that her whole life can’t revolve around technology and being approved by hits on her Twitter page. Her life has to be about real relationships and human connections and human love.
They’re both going through the emotional epiphanies that young adults are SUPPOSED to go through if they want to stop being trapped in the eighth grade forever.
If you want to do anything in your life, at some point, you have to get out of the eighth grade and drop all that nonsense. That’s one of the reasons I NEVER go to my high school reunions. It was a horrible time for me. No point reliving it. I’m not there any more.
Bets just wants Tiffany gone forever. She is so jealous of the relationship that Gunther has with Tiffany. If memory serves, she confronted Gunther about his relationship with Tiffany, and suggested that they were more than just friends.
One more day of this Agony Quest, unless it carries over into next week. As Tiffany takes the hint and exits (See? She can take a hint!), Bets seems to be softening just a little, unless she has in mind unlady-like things to do do with the pot of rose tea.
Will Bets and Gunther reconcile? Would that be a Good Thing?
Uh-oh. Say it isn’t true. Change in posture. Bets is no longer crossing her arms over her chest. There is a small smile on her face. Dang. Could they actually get back together? Gunther, the doormat, shows no sign of growing a pair, and Bets will continue to parade him around on her social media page as her latest conquest.
I love oysters on the half shell! Found a small pearl in an oyster appetizer once. It was tiny – not much nacre – but I had it set in a ring. Anyway, there are no oysters on the table and I don’t think Tiff is bringing any. She was just answering the question of what other food inspires romantic feelings.
Gun’s first question is what saved his bacon for him. It showed that he cares about her feelings first. Gun’s base philosophy showed up again that puts the needs of others ahead of his own out of a need to be there for them.
(This was a reply by computerprogrammer2028 to the third post of the day. It is so good that I am posting a copy.)
