“Gee thanks, Tara! Thank you for costing me my job and saving me from becoming a gainfully employed ‘Teach-Ass.’ From now on, I’ll send ALL My bills directly to YOU! You do have a job, right? RIGHT??” – Luann
I’ll bet the next time a certain redhead wants to go to Utah, you’re gonna let ’em, right Luann? ;-)
Pissy Pay is better than no pay at all! And the most important thing is, she’s doing something she likes to do. Tara is completely out of line. Luann needs to go back inside, apologize and keep her job!
Dragging Luann out of this job without notice may mean that she can’t use the job as a reference for another job. We don’t know if Tara’s ever had a job.
Tara’s trying to come off as a “wanna-be” badass always challenging authority and the system itself. Hey Tara, get over yourself…grow up. Cause this “i hate authority” isn’t doing you any favors.
Greg’s drawing is usually quite well done and not cluttered. I also think Brooke McEldowney’s work is very well done. Brooke shows rough sketches which suggests that he really does the work himself and does not have the help of some computer program. Greg’s work is so precise that I wonder if he also is “hands on” without computer assistance. I also wonder what size format is used for the actual drawing. Maybe 5″ × 6″ or 6″ × 7″ ? Just curious.
Yes. There is a huge risk that it’s too late for Luann… But Tara must try everything she can to save her!!! Tara is probably the only friend who really cares about Luann. She sums up the job of a teacher perfectly as: Stressful, thankless and pissy-pay. She doesn’t want her friend to have a life miserabile like that. It’s time for Luann to understand what she wants to do in her life. Tara will help her, GO TARA! SAVE YOUR FRIEND!
You can actually say “piss(y)” in a syndicated comic strip these days? I guess printed censorship, like broadcast censorship, has gotten far more lenient in this day and age.
But, anyway, what’s up with Tara? She was fine educating the kids on archery (without a live demonstration, obviously), but now she has issues with Luann being an educator? What?
Hmm. Being an educator is a vocation we need. Kids need guidance and positive re-inforcement. Tara is instigating thoughts of doubt in Luann’s mind that she needs to be something different that she is not, and perhaps never will be.
As bad as this looks, no matter how totally out-of-bounds Tara may seem no matter how weak and wishy-washy Luann may seem, Luann has been despairing of the ennui in her life recently, so I think that somehow this will turn out positively all around. Just wait. Luann needs to consider taking some risks. Will the strip be able to deal with it if she does?
Tara coaches archery. That makes her an educator. Please Greg, get someone new to write your storylines. These inconsistencies make it look like you have Alzheimer’s.
This morning was a bit more than what I wanted on a Monday. I came downstairs to the breakfast table and my Uncle Morty and Aunt Toots were engaged in a protracted argument about today’s strip.
My Uncle Morty was so incensed by Tara’s action that he ripped off his shirt at the breakfast table ala Hulk Hogan and my Aunt Toots was upset with him that she is having to buy him another Members Only button up shirt.
Uncle Morty argues “This comic strip is causing me STRESS” to which he jumps up and accidentally flips the table sending my eggs Florentine straight into my face.
We have decided to cut out the comics every morning before Uncle Morty gets up at 4am and leave him with Ziggy and Family Circus (although he has an issue with that one too).
Please make Luann a bit more intelligent so I can resume my normal weekday breakfast activities! Tara either needs to go back to jail or needs to be interesting.
The boss, speaking down to Luann, really set Tara off. His shocked face when she dragged Luann out was satisfying. I think Tara’s reaction is to protect her friend from that nonsense. That guy should not talk to Lu like she is naughty. That is inappropriate. In all my non teaching jobs, I never had a boss talk to me like that, even if I made a mistake.
Tara feels protective, and a little guilty for getting Luann in trouble. Because of that, she overreacted. I don’t think she is as horrible as most make her out to be.
Later, Tara fixes things by convincing Purgus that she’s Cupid. She’s there with her arrows to make the third grade hottie, Ms. Crabtree, fall in love with him. He falls for it and restores Luann to her menial position. Later this causes a sexual harassment complaint to be filed by Ms. Crabtree for unwanted advances by the principal.
Hey! They can’t all work out like Mr Fogarty wedding Miss Phelps!
Being an Educator is a noble & honored profession; BUT, as is becoming evident here, it comes with a load of bureaucratic dung and having to accept petty BS from parents and administrators, and having your love for “The Kids” used as a tool to drag you down and accept your fate.
I expect, nay, pray to the Lord, that this tapeworm of a Tara will get her comeuppance soon and be gone from this strip. I liked Ann Eiffel better, and I hated Ann Eiffel.
Woah! What a statement. It does seem that the world of teachers and educators have become our social preachers. What a a message. Have we lost the heart that should be behind teaching? Have we adopted a downward directional spiral that has build a lost generation? This comic speaks very loud about WOKE-ism.
Tara is a problem here. She shows up at random. The fact is this demo should have been cleared with the front office. Luann seemed to know better at the start. I have done a few demos (Japanese and middle age history) for our local school district in California. They did involve weapons however we cleared our plans with the school and adjusted to their guidance. None of this was done here. I hope Luann come out okay employment wise. Think about the school doe not know Tara from Adam and she come on the school with weapons.
So very true. We have about 6 retired teacher friends and they say the benefits are going bye bye and the discipline in the public schools is totally gone. All couldn’t wait to retire, in a last ditch attempt to get their pension.
Now I can see why Tara was barely hurt when her cousin hit her with her car. Tara has super human strength since she was able to drag Luann out of the school against her will. I hope the principal has called the police by now to report the kidnapping. Luann cannot escape her grip on her own.
I was once called into the principal’s office and asked why I had written 240 referrals in one year. I replied taht every single one was a mandatory write up as per his instructions. I then asked him why the students would, after being called on to have the administration discuss the issue with them, were willing to return to class and repeat the infraction. I asked "Which one of us is not doing their Job?.
I don’t know what Tara’s problems with educators (unless they’re teaching archery?) are, but she’s been more annoying than Shannon. And bossy bordering on bullying. She created this situation. Luann needs to develop a backbone and tell her to mind her own business and leave. Since it’s on,y Monday, this could drag on for days…… ugh
Luann doesn’t appear to be struggling to free herself as one would normally do in this situation. She just tells Tara to let go. I do believe she doesn’t want to go with Tara. Is she afraid of Tara, or has she not learned to stand up for herself? Perhaps during her early years she was disciplined for struggling to get away because it doesn’t seem like Luann is reacting normally.
A semi-mature young woman of 19 or 20 ALLOWED herself to be led, by the hand, from an important business meeting by a fly-by-night fliberty-gibbet with authority issues??? I just don’t buy it!!!! Unless our gal Luann is completely mindless and frankly, mentally disabled (please don’t throw stones here – I’m not picking on ANYONE!) this doesn’t play out as realistic in any form. Nancy and Frank have NOT brought up their daughter to be a patsy and G & K are turning her into cold oatmeal. Shame on them!!!!
Caring Teachers. C’mon, why add more of those in this universe? Tara’s trying to make you over to be….just like her. What more could she possibly ask for?
Tara may not always be right, but she is a catalyst, something wishy-washy Luann desperately needs.
Whether being “saved” from becoming an educator (which might be seen as implying more than just a teacher) is or is not a Good Thing depends on how one views educators (again: as distinct from teachers)….
An educator allowed to truly enlighten the minds of their students should not be constricted by narrow-minded outside observers. Parents, if you want to “home-school” your brood, do so … but don’t rain on the advancement of young people that are learning to be enlightened from the lessons of a truly good educator. `Nuff said …
