What could possibly go wrong with asking parental permission (specially from his stepfather who’s the uncle of his roommate)?

So the truth comes out. Gun and Bets never had a sleepover.

Gunther is being both reasonable and considerate here. If he and Bets are going to have a multi-week sleepover on Mr. Grey’s property they should let Mr and especially Mrs Grey know, But the deal-beaker for me would be having Leslie in the next roomo all during this kanoddling. Better to rent a hotel for the durartion.

Well the booze and the loud music shouldn’t be too much of a problem, but those pillow fights? Even Detective John Munch would get in on that kind of action!

This is the first mention of booze as part of the Luann gang’s lifestyle, Up till now they have been 19 or 20 years old, too young to drink. Has Greg decided to age them to 21 now? Or has Bets a drinking problem?

Bets seems very blase about all this. I wonder how many “sleepovers” he’s had in the past? She’s admitted to having been “cheated on and lied to by enough guys.” How many are enough?

Bets’ patience is wearing thin. Gun should go for one night before asking.

And by the way! Tiffany popped in on Thursday in the midst of the love fest. Where’d she go?

What! Why wouldn’t they care? It’s one thing to go to all the way to a foreign country with a girl and get wasted on a gulp of beer, but them pillow fights can be violent.

I see that Bets likes to get her way without getting permission from others. It is not Gunther’s house or neutral territory. If she wants it so bad, then there’s the privacy hut. I don’t trust Bets and think there is some manipulation going on.

Well, Bets, you could back a few steps and respect that Gunther is mindful of his mother’s feelings. of what he does in her guesthouse. You are being disrespectful when you say “So?” in response to his comment about living in his mother’s guesthouse. Gunther is a gentleman and his mother raised him right. Yeah, he could just sneak around and hope his mother doesn’t catch on, but if that is what you are used to and more familiar with, you ought to hook up with Les. Gunther is not the guy for you.

Leslie Knox was living in Al Gray’s home before he moved to the guest house. Leslie Knox is not paying any rent. Al Gray was Leslie Knox’s legal guardian.

Gunther could make a mountain out of a mole hill, depending on how this goes for Bets and Gunnie. I am sure Irma and Al have met Bets already but this might signal to them a big step in Gunnie’s relationship with Bets. I am curious to see how this plays out. Will Irma offer to have Bets sleep in a guest bedroom in the main house? Will Irma suddenly start thinking about a wedding and grandkids? Gunther probably feels that he has to ask permission and it seems reasonable as Mr Gray did build the house for Les and Gunther. Al might throw his 2 cents in as well but I think the dynamic will be between Bets, Irma and Gunther and we find out if Irma is a bit conservative with her Gunnie or will not mind Bets “shacking up” with her “Gunnie”. This seems to be setting up as Bets thinking of it as a fun 2 week holiday while Irma might be hearing “wedding bells”.

He lives in the guest house but he’s leglly grown if his Luannverse age corresponds to real world legal maturity. I bet Bets ( I know but it’s bound to happen verb-noun like but not a gerund) is right if my reading of the arc is correct, but Al and Irma will insist on dinner in the end. Misdirection plays are likely but it will work out in the end. One set of moralists will be unhappy but it’s Christmas so love is the theme. Kip and Steph represent just what some here decry, lust without real love. Bets and Gunther represent passion of young adults in love. So allergorical.

The girl has no ethics and now she is mocking Gunther because he doesn’t bow to her wants. Trouble, Gunther, cut your losses, and get out of this toxic relationship. You’re on a steep road to Hell. Aren’t there any good characters in this strip anymore?

His mom and Mr. Gray will make three crosses and will say “Finally Gun,… it was about time. We were a bit concerned.”

With ol’ Gunny-Boy, Bets must feel as if she’s teaching a Kindergarten class betimes… at least, when it comes to s*xual/intimacy matters.

Gunther needs permission from a parental authority (the Gray’s) to do it. Irma provided “permission” for Gunther to leave with Rosa on her journey to Peru.

Not only does he need to clear it with Irma and Al but also with his roommate Les. Never mind that Gunther was ONLY asking her to come to dinner.

Les will probably say that he will not mention that Bets was staying there if he can join in the fun.

Al and Irma are very careful to hide it, and have been getting away with it for over a year.

It seems that Bets’ problems with her family cause her to have problems with families in general. She’s right about how absurd it would be if Al or Irma said something against her spending the holidays in Gunther’s room. But that’s still their home and it’s fair to warn them. I really want to know what her family is like for making her dislike parents so much. If they’re really that unpleasant, staying with a positive family for a while could become a lot of good for Bets.

Gunther, how are al and irma going to know bets slept over with you? You don’t HAVE to tell them EVERYTHING.

Does Gun do booze and loud music? Evidently Bets does, so this could be a problem.

I can see it now. Gunther’s mom will be ok with it as long as Bets or Gunther sleeps in the main house and the other in the guest house. Of course anything you could do at night can be done the rest of the day too, so the sleeping arrangements don’t always keep sex from happening.

I’ve never had a coed sleepover either. The closest I’ve had was my cousins and my sisters friends.

You would need to ask your landlord for permission to have someone else move in permanently, but not for a friend to spend a couple of weeks there. Since they are his parents it would be courtesy to tell them… but no need to ASK them.

Bets, it’s a thing called RESPECT, he’s living in THEIR house and should check with them before bringing in floozies.

Gunther, RUN, there are more red flags here than at a hooker convention.

One possibility: this winds up with something dorky, like his Mom saying that a holiday sleepover is a great idea, so she invites all of his friends, and she and Mr. Gray stick around to chaperone. Gunther gets distracted from Bets by having to make snacks.

So is he afraid his mom will disapprove or approve too much ?

I think Bets is being very much the alpha here and pushing Gun to be a bad boy, disrespectful and not really Gunther. I don’t like her at all.

Doesn’t Gunther already have a roommate?

She’s awfully pushy. Gunther has every right to respect that fact that his mom and stepdad have provided his home. AND he should ask his roommate.

“So?” Bets’ comment and sarcastic smart a$$ response tells me she has no clue, or respect, for the repercussions her actions may cause other people (which is typical for most teens now-days). If Irma and Gray say they prefer he does not have a female sleepover, for whatever reason – the imposition on Les or their personal feelings about pre-marital sex, I get the feeling she is going to push back on Gunther. He is actually the one who is correct on this and being considerate, but we might even get to see her challenge him on it tomorrow. I hope he suggests that she rent an apartment where they can play house and have all the personal freedom she wants.

The more she’s around, the less I like Bets

Guest House? I thought Les’ Uncle had that place especially built so Gunther’s mother could have him nearby, without actually living with them. Les was added just because. So, would you ask your landlord if you could have your girlfriend sleepover? As for Les, I hope Gunther remembers the signals Les told him to look out for IF Les every got “lucky.”

What about Les?

All of this summer and autumn (northern hemi), we’ve had an undercurrent of sex, in this strip: Brad and Toni’s ongoing conversation, Stef and Kip’s shennanigans, and now Bets’ efforts at escalation. The Evans are strongly foreshadowing a baby, in the future. It may take until 2023 to arrive, given how slowly time moves in the strip, but we are right now at a point where it might be fun to establish a bit of betting odds. (Hey, online betting is legal in my state).

It won’t be Kip and Stef. They are both likely there on scholarships, and a pregnancy would torpedo her’s, pretty quickly. Stef’s probably on the pill.

Brad & Toni remain the most logical scenario, but remember the times in which we live, and the California in which this strip is set. An interracial couple does check a few “woke” boxes.

Given the trend towards exploring “woke” topics, and the fact that a lot of humor can be mined from it, my money is on Bets getting a pink plus sign. I have a feeling that we’ll have a strip with a (lights out) dark final panel shortly. Perhaps Saturday.

Not sure just how to react to this. Betts has always been manipulative and even pushy; now there seems to be a disrespectful sarcasm seeping in. This is going to be an interesting week, if nothing else.

This brings up some of the major issues of literally living in your mother’s back yard (because she’s so possessive she can’t bear to have him any farther away, which of course doesn’t explain the Peru jaunt) with your stepfather paying the rent. If Gunther moved to an apt. of his own that he was paying for he wouldn’t have to ask permission to have a house guest, or worry that his mother might be upset that it’s a lady friend.

Those pillow fights can be destructive.

Gunther doesn’t work. I’m sure he got a scholarship, but where does his money to live on come from? Is his mom paying his expenses? Is Bets cutting him in on the webcast profits? If he’s living in his mom’s house and getting an allowance, she deserves to know if he’s in a relationship that might jeopardize his education or make her a grandmother. Time for these two to decide if they want to make the changes that would give them more personal freedoms. Either way, this went from doing something nice for his mom for Christmas to something that is going to totally mess up Christmas. Why do people have to rock the boat during the holidays?

Gunther is a grown man. Technically speaking, anyway. Asking permission to have Bets stay over is childish and unnessecary. Letting them know she will be their is courteous and expected.

I knew it! Gunther has never had a “sleepover” before! Bets is not a good choice for his first time. Someone like Bernice would be a much better choice. Bets will be too wild and scare the poor guy.

And, for the person earlier who suggested people hate Bets because she is a POC… please take your race-baiting and hit the road. Bets is thouroughly unlikable because she is pushy, jealous, stubborn, inconsiderate, selfish, greedy and punishes Gunther for the mysterious sins of “other men”. Any one of those traits are valid reasons to dislike a person and would you looky there? She has them all. So beat it with your desperate atrempt to bring race into a place where it isn’t.

Gunther, your an adult. You don’t need to ask mommy if someone can stay over. It would be different if you lived in the same house, but you don’t.

Bets came up with the idea of moving in with Gunth over the holiday break so she wouldn’t have to spend the holidays alone. I get that.

But what about Les?

He and Gunther live in the same house. That IS Les’ HOME! He shouldn’t be expected to have to move out or be inconvenienced just so Bets can have her way.

As for Irma, well, I don’t know how much she cares what the neighbors think, but while she may not make a fuss about her son having his girlfriend over for a single night, she may hesitate about letting a young female live in a very small house with two young males for a couple of weeks.

The near-nekkid pillow fights might at least arouse Gunther’s interest.

The look on Bets face says it all. Don’t corrupt one of the good ones Bets. Gunth, wait for the right woman.

‘sleepover’ sounds like language used by young kids. If Gunther was living under the same roof as Irma, I could understand but this is Les and Gunther’s place; it would be more appropriate to ask Les if he would mind. Essentially, G is asking his mom for permission to sleep w/ Bets. I’ll bet Irma will just say …“Gunthie it’s your call not mine; you are an adult; make your own decisions”….

I don’t have much hope for that, but the racism, intolerance, judgement, anti-female attitudes (even by fellow females) detract from the true enjoyment of that development, plus gets the hell in the way of hilarity ensues. Will I stop calling it out? Nope. But I will try to be as civil as I can be while I do so. Love everyone in spite of the normal human nature being so manifestly shown.
