Is Ox’s face getting smaller or is his head getting bigger? All I know is that something looks really off with him, especially in the second panel.

So Tiffany, a waitress who makes minimum wage plus tips (if any), wants to hire her friends / coworkers for half of twenty dollars an hour ($20 being the new $15) What a cheapwad especially since she’s getting rents without having to pay for anything. She could easily afford to pay them a fair wage from just the first month’s deposits.

And of course Greg has totally ignored all issues of licensing a business, insurance, liability coverage, how to security all that property and binding contracts for the storage.

Since this story will probably continue into next week, I wonder if Daddy Ferrel is going to surprise come home and wonder what all that junk is doing in the garage.

Why does she need movers? She should make it ‘self storage’ so people move their own stuff.

Now all she has to do is hire a truck and tell her Dad’s insurance company that he’ll need extra liability insurance in case anything is stolen or damaged.

Tiffany… I could understand fooling Les, but poor Ox!

In real life math comprehension, a fast food burger joint put out a 1/3rd lb burger. It failed because people thought 1/3 is smaller than 1/4!! Of course with the NEW new math, it may be!!

I think Ox just noticed the math wouldn’t work.

Ox may be slow, but he’s already figured this out at $11/hr each.

This strip has made me have to post something as an educator, albeit one who works in the sciences and not math!

I teach at a community college here in Florida: chemistry (general and organic with an occasional nursing chem with the associated labs). For the entry level lab courses I always give the students a short one page quiz on the first with simple math problems involving some multiplication, long division, as well as simple percentages and fractions. The exercise never has anything outrageous that would require a calculator or my Dad’s old Raytheon slide rule ;) . The students are supposed to have adequate math skills before they take any entry level chemistry course so I always put that to the test and the results have begun to amaze me.

The students usually grin, thinking the test is cake until I tell them they CAN’T use a calculator or electronic device. Some kids nail it but others flame big time, the ones that fail always give me an angry look like I pulled a dirty trick but I am trying to teach them an important lesson. The moral, learn to do math the old school way, know it by heart or at least figure it out on paper, never rely on something else to do what should be common sense.

I think I like Tiffany more and more all the time!

Geez Les never take up your mom’s criminal profession; grifting. One thing a grifter is very good at is counting money, and you fail here hilariously. Nice to see Ox, but as usual he is kind of passive, although if necessary he can move quickly, mentally as well as physically, except here.

Clearly this strip was drawn DECADES ago. The movers I just paid (2 guys and a truck) were TWO HUNDRED an hour!!!

Tiff needs a pet malamute at the storage area in the mansion. She can call it a warewolf.

A math problem first thing in the morning? Honestly though, next week this could get really complicated and funny! She already has people bringing their stuff to the dorm instead of to the house, and she’s lining up moving men – who she will need TWICE because they will have to take everything back to the dorm in the fall. Maybe Tiff and Kip will have to partner up to handle Steffi’s mess?

Friends ask me to help move things all the time and they offer me… free pizza and beer. $11/12 an hour is very generous for helping a friend move stuff.

I thought Tiff was struggling with the business part of school. Guess not. Score. And Les will probably take most of it and Ox will get zip.

what will papa Farrell think about this? yet, there are enough rooms and spaces in that house that she could start a storage business without Tom even knowing about it especially since he’s out of town much of the time.

All the folks who’ve been thinking that Ox is dumb can now revise their thinking. Ditto the ones who thought Les wasn’t.

This is why these sorts of agreements should be written.

It may be that Tiffany will become a successful businesswoman but I would never want to work for or do business with her.

I’m surprised that Les is so slow at rudimentary arithmetic. Puts one in mind of the story recently that the A&W’s new ⅓ lb hamburger wasn’t able to compete with the standard ¼ lb burger because the innumerate customer base reasoned that since 3 is less than 4, it must have been a smaller product.

Alas, and I understand that there are teeners and “young adults” who don’t know how to read a clock dial. . . . Everything is going to the demnition bow-wows, I say.

My first job pair 25 cents/ hour hauling stuff and watering plants in a gardening center. Long time ago but even then I chucked it in after a week. My second job three years later was as a Radio/Radar Tech for $2.18/hour. Co-workers were raising families on that income. It was a lesson in the importance of having marketable skills.
