Respectfully, Elvis, I disagree. The door to Narnia is anywhere you’re not expecting it. When you look for it in a wardrobe, it isn’t there. When you run through a gate in the back of your school just to get away from the bullies, that’s when you end up in Narnia.
O.T. – John update: the thyroid test show no change, praise God!! A friend recommended a physical therapist for his pain issues so he’s seeing one tomorrow night. Both Diane and John are very grateful for your prayers and positive thoughts. Thank you!!
The first thing I usually think of is something to do with the Underground Railroad. (I’m from Indiana. There was a lot of abolitionist activity and several houses near mine had been Underground Railroad safe houses.)
Thank you to those above for explaining the reference I didn’t get. My worst fear would be an Annabelle situation, where they just find a doll sitting in the center of the room, unleashing the evil that caused it to be sealed away in the first place. I am glad we as a society have allowed Halloween to creep into August, because I am just ready.
We have a closet we call the Narnia Closet! In the book, once inside the wardrobe (which is a closet in the form of a piece of furniture), there is no second door, they just keep going further and farther behind the coats. Before we were flooded, our closet under the stairs stopped behind the hanging coats. While replacing walls and floors after the flood, we had the closet extended to use the space under the stairs. Now there is space for all the cat carriers, in case a quick evacuation is needed, and many other items as well.
I love The Secret Garden reference. Even more than discovering the garden, I loved Mary trying to explore the mansion and discovering locked rooms and passages and then at night hearing mysterious screams from somewhere in the house.
Yesterday evening I got to finally meet our Patroness, Georgia (and the rest of the humans in the family) at one of her “Meet the Author” talks at a branch of the King County Public Library. I had to ask her something I’ve seen asked here: Will there be a 2023 BCN Calendar? Hooray, there will be, and she is working on it now!
Also—I asked about Swan Eaters—she will be continuing it to its conclusion. It’s about 2/3 complete now, so we’ll get the remaining third when she’s able to get to it.
No surprise, Georgia is a delightful person, Ryan’s a Good Guy, and the kids are good kids. I’m very very happy I was able to do that—got there some early, so was able to chat with her more than I’d perhaps expected, and I’m still very ‘up’ about it.
Gosh – I think I need to agree with Puck today. I’d much rather either Lupin or Elvis were correct, though. Either of those scenarios would be wonderful …
For the less well-read, this may be a “where’s Door Number Two” situation. I must see what is behind Door Number Two, even if we have to make it out of cardboard, flashing lights and sound effects.
For American game show enthusiasts, one door is never enough. :)
Lou went back to the vet’s this morning to get his nails clipped & his chip put in. This time sis was ready for him – she spiked his dinner last night & his breakfast this morning with gabapentin & added a little tuna water (which he loves) so he’d eat it up. She’d bought him a clear “space helmet” & took that along for them to try if needed, but they didn’t need it after all. The whole visit lasted all of 15 minutes & sis says, “I didn’t hear any cat screams coming from the back.”
Back home again, he’s still “dazed & confused” & is taking no chances with the Law of Gravity by getting up on the cat tree! He’s staying on the floor, “wandering around looking at stuff…like the decoration on the front door had him mesmerized for a while.” Ooohhh, shiny… . 8-D
Last night I met an elderly couple who rescued a turtle from the trash 17 years ago. They have a 20-min “good night” routine with the turtle, who can’t sleep otherwise, and don’t travel anymore because the turtle doesn’t feel safe with babysitters. They call him “lil snuggles.”

It is easy to ‘pick’ locks. Learned that from a lock smith who had to unlock a couple of 100 year old locks. No more getting trapped in a room.

Beatrixia: Hi, ladies. I hear you’re having a quilting bee.
Sophititi: Yes. Like to join us?
Beatrixia: Great! Now I can be a quilting Bea!
Maat-Tilda: I understand they found more gold and gems at the Very Good Pyramid.
Sophititi: Yes. I wonder why everyone was so obsessed with those things back then.
Calliope: They are pretty to look at.
Bea: And they can be used to make lovely works of art. Still, I hope they find more scrolls.
Kira: I have heard of a legendary sitting room where people would go to have a cup of coffee and read scrolls to their heart’s content.
Adobe Style: Iron Glove has been doing research on furniture design.
Bea: Maybe the legend is more than a myth.
Adobe: Yes. Maybe there is truth to the Comfy Chair.

When people keep on stalling
But you wise cats are allied
When old plaster keeps on falling
And you can’t seem to get inside
Let your shove open the door
Be a love and open the door
Cat above, please open the door
Break it apart
