YAY!! GO GUNTHER!!!

Really nice to see Gunther finally growing a spine. I like the look on Les’s face in the 3rd panel, too. He was not expecting that.

So just what is Gunther going to say to Al and Irma??

Way to make Gunther take the initiative, Bets.

I just hope he’s angry at the right people, his parents.

I seem to recall that Gunther proposed to Bets and she turned him down. So if anyone is ‘ruining’ their life together it’s her. She’s manipulative, self-absorbed, and he could do much better. And he’d better watch out that their extra activities don’t suddenly turn up on a new blog or whatever of hers!

Is Gunther about to have sex out of angry or because of love. Or is he finally leaving the Gulag? Since it’s long past time for him to leave the Gulag I would say he isn’t leaving. G&K always disappoint. And something will happen to keep him from having sex.

What will Gunther say to his mom?“You have to respect Bets. She is my girlfriend and you need to be polite and genteel with Bets, just as you do with any of my female friends.”OR“Bets is my girlfriend and Tiff is just a friend and yet you allow Tiff to stay with Les and me but forbade Bets. That is a huge hypocrisy there. Either you allow Bets move in with me or we both go.”OR“I don’t appreciate your rudeness toward Bets because you have your own reasons for disliking Bets and haven’t shared with me what these reasons are. Is it racism? Is it our relationship status since it implies that we are sexually active, and you couldn’t stand the very idea of it? I am not your little boy anymore. I rather like #3. The first two make Gunther sound immature and Irma would see that. This being Luanniverse, the first two are likely.

Well done by Les! Drum roll for tomorrow’s episode. Maybe Gun should go out and buy a ring for Bets – and then approach Mom. Note Irma is still using “Gunthie.” Hard to believe Gunther hasn’t asked Mom to stop using “Gunthie” in front of others.

was going to leave it alone, but the promiscuous insinuations by a few here about Bets here, including Gunther finally being able to confront his mom (All is secondary here) is more revealing about them than it is about the arc. But this actually not a plot twist, rather a very well setup plot development. Les sets up his frenemy (who is a close friend actually, somewhat akin to Brad and TJ in broad story based outline form, sarcastically implicating to Gunther his “mommy’s” inability to give up her Gunthie, putting the issue in sharp focus for Bets who sets the connective tissue about the importance of "their relationship in his mind (and heart), who then pulls the trigger; defending his woman. I love the third panel although the drawing does not make it clear which hand, left or right, Gunther-no longer Gun(ther) as Gunther is finally acting like a man about to confront his MOM. Or as IX more pithily put it, “Gunther’s growing a spine.” So, we have that confrontation to savor coming up. Les is pleased, did good guy! Of course, will Les finally have a spine and tell Tiff she must vacate, or is there yet another plot twist coming? And some people say boring. No wonder Gunther-Bets storylines get so much response, I just hope most can get to the story, not to their hate and bile toward one character. By the way, Feb 14 is fast approaching. Las Vegas wedding in offing?

We can see what his near term goad is

Gunther throws Bets out the door, Tells Les were to go. And the next day joins the USMC. That’s it with the BS from the kids.

He’s beginning to act like a man.

I wish he had not needed to be goaded into defending Betts. Betts facial expression is surprised and hopeful to me. She had been the bottom of the totem pole. And I agree with those who felt Irma’s behavior smacked of racism, and I think the writers meant it that way.

Les is, in his bizarre way, the wingman of this couple, he seems pleasantly impressed by Gunther’s confidence while Bets seems scared. I don’t think she wants to be the reason for a big fight between Gunther and his mother, even if the problem exists and is important. I also don’t think she wants to have sex with Gunther just to confirm that, to him, she is more important than other women. Whatever Gunther does now could be a disaster or a big thing and I love that!

Wasn’t Gunther married once and brother Chucked right out of the strip to South America?

Uh, oh…

Where is Gunther going? To see Al and Irma? To the dorm? Have a private conversation away from Leslie Knox?

Or Gunther Berger is going to break up with Bets or end his relationship with Tiffany? Or maybe go back to Peru?

Gunther lives in a rent free furnished apartment with a stove and a fridge?

Don’t let Les be that little voice of ruin. But this could go several ways. Too many characters are acting against their normal behavior. Looks like the Evens’ are acting “edgy” again.

Gunther is finally realizing that his parents can’t tell him who he can and can’t love! Bets is his woman, whether they like her or not! True love is blind and Gunther has found someone who loves him. They should be happy for him!

Don’t be so sure of what the final panel implies. It could mean el dumpo.

It probably means that we’re gonna have a woke moment, IMHO. The difference in the parental attitudes towards Bets and Tiff is night-and-day-obvious.

I know I certain rank Bets below all the listed people. She has to passive-aggressively complain to his face instead of communicating earnestly.

Good for him. BTW, to that poster Chatty Fan who called Greg and his daughter Racists, they need to take legal action against you. Chatty Fan should be sued for slander.

So Gunther is determined to do this because of his mother. I’m sure this will be not only magical, but also extremely scarring for them both.

I know where my mind is having Gunther lead Betts. (Since when does Gunther go all cave man?) But it could be that he’s taking her to talk with Al, and, Irma, to get Tiffany out, and, Betts in.

Les appears to have motivated Gunther, but I’m not sure how much good it will do. Al and Irma have the right to make rules for their guest house the same way they have the right to make rules in the main house. The guest house is not a rental property. If their rule is no sexual partners allowed to stay overnight, then they don’t know the meaning of afternoon delight! What Gunther can do though, is call them out on how they treated Bets at dinner.

AND Gunther is angry Again. It is sad that he could not stick up for Bets when the rude behavior happened. He only reacts when Les goads him into anger. Gunther should have acted in the moment and stood up to Al and Irma when they mistreated Bets at dinner.

I wonder who else Bets thinks she ranks below. She had at least one more on her list.

I don’t know what I love more. Les using reverse psychology to help Gunther and Les solidify their relationship further or Gunther taking the bait (as well he should have). Les has been more and more of a team player lately. I’m proud of the boy!

Where is Airmen, flyboy I nickname him? This arc would be right up his alley, I hope he is okay, I miss flyboy.

Go Gunther…..

IMO, this is just stupid manipulation of Gunther by BOTH Les and Bets. They are both simply taunting him to act out. To me this arc has grown very annoying:

1. The ISSUE was that Tiffany was overstaying her welcome. That appears to no longer be a concern.

2. The second issue was that Irma was rather rude and slighting towards Bets.

3. So, Les and Bets now are goading Gunther into making a stance about letting Bets live there with them (romantically with Gunther) when in reality both Les and Gunther are GUESTS…. non-paying, non-self sufficient youngsters…… not really performing day-to-day life as adults.

What THEY should do, is:

1. Address the actual issues…. Tiffany & Irma’s attitude about Bets. Those are the problems.

2. Whether Gunther and Bets should or should not live together is a whole different matter. To make it their “stance” is just hyperbole and side-stepping the actual issues.

3. And, if Gunther and Bets DO decide that they want to live together, they should do so in an ADULT fashion…. by paying their own way as adults. They should not be kids (youngsters) playing “house” on Al and Irma’s dime. That is NOT adult behavior.

Three days left. Is Gunther mad at Bets? Or is he mad at his mom and Mr. Al? We will find out tomorrow!

I don’t agree with how Irma and Al treat Bets, because she is Gunther’s girlfriend and they should at the very least be respectful to her as a human being. And I don’t agree with them allowing Tiffany to stay because she’s “just a friend”, either no girls allowed period, or both girls allowed. But either way, I just want Bets gone. She’s not good for Gunther because she doesn’t actually care about helping him grow. She just drags him outside his comfort zone for her own benefit, not his.

The suspense builds…but first, let’s go back to Luann and her romance novel.

Wow! What an emotional conglomeration! Great facial expressions. Les knows how to push Gunther’s buttons better than Bets. Gunther doesn’t want to be labeled as weak. I have no doubt Bets’ feelings are true and seemingly so. It will be interesting to see if Gunther’s determination and bravery last the week in face of Mom and Mr. Grey.

Readers in Missouri and Florida must be having fits of hysteria and outrage from the minute Les said “Sex.” And the double entendre of Gunny marching off with his woman in hand. Yes, they’re heading to a confrontation with Mom, not the bedroom — but then what? Hearts are all atwitter!!

Gunther going into a discussion angry will probably make NO ONE happy. Irma’s going to feel like Bets turned her son against her, Bets may get a worse impression of Irma, and Gunther might resent his mom for not allowing Bets to live there cause. We know Irma sees Gunther living with Bets under her roof as non-negotiable. The only solution might be Gunther moving out, which would do nothing to make Bets and Irma get along.

If Gunther demands they kick Tiffany out so that Bets (who we know already has a place to live) can stay, that’d be really upsetting for Tiffany who finally met adults who treat her with the paternal affection her own parents never gave her. Personally, I could see Tiff breaking off her friendship with Gunther over that.

First the bedroom. Then, a week later, after they finally emerge from the bedroom, they might hobble over to the main house to confront Irma and Al. Of course, they already know because in their haste, Greg forgot to draw the shade on Gunther’s bedroom window, and, as per the situational plan of the Gulag to the main house, Gunther’s bedroom is in direct view. Al and Irma have not watched television all week.

We’re gonna SCORE tonight!

After scanning through 217 comments, there’s no clear consensus as to which direction Gunther and Bets are going: 1. Back to Al and Irma’s where Gunther stands up to them about the way they treated Bets or 2. To the bedroom where Gunther lets Bets know in no uncertain terms how much she means to him? I originally thought they were heading to the bedroom, now I’m hoping they’re going back to Al and Irma’s to have it out with them. If so, it won’t be accept us or I’m moving out. It will be more along the lines that “Bet is my girl friend and I don’t appreciate the way you’ve been treating her. And, I’m glad you like Tiffany, but it’s time for her to move on, now that her arm has healed.”

Wow. Just…wow. My assumption is that Gunth and Bets are headed over to the main house to tell the parents that they are an item, and that’s the way it is. How that impinges on their ability to stay in the house, who knows? But I think it’s heading for a confrontation, finally.

We will never get to see the conversation between Gunther and Irma. Just the after talk about how great he was.

Guenther takes matters into his own hands. USE PROTECTION GUENTHER!!!

And a side note, we keep returning to sex and eroticism in a family newspaper / comic strip.
