I just adore her nope nope noped, all the way home.. this lil piggy went to play in the snow. followed by a cup of kitty hot cocoa and a snuggle with HER boys. not to mention her lil feeties with TOE BEANS!
Ora Zella has just learned the 5-Second Rule: after lying on the snow covered ground for 5 long seconds, she needs to warm up with fuzzy blankets, furry friends, roaring fire, and a mug of hot chocolate big enough to soak in.
Those mugs of cat-cocoa look like they are topped with whipped cream. If there were a fifth panel, I would expect to see a white mustache on Ora Zella’s face, lol!
I have seen young cats first encounter with snow before. The usual reaction is step in the snow, shake their paw, step again, act disgusted, go back in the house.
One time, Snowball had the zoomies and I opened the front door for the FedEx guy. She ran straight out into the snow, stopped, looked around, then straight back inside and curled up next to the heat vent and licked her feet. Normally, they hesitate when the door is open, but this time, there was NO FEAR!
Our little Pk started as a feral, the 1st 4 years of her life was spent outside with the others ferals on our property. We provided them with a heated box, which she ignored, still don’t know how she survived 4 bad upstate NY winters, She lived on cheap canned food and kibble and whatever she killed, which was a lot, including a poor little male cardinal whose red feathers we saved. I remember a particularly bad blizzard when she was 6 months or so. In almost whiteout conditions, she chased a laser pointer all the way across our snowbound, frozen parking lot. I was entertaining the inside cats with, she was right on that dot and didn’t care how cold or how much snow was in her way. After a few seconds I felt guilty for making her do that, honestly, I didn’t think she would follow it that relentlessly. Now she hates winter and is content to be my shoulder buddy here in the office when I am working at home
Ora Zella’s mug is so nearly horizontal that I worried it would spill. But you know what? I think it is just a mug full of whipped cream. Mmmmm! Also, IYFRTB!
I grew up on a farm in Iowa, most of our house cats were allowed out whenever they wanted out. I remember our part Siamese male LOVED being outside and watching him bound across the snow to get in when it was cold was adorable.
There’s three inches of snow overnight as predicted. It’s supposed to stop snowing today. The way I like snow – short and sweet Cannonball looked outside and stayed in. No adventure kitten anymore, that C’ball.
There’s the Ora Zella we know, taking full advantage of the different forms of star-shaped locomotion. Hopefully she did not eat any snow before she noped home.
This is the 33rd Valentine’s day I have spent with Marie.
The first one was, shall we say, a train wreck. I didn’t realize we needed reservations for dinner on this particular day (insert dumb guy joke here). So after figuring out that we couldn’t get in anywhere, we ended up eating White Castles by candlelight at her apartment.
The next ten Valentine’s days were okay; I learned my lesson from the first one and made my reservations in August.
Valentine’s was a shared holiday when the kids arrived in our lives. Different vibe, but still a lot of love.
The 18th Valentine’s was when Marie got really sick for the first time. Eight weeks in the Hospital and twice as long of a recovery made this Valentine’s special.
The next ten Valentines were okay, with the usual trials, tribulations, and curveballs you get from life; the kids grew, and our business had ups and downs. Arguments about money, the company, the kids, the designated hitter rule…you know…life. Love changes as you get older. The “we-can’t-keep-our-hands-off-each-other” style of love morphed into the warm glow of having that special person always there in your life.
Then Marie got really, really sick last August. I wondered if there was going to be another valentine’s with my co-collaborator, partner, and best friend. But, through the miracles of modern medicine, the support of our friends here and there, and Marie’s Extremely stubborn Irish personality, she is still with me.
I am stubborn, opinionated, think (knows) I’m always right, guy. And despite all that, that woman still loves me.
What do you give your Valentine in France? I big quiche! (Ora Zella is so cute today, I want to put her in a quiche and eat her all up… not really, but you get the picture.)
At least she got to play a little before deciding it wasn’t for her. The end shot though of all the v’day decorations and the cats all snuggly warms the heart though. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Had a cat that tried to sneak out. Did it one very snowy, freezing January morning. Got to the end of the porch, turned and ran back in. I held the door for her. Never tried to get out again. Big nope!
Yeah, that’s pretty typical of a cat. Think they want to go outside super badly until they get out the door and realize it’s actually super cold and wet, and then, go figure, suddenly start singing a different song. :P
I was just looking at the cover of the new book more closely and I see there are two robber mice on it (I think Violet and Natasha) and a number of mouse sized books.
I see Lupin is still pinkish! Nice color for the season:) Thanks for the update someone…I just preordered the Beatrix book; had no idea it was even in the works!
In our first winter in our current apartment, we got snow. As I opened the back door to take out the garbage, Penny zipped past me and onto the lawn. She froze for a moment, eyes wide, and then loped back inside the apartment. I took a picture of her footprints – deep little steps going out, lengthy strides coming back! Definitely “noping it” back home. :) Ora Zella’s so lucky to have hot chocolate waiting!

I understand Ora, but I enjoy walking alone in the fresh fallen snow. Particularly at night. The world is so quiet and peaceful.

Irving Berlin: I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm
Outside it’s storming, with snowdrifts forming
And I’ve been out in the storm!
Nope, not for me, I’ve got my friends to keep me warm!
…….
Been outside, done that, the kids in their hats
And I’m all dressed in my star!
It’s cold and wet, a nope for me
I’ve got my friends to keep me warm!
…….
Off with my star suit, onto the couch
Bring on the cocoa, it tastes so good now!
The snow is storming, I’m in here warming
I nope my way out of the storm!
Now for a cup of hot cocoa and my friends to keep me warm!

There she is
Looking just the same as she did last time she touched snow
And there they are
Snuggled close in one bright star Valentine glow
Don’t you love her?
As much as they love her?
Warm’s where she belongs
When snow feelings start to stir
Looks like she made it
Left her safe home on the way
To bonkers of nope
Looks like she made it
No need for snow today
Feels the sweet love there everywhere
And sips hot cocoa the way the Woman made it
