Well I saw it coming yesterday. Karen is leading us to a crisis point of some sort. I doubt if it is a split up. Perhaps a confrontation with Al and Irma. Perhaps moving out into a venue where they don’t have to be secretive and are able to operate more independently.

It doesn’t look like Les will have any appreciable part in the arc.

That didn’t take long.

Smartest thing anyone in this strip has said in weeks.

The writing and dialogue this week has been superb! No matter what you think of the characters or story line, “Luann” has some of the best writing and drawing on the virtual comics page!

At least she realizes it time to leave.

Looks like Bets has realized her living situation isn’t as satisfying as she thought it would be.

I wonder if she’ll now apologize to Tiff and ask if she can stay at the Manse?

There will be plenty of room for Bets and Gunther at Tiffany’s place. They can even have their own rooms in the Manse.

Finally, the time has arrived to end their silly rebellion against The ‘Rents. Now we’re going in different directions on where they will go. My bet is they will beg Tiff to take them. Then the whole summer Bets and Tiff will scheme on how to hook Kip for Tiff.

Just show viewers how you spend your off-cam hours. Snuggled on couch, staring at the ceiling, telling stories of the events of your life, your dreams of the future, things like that.

Take the revenue and book a trip to Peruvian mountains? Or maybe goto Australia?

Bets is the first to admit that the situation she had chosen is not going as she hoped. For the first time we see her admit defeat. It’s admirable, better than dragging out a situation that was no longer bearable all summer. Dunno if this is just Bets admitting she was wrong or the beginning of her breakup with Gunther, maybe seeing their limits will be good and their relationship will come out stronger than ever. Or this will really lead to Gunther going to Tiffany for advice.

Does the last panel mean that Bets wants to leave Gunther? Or that she’s just tired of all the sneaking in and out, and it’s time for Gunther to “man up” and confront his insufferable parents and leave the gulag for good??

“here’d out” agree, the commentors who have been hinting and nudging Bets back to the Manse seem to be closer to that happening.

Why don’t Bets and Gunther get out of the house for a day, this isn’t like they are sealed in a Mars or lunar simulation habitat and are locked in for the summer! Go do something, have an adventure. Not sure if Gunnie can get a weekend pass from Al and Irma but maybe a road trip is in order to revitalize the relationship. Perhaps they can invite some of their friends (Tiff, Les, Ox, Luann, etc) to come along.

I suspect that Bets moving out is more like moving on.

I’m trying my best to immerse myself in today’s drama, but all I keep thinking is that their roofline just screams “ceiling leak”…

They could move in at the mansion and Tiffany could have a choice of which boyfriend to steal.

Someone had to say it. May as well be Bets. She’s right though: Holing up inside to hide from helicopter parents is no way to live. I’m an introvert and even I know you gotta get out there now and again. And that now is NOW.

How in the world could a guy with a beautiful girl in his arms not figure out what to do?

What’s stopping them from sneaking out of the house to go have fun elsewhere?

The strip’s refusal to let its characters be sexually active wouldn’t be so annoying if the strip didn’t spend so much of its time obsessed with sex. What’s the point of the nonstop innuendo if the characters are just gonna forget all about that once they actually have the chance to be intimate?

Oh, you could definitely do a Dr Who marathon. That will last you all summer for sure. And then some.

Maybe they could grow up and get a job.

Take a cue from Arlo and Janis?

It is a natural thing to do, even under the sheets, you could get the idea, when 2 people care so much for each other so why are they just looking into each others eyes, and wondering what to do next, it looks like they are both bored.

I genuinely hope that Tiffany reminds the sarcastic Ms. “I’d rather be with the man I love [than live in the manse]” that she rejected her offer and no longer requires her assistance watching the manse! Bets might realize that her smug dismissive attitude with Tiffany didn’t go unnoticed.

Also, its funny how quickly Bets goes from braggadocios and confident to bitter and bored. I’m assuming this is only the very beginning of their summer break, and she was haughty and self-satisfied when telling Tiff how unwelcome her offer was… only now she’s bored of the Gulag right after making and posting a whole video bragging about how romantic and awesome it was.

Did making the video put into perspective how boneheaded and petty it was? That or is Gunther’s spineless wimp routine finally wearing out its welcome with her? I hope both and she tells Gunther that she’s done with his passive ninny routine. He made a big deal out of “cutting the apron strings” but never actually did. Honestly, if I were her I’d have dumped him over how he didn’t even attempt to smooth things over with Irma and Al, before going along with the idea of hiding her in the closet like a shameful secret.

I hope this is leading to a showdown between Gunther, Al, and Mom and not a break-up.

Gunther, all the things you’ve mentioned is just my cup of tea. But, I’m a 73 year old guy with lowered testosterone. You’re young, pushing testosterone, and have a babe at your grasp and you can’t think of something more interesting than TV and crafts? You can’t blame this on genetics, cause, well, you’re here. Get with it, pal.

This is what life is like for many after they are married.

And before anyone starts, think for a moment:

We saw a lot more of Brad and Toni and the stories were a lot more interesting BEFORE they got married. When was the last time there was a compelling Brad and Toni storyline after they were married?

Gun, Bets? For most couples, living together is interrupted by something called a Job which normally occupies 8 to 12 hours of your day. (More for managers) So much so, that couples only get together on nights, weekends and vacations.

In other words, you’re not underfoot and locked in some small room 24/7.

You might as well be in jail…….,

This arc will go one of two ways. We either see a dark final panel on Saturday, or Bets bails on G-man. My money is on the latter (although the former could be fodder for many potential story arcs). Bets is mostly one-dimensional, and her utility is running out.

Why do they have to order in all their meals? Gunther can go to the grocery store, like he always has. Al and Irma don’t have a problem with Bets being there during the day, just overnight. So if Al and Irma came over when Gunther was at the store and Bets was there, they should not be upset. Or Bets and Gunther could go to the store together. None of this makes sense.

I don’t blame you Bets. The sooner you get out of there the better. I’ll bet you can still room with Tiff and I heard Kip is staying there too, you can see what it’s like hanging out with a real man. You won’t see Kip having thoughts about banging his Mom plus he has a spine.

Seems like a problem if they expect to have a long term relationship.

Wowzers… I’m reading a lot of projection into these comments.

I suspect the implication of today’s comic is that Bets is tired of “playing house” in all manners and forms….. the G rated examples of ComicCon and Start Trek, etc. And, likely the suggestion is this tiredness also includes being bored with any “playing house” activities that may be rated with different letters as well.

Perhaps Gunther and Bets have learned that “acting out” by sneaking around doing adult things with the mindset of children is not all its cracked up to be. Maybe now, they will begin making decisions that are more reasonable and adult-like. If they want to cohabitate, do the things necessary to do so…. pay for your own living accomodations…. or convince Irma and Al it is an appropriate thing.

Or, hell…. just enjoy the d*mn Summer by having some INTERESTING trips and experiences together.

Perhaps NOW we CAN get back to having this couple do more interesting and entertaining things….. like going on trips or to conventions, or….. even just attending classes. Anything is better than watching them be cooped up in the Gulag with blanket covered windows out of spite.

Gunther has gotta be hands down the most lamest comic strip character in history. Even Archie knew how to keep the ladies entertained.

I’m ready for Betts to hit the road, she’s too controlling. Gunther needs to grow a set and man up.

I predict that at the last instant, Gun will kiss Bets, and that will rapidly escalate to a fade out as they commence clothing removal (each other’s, that is).
