It’s very important to tell the bees what’s going on, or they will come inside to find out for themselves. And bees are generally better outside, thankyouverymuch.

He’s not ‘some guy’. He’s the Royal beekeeper and that is, in fact, one of his duties. https://metro.co.uk/2022/09/11/royal-beekeeper-knocked-on-each-hive-to-inform-bees-of-queens-death-17342552/

How did Elvis become so well-informed about British soldiery?

Actually, the royal beekeeper, John Chapple, knocked on each hive to inform them and tied a black ribbon on each box. Fascinating article:

It’s baby bat season in Central Texas. Sadly, too many pups have problems flying or become lost, and fall to the ground where they are easy prey. Note: NEVER pick up a fallen bat of any age.

    At the Xanadu Hive

Puckmosis: Your Majesty, Queen Titania, I wish to present you with this jar of Original Xanadu Honey, from the stores of the You Call That a Pyramid.

Queen Titania: Thank you most kindly, Puckmosis. This gift will be most helpful in our honey production.

Lupinium: And I have a gift for you of Pink Peonies from the Cosmo Nursery.

Queen Titania: That is a lovely gift. I had heard Trevor-Hotep has been working on creating lovely new flowers.

Beatrixia: Lupinium was the inspiration with his pink fur.

Callie (Calliope): That was a lovely fashion statement.

Lupinium: Yes. Maybe next year I’ll go pink again for Vacation Scroll School. The kittens love it.

Queen Titania: In appreciation for your lovely gifts, I hereby bestow on you all the title of Royal Bee Feeders!

So anyway, I first read BCN in January of this year after our local paper went belly up and I had to go to Go Comics. My husband and I love it, and I read it o him doing various voices. We had a cat, Teddy, up until May 4, when he sneaked outside and hasn’t returned. He had a microchip and everything. That month I started to binge read the whole comic from the bacon beginning! I didn’t think it would take me 3 months! Got back to January tonight. I think part of the reason it took me so long is because the watercolors are so fun to look at and there is so much amazing detail! I love the blankets and wallpaper and the great outdoors, especially at night. It truly is a work of art as well as a great comedy and drama. My compliments to Georgia Dunn. I’d write more but my right hand is in a splint from a fall. Have a great Sunday!

OT: A PSA for the summer because of the heat and the fact most of us here are seniors. My sister in California had a bad fall two days ago. Luckily, no broken bones and her son lives with her. Fall was caused by heat and dehydration. She went for a walk around the block when it was warmer than she’s used to, started to return home when she began to feel bad. She has a steep driveway and fell. She’s very stoic so she told my nephew she needed some bandaids. He said I’m taking you to the emergency room. She ended up spending 6 hours there getting stitches in her head plus bandages on one arm. 6 hours because they did tests, I think to be sure it was safe to send her home. So she’ll be alright but this all happened because at 81, her body couldn’t handle walking in the heat. So be careful out there, trust your instincts if it feels wrong and stay inside.

    Birds do it,

    Bees do it,

    Even educated fleas do it,

    The BCN crew however,

    Don’t do it

    Cause they don’t know how.

This part of Shepards Crown by Sir Terry Pratchett made me weep. From the book review by Patrick T. Reardon. “At first, the reader doesn’t know what it means that Granny saw her face in the privy water and that tomorrow won’t be “a much better day.”

All the reader knows is that Granny stays up all night cleaning her cottage and works on into the next day. From top to bottom, she scrubs the cottage, including — yes, again — the privy.

Things start to be clearer when she goes out to her beehives and thanks her bees, telling them:

“Please don’t be upset when someone new comes. I hope you will give her as much honey as you have given me.”

I do not know about England, but in Scotland you must always tell your bees about any important events. Such as a death in the family. If not they will leave and you will not have honey for your cuppa.

My cat was watching the world go by one day and a hummingbird started to investigate the flowers below the window. Of course, the hummingbird was darting up-down and back-and-forth around the flowers as hummingbirds do. My cat was completely flabbergasted and gave me a “They can do THAT?!” look.
