Normally Thursday starts to build up to the “big” Saturday ending. Not buildup here.
Tiffany is finally getting around to why she thinks Kip is interested in her, which is a step forward. But if this is a trial run for a new writer it has failed badly.
Tiff should have just invited them over for a sleepover. Looks like they’re NEVER going to the pool.
So if she felt that vibe.. the smart move is to spend the day hiding in your bedroom?? Whether Kip eventually breaks up with Stef or not is on him. Tiff should just treat Kip nice and enjoy having him as a friend.
.
Didn’t Luann get that vibe feeling, for years, from Gunther?
First Tiff you lied about your big epic party second you have Kip swimming in your pool and you and Luann and Bernice are inside something wrong with this picture.
All the exciting possibilities for summer stories and instead we get weeks and weeks of this. Hasn’t this dead horse been beaten enough? And when will G&K learn that a big promise needs a big payoff?
And how boring has the strip become where a mere pool party has become “a big promise” anyway? Good lord, the stakes of this strip have become so low that it’s unreal.
When I saw my now husband walk into the bar we agreed to meet face to face in (we talked online through a site for three months before agreeing we should meet face to face) and it was like an aura shined around him and my eyes saw nothing else but him. It was absolutely stunning.
I think Tiffany is sincere and that vibe was real. But despite this, Kip seems to want to stay with his girlfriend. I like Luann’s example with Puddles, but I don’t think it matters. Weird that Bernice seems to have never felt like she’s the most important thing to anyone. These three really need to talk to each other about love and feelings. Tiffany seems like the more romantic of the three, I always thought Luann was that one. But wr have to wait for her seriously answer. Because she can’t help but always make a joke. It’s so beautiful to see those three being friends.
While Tiffany has romantic thoughts, I think Bernice and Luann are destined to remain unattached. Essentially not a bad thing. Some people are simply meant to be that way. Could be the reason B n Lu stay friends. There is nobody else for them.
I’ve recently resumed lurking to enjoy the meta entertainment provided by the comments section. I’ll be seeing the Greg and Karen in a few weeks at the Reuben Awards. I’ll take the best reader questions with me, but I cannot guarantee they’ll give any answers. It’s hard to speak when one is overtaken by full blown belly laughter. Fire away!
Tenax Makes a great point in several responses to commenters (self included). A point that needs to be made, perhaps to show, that Tiff’s conscience is indeed in turmoil over her apparent desire to replace Stef as Kips girlfriend.
In front of Tiff, Kip told Stef that he and Tiff are “just friends. Trust me.” Hopefully he’ll keep his word and his promise to Stef …. [see, https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2023/06/15]
Also, Stef showed an unaccustomed maturity in accepting Kips promise in the next day’s panel.
Bernice comes as no surprise. Even from her past boyfriends, she never really “vibed” with any of them. She was emotionally invested, like any relationship, but nothing clicked for her. As for Luann, I think she’s just blocking her memories, like with Quill.
Why are Luann and Bernice acting like they have never experienced that feeling? Did Luann forget Oz? Did Bernice forget Zane and Nil? Or did Karen forget?
If Tiff is right about Kip’s “vibe”, then everything makes so much more sense. For instance, see the April 11 and May 1 strips. Very subtle, but possibly backing up Tiff’s feelings.
Very interesting and thoughtful. Tiffany has fallen in love with Kip, and can very correctly describe what it feels like, but Bernice and Luann haven’t ever really fallen in love, or maybe more correctly, received love from a boy.
I agree with Luann and anyone who comments about the same, my dogs give me total unconditional love. I adore them. I’m going back to suggesting the “Tiffany Needs A Dog” plan. Maybe tomorrow they’ll go to the shelter.
Gunther used to look at Luann like that… Quill too for that matter. But, uh… sure, Luann… your dog’s definitely a contender in this conversation about getting a man’s attention? Has someone checked on Luann? She seems to be leaking braincells, either that or her desperation for a guy is doing strange and horrible things to her mind.
I’d also bring up how Bernice had Zane, way back in the day and it was a pretty wholesome pairing… but dang that actually feels like a lifetime ago. Thinking about how much more likable she used to be is kind of painful when she’s currently stuck as the insufferable muse.
Also these three are so hopeless, thank goodness school is starting soon and we can never speak of the Kip-at-the-manse/Almost-romance ever again. I could tell this idea was kind of a non-starter when they had Kip stay attached to Stef. There was no way they’d have Tiffany get anywhere with a guy who’d willingly cheat on his girlfriend.
Bernice’s expression and reply in the last panel seems to confirm that her relationship with Zane has been retconned out of existence. Remember Zane, the guy Bernice asked to marry her back when she was in high school? Bernice certainly doesn’t remember.
Encouraging to see. Tiffany is smitten, but her “smit” is challenged by where the Speedos begin. Will the curiosity turn into obsession? Would Luann even understand?
This week is very frustrating. A lot of the readers are saying Kip will be gone by the time the girls actually get down to the pool which will probably be the Saturday comic.
Boy all the comments from sophisticated trolls, who are drawn to this strip like buzzards on forever replicating critique food, to people like me, whose approach is more story oriented, not less critical, we claim, nicer, to every range of opinion and perception possible, we all return to the summer special. The main, legacy, female characters interacting together in an ironically funny setting commiserating about the lack of success of their dating/relationship/no sex life. Gunther is lucky, he gets all of the above, and more, but his fellow legacy characters, these three, soldier on unsatisfied, clueless. That is my criticism, they need to find meaningful relationships, which can be the critical food for the foreseeable future. Please.
Nil treated Bernice in a very special way when they first started dating. She just didn’t notice that Nil did look at her the way Tiffany is describing.
So Tiff thinks that when Kip made eye contact (at that moment) that she was the most important thing in the universe (to him), a little un-realistic. No wonder neither Luann nor Bern could come up with a comparable situation. Of course animals (especially when you are feeding them) might consider you to be the most the important being in “their” universe. It’s also possible that this fantasy bubble of Tiff’s is due for a bursting.
I like this. Tiff and Kip did interact well and she brought out his sense of humor. And he did volunteer to stay at the mansion with her. His niceness could go either way. I don’t want to see Tiffany get hurt though. She’s shown a caring energy that Steff lacks. Luann is correct about Puddles’. Bernice must be rethinking her priorities.
I think people are missing the implication that the thing Luann is good at is self-deprecating humor. It’s what she wrote for class, if I remember correctly, it’s in the essay she was chosen to read at the fair, and she’s using it now. Lighten up.
