So much for AAA road service, but that only covers the first couple of miles. The bigger question is why is the tow truck operator presenting the bill to some stranger on the street (Al), instead of the person who called for the tow truck in the first place (Gunther)?
Lol looks like Toni’s assessment was a bit optimistic. Seems like it was all they could do to get it back.
Also, idk if they’re intentionally leaving Al to handle the mechanic or if the dude just saw the oldest guy there and handed him the bill but I hope they pay it.
They are at the age when they sometimes forget to “adult”. Then they realize that they could have or was supposed to have taken the responsibility or did it themselves. We all went through that phase at 18 and 19.
Well here lies another opportunity to weave a story with real interest. Have Gen and Bets proven to mama Irma that they are indeed a mature couple, fired in the crucible of day-to-day life, surviving dire trial and tribulations to the point where they will have proved their mettle such that they can merely shack up together with impunity in the Gulag???
I think, however, that Al may be planning something else. Perhaps involving *Ann Eiffel? * (dum-da-dummmm) You say nay nay BUT was this a wish? Or a PREDICTION!: >
I wonder if today’s strip is a one-off gag or the beginning of Al having a brilliant idea to demand they pay him off for the bill. I mean, it could really go either way, but man Al’s been such an unlikable jerk that I kind of want him to cool it on him bossing everyone around. I guess the RV’s basically not worth anything but scrap metal at this point, so I’m guessing the likelihood of it rusting away on the Gray property is just going to get swept under the rug of forgotten plot threads.
The irresponsible part of me thinks this is well worth it to get away from the Puritanical family for a few weeks. They could have had a staycation for free if you kept your nose in your own business and let adults be adults behind closed doors, Al.
Well, school is starting in the real world, how about Luann’s world? So Bets heads back to Muni U leaving Al or Gunther with the bill? BTW, In the newsletter, Greg said they would be reporting about the trip. Unless it went into the spam mailbox, I didn’t see anything.
Irma. Pay attention. That $998 is being taken out of YOUR budget and you were THE one who suggested that idea. It sure backfired. Ad your hubby is not thrilled. You HAVE to support him when he confronts the lovebirds and demands that they pay back the tow bill. At least BETS has the money – she can just give it up and turn over the money – or the title. Irma, next time you think you have a clever idea, think again. It might cost you more the next time.
Nice to see “Cheap” Ed again in one of his thousand works, even if this time the price is really high. Al seems less annoyed than yesterday, but I think is better than Bets and Gunther pay him back these $938. If they don’t have them, maybe Al will find them a job to do it. I like the contrast between them proclaiming to be self-reliant and responsible while Al is paying their bill. I think there will be a big speech at home and it won’t just be the story of the trip.
We had to be towed back home some 70 miles and the AA (UK) membership covered it all. Sounds like you guys over the pond are being stiffed. Makes a change though as a lot of things in the US are half the price of here (apart from ‘Health care’ of course).
So, one question, how did bets and gun get back? From what I remember a tor truck can only haul a car and not the people. They need to find their own way back.
Yesterday “Al” was denounced. If a supposed “adult” gave you a near $1,000 towing free after a happy-go-lucky road trip then you’d be p*ssed, too. I like Bets but Karen’s wrecking this character.
Bets has the cash for the van from her social media work. Also, Al doesn’t like Bets and Gun staying in the house together, but he’s fine with them traveling in a van together?
Wait, I’m confused here. Didn’t tony give that van a clean bill of health before they left? Seems like these two didn’t properly care of an aging vehicle and in the end needed to spend more than the van was worth to get home.
There is a lot we do not know: who paid for it, in their rush to be off on their adventure did they get insurance, register it, if they got insurance was it liability only, doubt a 19 year old would sign up with AAA, don’t you sign a work order(with an estimate) when you are being hooked up?
Basically just a repeat of the “Luann comes home from her camping trip” strip from 7/27/2019 (links don’t seem to be working otherwise I’d just link directly to it.)
Mature. Responsible. Able to take care of Themselves. What a JOKE! That’s why their van has a blown engine, they are in tattered clothes covered with grime, and they are ignoring the tow truck driver with his bill. I always enjoy it when Greg and Karen re-affirm the ignorance of GenZ people.
I’m guessing Al asked to SEE the bill, not necessarily PAY it. I’m guessing he will come up with some sort of proposal. Or maybe even make them an offer they can’t refuse. ;-) I’m also guessing the Gunther and Betts story will be told in a flashback…although I’m not sure why.
Hmmm, turn around and pay Ed, the tow truck operator. Looks as though the “honeymoon” period may be over. Mr. Grey gets the bill? We know Bets has the money to pay it. Will she offer to pay?
The anger over the bill reveals evidence of and maybe for Al’s resistance to Gunther and Bets. But I think a major surprise is in store for haters of that idea. Luannverse time will tell.
This is not unlike the times I went for a meal with a couple. The server always gave the bill to the adult male at the table assuming he was paying. Now the server asks.
This story reminds me of the time my ex, then husband, told me he was driving his friends to the ferry so they could go fishing for the weekend. I asked him to tell me the truth, that he was planning on going too. He couldn’t look me in the eye, just admitted it. They arrived home 24 hours after they were planning to. The A big rock took out the transmission on the unpaved road to the lake they were supposedly going to go fishing and then the group got seriously ill from the water.. or the drugs they took. Husband used the rent $$ to have his Caddy towed to the mainland and then told the landlord I took it. The final nail in the coffin that was our marriage.
When I was that age, I wouldn’t have had it towed to my parents house. I’d be in “cover-up” mode and figuring out how I would pay to fix the mess. Probably tell the parents after I fixed things, but not before.
Two more days left this week! What will Albert do? Make Gunther pay the bill? Make Gunther’s mom pay the bill? Make Bets pay the bill? Pay the bill and kick Gunther out? Pay the bill, get into a fight with Gunther’s mom and get a divorce? Or Les decides to pay the bill to avoid drama?
When I was 19 the engine blew up in my 68 442 my mom went to the dealer and made them put a new engine in it cost free to me.I never would have got that done at 19 even now doubt if I could do it,she did : )
For those mentioning that AAA and insurance has the tow truck take you to the closest place….that is true and yet also not true. While they will only pay for a tow to the closest….you can have the vehicle towed wherever you want (as long as the driver/tow company agrees), but you have to pay the difference. That is probably what Betz and Gunther requested and why Al was handed a large bill. And if the tow is far enough away, you usually have to pay for the time it takes the driver/truck to get back….that would explain the huge cost of the tow.
AAA plus coverage covers a two up to 200 miles on the house. If they had AAA (sounds like they didn’t), they would have to have been quite a distance from home to run up a tab like that. And yes, they should be picking up the tab themselves.
Of course I don’t know what’s coming tomorrow, but I hope Gunther gently pulls the bill out of his hand and Bets says, “We’ll take care of that.”And that’s why I have AAA Plus.
IF they really did have AAA wouldn’t they have to had call AAA and AAA would have sent out a truck. If they instead called Ed direct who was out of network they may be stuck with the entire bill. I really doubt a pair of 19 year old would join AAA.
The smug self-satisfaction of the Lovebirds with Irma may be a tad premature, considering the upset Al is experiencing with that towing bill (and wait until the repair bill for the van, if in fact it is repairable)….
