Are they deaf? He doesn’t want to talk. Take a hint, ladies!

On a side note… leaving your purses unprotected, on chairs in a classroom, isn’t a very bright idea.

    Hey Starhead?

“Folks” who “don’t want to talk,” usually find a way to be ALONE.

And NOT wander into a crowd of people. Especially “agressive, talkative” people they know.

I mean, what Starhead did is like attending a Philadelphia Eagles game and sitting in the rowdy section while wearing the jersey of the other team.

And expecting not to be “bothered……,” ;-)

Luann and Tara are so self-absorbed about their “helping” Piro, and what they think is best for him. He clearly stated that he is dealing with some stuff right now, and doesn’t want to talk. The girls should offer silent support by asking if they could just hang out with him and not say anything. They probably don’t understand a comfortable silence and how soothing that can be.

Luann and Tara love Piro too much. It must be really hard for them to accept that they can’t do anything for him, just leave him alone. This clash with reality will probably make them understand that helping is not a game and is not easy. I hope this doesn’t discourage them, even if he doesn’t want to have them around right now, Piro needs their friendship way more than he thinks.

So this is where you say something to the effect of, “I’m sorry you’re going through a difficult situation. Do you mind if I just sit with you?” And if they feel like opening up, you are there to listen, and if not, at least they know you care enough to just let them be, and they have the option of saying something. Of course, this is a comic, so we’re going for the obnoxious approach!

What’s really going on here is that Luann and Tara are competing for Piro’s attention. Maybe not for romantic reasons, but competing all the same. I think Luann felt a connection back at the fair when she was backstage with Piro, right before she performed. Tara laid claim to him because they’re cousins, and apparently they have a history.

Panel two shows how baffled and concerned about Piro, who clearly has some serious issues affecting him, Lu and Tara are. The plot device about the competition over thrill or laugh each offer I see as just as a story structural plot device. This a humor toon, that is not afraid to tackle serious issues, in a humerous way. Piro clearly is a character in crises. Don’t lose focus on that.
