Well, I’m bored with this week. If GnK are trying to make Luann less interesting than before, they are succeeding. Luann needs to go out and do something. Tiffany needs to do something beside whine about Stef. Bets or Gunther needs to go out and do something. Puddles is the only character who goes out and does something every day. Of course Luann has to pick it up and dispose of it afterwards, but at least Puddles has a goal in life.
Mrs. Horner is right. My old job in NYC was just a “blah” paycheck (and not a very big one), but at least it gave me enough spare time to pursue my real interests.
Maybe back in her day perhaps, but in this day and age, paychecks do not enable our passions. Honestly, I’ve had to just give up on my passions long ago because passions don’t pay the bills . . . but then again, even paychecks barely pay the bills anymore. Great, now I’m getting depressed again.
I’m not sure I like that bit of wisdom. I sought out a job/profession that I knew I would love from day one.. and never thought of it as going to work. I loved every moment of my 40 year career!!!
Heard a story one time about a railroad worker who was ministering to passenger in need of spiritual guidance. The passenger queried how it was that he worked for the railroad when he was acting as a pastor. He said: “My real job is serving the Lord. I work for the railroad to cover expenses.”
Mrs. Horner: ‘Luann when I first started workin at 18 in 1948, minimum wage ws 40¢ an hour. It mus be durned near $2.50 an hour now. You’ll be able to buy a house, a nice car, an pursue all your passions!’
Now that the Election is over – let’s get the COMMENTS back on political strips. I suggest users here start contacting Go Comics through the “contact” us for under the “Feedback/Suggestions” subject.
Luann and Mrs. Horner are having a really nice chat. Mrs. Horner knows how to talk to Luann and she trusts her mentor completely. What she tells her will be able to change her life, maybe even give her self-esteem a boost. But living with someone like Bernice, who never misses an opportunity to remind her of her mistakes, will make that very difficult.
Mrs. Horner is 100% correct. If your passions and dreams cannot allow you to live, then you need to find something that will, and that will fund your passions and dreams. That’s what went wrong for so long, and why we have students graduating University with advanced degrees like “M.S. in Anthropological Studies of the Drum Communication of the Tribes that Live Along the Banks of the Congo”. Yea, I actually met a guy at McDonalds that was asking me if I’d like fries with that…because he couldn’t find a job. No Sh!t Sherlock. Who ever allowed you to pursue that and enable you on that? They should lose their job, and your parents? Well, they hold a lot of responsibility as well. Met so many people that “followed their dreams” and now can’t pay a loan they took out because the degree is USELESS…smh
Au Contraire, you demented old dingbat… Passions pay HUGE paychecks for our Dearest Ann❤️Eiffel. And those arcs are the best ones going on this weak sauce coming. No Wonder We ALL ❤️ Exotic Ann❤️Eiffel, Boy Howdy!
Her shirt would be meaningful if it stated “We are all blank slates”. It’s misleading with its initials B.S. I mean, who reads “B.S.” and even asks further if there’s any other deep meaning?
When will Luann finally show some growth? We’ve seen huge growth from Tiffany, Gunther, Bernice, and even Les, but Luann is still the same doubtful individual she was in high school. I really wish the author would have allowed her to do the sky jump.
I don’t get this. LuAnn is a natural with children. Why can’t she or Mrs. Horner see that? The other person who needs guidance. She is not cut out to be a therapist because she has no ability to read people. (Ex. LuAnn’s mom and the puzzle.)
Yeah, happened to me. It’s not that I couldn’t find a passion, I just couldn’t settle on one, and life’s practical needs got in the way anyway. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to live on a small income in retirement now and do a few of the many things I’d like to do.
I don’t like Mrs. Horner. She’s preaching the old “go with the flow” agenda. Get a job, any job, take some classes at school, eventually get your own place, quit school to work more hours to pay for your own place and never participate in activities that might spark your interest as a career. Luann should go apprentice on a dive boat crew or a college level ocean study group. She should definitely forget about that crazy book writing idea, as she would be better at writing plays. And she should definitely move in broader circles and spend less time in her room with Bernice.
This strip frustrates me. Boring old Luann. Snarky Bernice. The only ones that have interest in their lives are Brad and Toni. Luann needs to grow up and focus. Bernice needs to find a new future profession. Tiff needs to look for someone other than Kip – he seems kind of skanky, really. The Evanses have had problems pacing their plots for many years now.

How about firefighter, Lu?
It’s hardly a “blah job.”
And your bro might just put a good word in with the fire chief. ;-)

Ikigai, the confluence of (a) what you’re good at, (b) what you’re passionate about, © what people need from you, and (d) what you can get paid for. Find that and you’ll never work another day in your life, yet your life will be secure and fulfilled.
