I’m not sure than tucking a pillow under one’s chin is an approved method of replacing the pillowcase. It looks like a good way to get the chin contaminated.
Ohh. Luann is getting frisky with Phil! She feels comfortable enough to get in a cute tiff with him. Clearly Mrs Horner and Phil talked about kidney donor topic. Possibly Horner mentioned she’d not accept a donor kidney and Phil might’ve told her she wouldn’t qualify anyway due to her age anyway. However, it’s thoughtful of Luann to do a little homework on potentially donating her kidney. Not many people would offer especially to someone who is not a relative.
Somebody that young giving a kidney to somebody that old doesn’t seem like the right thing to do. Luann would have to go 70 more years on one kidney. And sometimes the patient’s body rejects the donated kidney.
Luann’s playful stance an exchange with Phil gives me th idea this might be goin somewhere mebbe in the romance department twixt em. A case of th PhiLu?
Even if they were a match, I didn’t think Mrs. Horner would want to jeopardize the health of someone just beginning her adult life just to extend her own life a little bit longer.
Transplants aren’t allowed after a certain age. My mom needed a liver transplant but the doctors said she was too old. I was already prepared to start the testing process but she said no. She didn’t want any of her family members to go through surgery for her since she knew she wouldn’t be around to enjoy the new liver. She was at peace with her decision.
You don’t need to be a match to donate. If you offer a kidney, they find another donor that matches. Then your donated kidney goes to someone you match with. It’s called KPD. Look it up if you are interested in the program.
Still getting acquainted, there’s no rush. Better this way. Let him do the first step for once. Luann certainly is worth it. That’s being established just there. Not many people are as generous as that, and courageous. It takes both to just consider giving up an organ.
Mrs. Horner knows to not be a “life pig.” She accepts that her time grows short, and chooses to make the most of being happy with what little of it remains for her. We should all be so fortunate. Lots of foreshadowing going on, and I am sensing a kind of karmic exchange on the horizon. We will bid farewell to Mrs. Horner in exchange for Brad & Toni welcoming a new addition. That latter part has been foreshadowed too. The Evans are doing a good Lynn Johnston-like job of plot advancement a la the FBOW strip. About the only intriguing thing might be how long the Evans drag out Toni’s pregnancy; gotta be at least 2 years of material to be mined here.
Yes, it’s easy to imagine Mrs. Horner fighting back against something like that, but it’s still really admirable to know that Luann would do it. She’s a brave, young woman who’s willing to do anything to help others. That’s why I think more and more Luann would be very fitting in a career where she could be able of caring for the sick.
It’d be nice if Luann found a nice, stable guy to date, but I’m skeptical it will ever happen. She seems doomed. Somehow something will disqualify this guy. My bet is he’s already married, but, thinking back to Mrs. Horner’s “your slate’s been Phil’d” comment, she would know he’s unavailable, right?
Okay, now I’m on Luann’s side to be leery of this guy’s cleanliness, considering the fact that using one’s chin to stuff pillows kinda negates the benefit of wearing latex gloves.
i know my organs will not be in good shape once i am done with them. having T1d for 55 years, i am hoping that they will last me for another 15-20 years.
Luann is an unbelievable wimp (which is why she’s still a virgin). She’s obsessively altruistic when she needs to be more narcissistic and protective of her own future. A living organ donation can endanger ones own health and life. I wouldn’t consider it except perhaps for an immediate family member.
As a former nurse, have to say that’s NOT how you put a fresh pillow case on a pillow. One grasps the midpoint of the seam end with the dominant hand, folds back the open end over the dominant arm, takes hold of the end of the pillow, and then pulls the case over the pillow.
I’m 65, and dealing with some kidney issues (my progress and the prognosis are both very good). But my 30-year-old daughter got a little nervous when I started explaining what was going on, and immediately offered to donate to me if it ever came to that. I had to sit her down and quietly explain that there was no way I could ever allow her to do that for me. I wouldn’t let her take a risk like that for me.

That’s nice of Luann.. But at Mrs. Horner’s advanced age, I don’t think many doctors would even perform the surgery.
It does seem like they both are hitting it off pretty well… Will they set up a date?

At 94 I don’t think anyone is admitted into the kidney donor program as a recipient.
But does Phil know something that Luann doesn’t, like a living will with a DNR clause?

This is starting to remind me of that SVU episode where Marlee Matlin played someone in need of a kidney, but refused to accept it.

Okay, Lu.
Are you being serious, or just trying to “show-off” for Phillip?
And he’s right. Mrs Horner NEVER accept one of YOUR Kidneys.
Mrs H would probably argue something like: “I’ve lived a rich, full life. You have yours yet to live, dear.”
And I have the sneaking suspicion that the feisty Mrs Horner just might be eyeing Phil for herself. ;-)
