Reminds me of a TV commercial where a banker asks an Inuit if he has any “liquid assets.” The man replies, “Yes, but they’re all frozen!” Can’t remember what that commercial was for.

Hobbes, you’re becoming more and more like Dad every day! Better watch that!

Futility is trying to explain a joke to a realist!

Of course, Stuffed Tigers don’t walk around and talk either. But it can be really Funny/Cute/Heart Warming.

Well I thought it was a good joke.

I get the feeling Bill Watterson was throwing subtle shade at his fellow cartoonists for their extremely lame jokes and visual puns.

My brother-in-law is like this. He yells at science fiction movies for not being “real.” Duh, that’s why it’s science FICTION.

Logic in cartoons? This is why I read “Cathy!”

But how would the engine STAY frozen with thousands of controlled explosions going off in it per minute ??

This is the level of inane detail a lot of commentators put into this very website, completely forgoing the concept of comedy. How ironic.

Oh, Hobbes. Calvin will have to explain cartoon physics to him.

If I’m being honest, I’ve seen many less funny comics done by professionals over the years.

There are a few “Hobbes” in this and other comment sections.

Of course, Calvin could have replied that the snowman getting into the car means that the snow car would go just as the snowman got into it. As Hobbes says though, the engine WOULD have to be frozen in a snow car.

Come on rare talking tiger, it build character ya knows.

Hobbes sounds like many GoComic commentators on other days pointing out the logic inaccuracies or other goofs which are not real.

I try not to let logic get in the way of my comics.

Logic!

Hobbes applies logic in the same way some readers to. It’s just a comic. It can go anywhere the author wants it to.

Calvin must’ve been trying to fill the void from The Far Side ending earlier that year (January 1, 1995).

Hobbes should analyse ‘Andy Capp’ since the ‘new guys’ took over and explain where the gags are.

The engine wouldn’t have frozen if he used antifreeze, like the owner’s manual says

Logic is supposed to ENHANCE your joke, not kill it.

I’m with Calvin on this one. It’s a good, silly cartoon. I don’t think anyone is a fan of Tex Avery for his realism.

Hobbs sounds a bit like the commenters without a sense of humor that show up in these comments. It’s a comic.

Hobbes, like many people, doesn’t appreciate absurd humor. It’s not supposed to make logical sense!

It’s a mildly amusing joke, and then comic book guy has to go and ruin it.

Hobbes’ comment reminds me of so many that I read in the GoComics comments.

a slight change to the punchline is all he needs, “Darn it, the engine warmed up!” then it’s funny because of reversal of common sense.

I love Calvin’s expression in that last pane!

Readers Digest would appreciate that joke.

Hobbes and I would get along very, very well.
