I just spotted Elvis’ – ahem, “Sherlock Holmes’” – bubble pipe and I am highly amused. Way to keep things family-friendly, Elvis!

And in the best of fashion, Goldie comes down the runway in her first Sunday appearance.

They have certainly covered all the bases. A bit heavy on the British mysteries (I was a huge fan of Miss Marple and Sherlock Holmes) and also read Nancy Drew, and watched Remington Steele, Murder She Wrote, and Magnum PI, and Columbo.

I think Tommy should be “Magnum P.J.” and holding a pineapple with a straw sticking in it.

Hail, Hail, The GANG’S all here! YAYAYAYAY! It was just yesterday I was commenting about missing the rest of the gang.

I suppose having so many cats in one room made Trevor too nervous to make an appearance. I think he would be a perfect Adrian Monk! It took me a moment to recognize Tabitha. And of course the robber mice would be Charlie’s Angels!

I loved Avalon Harmonia (Cyndi Lauper’s character on Bones)! I always hoped they’d spin it off into a series.

Of course they leaned heavily towards English mysteries. The woman likes to watch British mysteries on television

I love love love this strip. I love detective shows. I grew up watching Columbo, Murder She Wrote, and Remington Steel. I know all these detectives , except for Miss Fisher. It’s just perfect how each cat fits the personality of his or her chosen detective.

Oh my Cat! In panel 1, Puck’s Hercule Poirot mustache is on a stick and he holds it up to his face in subsequent panels. LOL!

Of Agatha Christie’s detectives, I always found Miss Marple more engaging than Poirot.

Or she could go with “Tuppence”, but then she’d need a Tommy. There is one in the neighborhood.

All these detectives!! I can’t choose a favourite. Missing Lord Peter Wimsey, Roderick Alleyn, and William Murdoch, though. It’s a shame, Georgia just ran out of cats.

I can think of a lot of fictional female detectives, but few with specific costumes. Maybe Dr. Julia Ogden, from Murdoch Mysteries? Elegantly clothed in early 20th century high fashion.

Or one of the four friends from 1920s era Toronto in Frankie Drake Mysteries? Frankie the former WW1 dispatch rider with her motorcycle and daring trousers? Her well dressed PI partner Trudy, always in up to the minute fashion that she made herself?

Delightful! Many great literary and pop culture references here. :D

Hooray!!! Goldie has been introduced on Sunday!!! Isn’t this her first appearance? Now she’s truly part of the Gang of Four.

This is so cute. :-D

I had been imagining Goldie as being like Janet Evanovitch’s bumbling bail-bonds enforcer, Stephanie Plum. Both seem to spend lots of time trying to interview folks hanging out around places like garbage dumps. Goldie trying to figure out why she was locked out of her home/people disappeared reminded me of Stephanie trying to figure out what happened to her exploded car (again). But I don’t think this series has been televised yet.

This is too perfect! What a delight – I’m going to be wearing a smile every time I think of this crazy crew today. (Trevor kind of strikes me as a little bit of a fussy-phobic Adrian Monk.)

Dorothy Sayer’s Lord Peter Whimsey!!! Miss Marple, Hercules Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, Father Brown…never like Nancy Drew, or The Hardy Boys. Loved a lot of TV characters; Quincy, Matlock, Steele, McMillian, Columbo, Fletcher…

All those lovely little Georgia Dunn touches like the bubble pipe and the hand held mustache and the lovely way the characters fit the cats. I love Bea as Nancy Drew! And Sophie is exquisite as always. And Goldie now has her own fashion statement! Love it!

I loved the original Nancy Drew books. Whoever “re-wrote” them in the 60’s trashed all the style. I agree they “dumbed it down” and in the process made her look like a doll. The real Nancy Drew had guts and class and style.

Miss Fisher, good choice, she’s “Batman” in heels. “Una cosa mas.” – the defining Columbo move. “Magnum P.I.” is more than a mustache – must have Hawaiian shirt.

Today is National Green Juice Day. It is also Australia Day. Somehow, I find that coincidence oddly appropriate.

Has anyone else seen Foyle’s War? WWII England, Foyle wants to go to the front, like he did in WWI, but he’s forced to stay and be a copper, defending the law abiding citizens from the criminal element. Because the war was at home as well… The final episodes (set after the war) were not quite as good, but still worth watching it all the way through.

When Bea says Murder She Don’t that reminded me about how we would watch that show all the time growing up. We called it Murder She Did because my brothers said it was unrealistic that all those murders would happen around her in such a small town. So obviously she was killing the people and then tricking others into confessing to them.

I only read a handful of Nancy Drew books, but my brother & I did have fun playing the Nancy Drew games when we were kids =) They were the only games I was confident enough to be on the controls for, and he was in the advisor role.
