I predicted Nils would show up on Saturday (tomorrow) and here he is making a date with Bernice. But will he gift her with his picture of two lips.

Good idea. Talk to the fish. Ironically, he’s probably one of the most grounded characters in this strip.

Well, that was a sudden change in mood for Bernice. Perhaps there will be romance in the near future. All that worrying over nothing.

Well, Nil WAS interested…but when he saw all those immature emojis she sent him… he lost interest QUICKLY.

That’s sweet, actually. Nil liked that so-called nonconsensual kiss, and it looks like the authorities won’t have to get involved.

I think Bernice needs an appointment with the Campus Psychologist or better yet another session with Luan’s Mom, but this time Bernice needs to be more in depth about her emotions and her lack of ability to handle them (I hope they are the right words).

Honestly the comic is called Luann not Bernice, though it will be helpful for Lu to see the usually level headed Bernice ride the early dating phase rollercoaster…IMHO…

Now that B is all happy and will stuff her worries about being too ‘forward’ back into her subconscious, I hope we can MOVE ON. I have given up on B, so if she ends up having a nervous breakdown at some point because she is so conflicted about her attraction to men, so be it…

Let’s not jump to conclusions. We still don’t know for certain if Nil’s interest in Bernice is romantic.

I hope Nil finds happiness (some would “ghost” Bernice after that vanishing act but that does not appear to be his style). He comes off as a caring introvert and Nil seems like a nice guy so I hope Bern does not do anything foolish to torpedo any chance at a relationship. I also wish Nil luck, he is walking into a hornet’s nest of convoluted emotions in Bernice who obviously has a ton of issues, especially from someone who has not been scarred in bad relationships before as she has not had any kind of relationship beyond platonic friendship in recent memory (except in her own mind in fantasizing about Jack and chasing the enigmatic Piro)…..

Too many emojis there Bernice, play it cool.

Maybe Nil will have a new hairdo tomorrow…and no dorky hat…and a sharp outfit…and two eyes.

Don’t be so eager, Bernice. It’s very possible that Nil wants to meet you to explain that you completely misunderstood what he said and that he isn’t looking for a romance.

Yep. That’s exactly the face of someone JUST happy to have a chance to apologize… Their incredible love story continues, even despite Bernice’s tendency to overthinking about everything. Monstro is adorable and Luann and Nancy preferred to leave her alone; wise women. Bernice is a character that I love and hate, she reminds me a lot of my sister when she was a young psychology student and she thought to understood everything about everyone. I can’t wait to see Nil’s reaction to Bernice’s arrival, more specifically, if Nil will have a visible reaction. It would be an incredible change! GO NIL!!!!!!!

I am happy for Bernice. I hope this develops into a nice relationship.

Interestingly, Zane, her last MAJOR infatuation, actively pursued a relationship at the start. Bernice had raised a companion puppy (Royce) that was assigned to him after the training period was complete. The relationship crashed and burned when Bernice started talking marriage at too early an age.

Luann’s probably jealous – when’s the last time she kissed a boy?

Bernice was worried her kiss was too forward, unwarranted and borderline abuse but after a 2-word text, she is genuinely beaming at the idea of seeing Nil again! I don’t think I’ve seen her this excited about a man since Zane (I re-read old strips). Still, her physical attraction to Jack isn’t through, however.

First Frame: B rushes into kitchen to tell Luann Nil invited her for coffee, but only Frank is there, and asks if B is looking for Nancy. B says, ‘Luann and her Mom’.

Second Frame: Frank: “Nancy’s helping her move to the dorm for the summer school program. We thought she’d do better living on campus.” B: “Summer School program?”

Third Frame: Frank: “You know, that early childhood art therapy certification. I’m sure she told you. This will be perfect. Luann at school, Nancy staffing the bar and I’m back to work. You’ll have complete peace and quiet to study.”

Bern is having a bit of a late start. I believe most of us did this early on in high school. Such a drama girl. But, she did give a kiss and that is more than I have seen with Luann in ……how long? I sometimes wonder if the writer was a big fan of Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver and Father knows best? Ah those good old days!

So Bernice opens up to Monstro. Figures. One cold fish talking to another. :P

Bernice wasn’t really “opening up” to Nancy, and she certainly wasn’t listening to anything Nancy was trying to tell her. She wasn’t asking Nancy for help or advice, she just wanted someone to listen to her weeping and wailing. As soon as Luann walked into the room, Bernice shut down, informing both Luann and Nancy: “I’m a psych major. I know how to handle this.” Effectively telling Nancy, “I don’t need your help either.”

so true…the drama…the back and forth…any dad with a daughter…

All right, Bernice! The monsters in your head were imaginary, weren’t they? Most times they are. Happens to me all the time! Nil wants to be your friend. Boy friend? Time will tell. Relax and just be yourself—if those two things aren’t contradictory.

The funniest twist for Saturday would be if Bernice’s phone chimes two more times:

1. Gunther: I need to talk to you about Bets.

2. Bets: I need to talk to you about Gunther.

Bernice has more ups and downs than a roller coaster. One minute she is screaming at Luann and the next she is giddy about a guy she didn’t even like a few days ago. Last week she was gaga for Jack and now she is in love with Nil? She is one unstable nutcase.

Now we know Nil liked the kiss. Bernice doesn’t have to jump off a cliff.

I am very much liking this! I am glad that Nil wrote back and proposed meeting for coffee! I like how happy this has made Bernice feel! This is wonderful.

Yet… I am a bit worried that this may be a case where TOMORROW (Saturday) we will have a series of Bernice and Nil at the Coffee Shop…. and Greg will throw us into a loop where something Nil says will either be negative about the potential for romance between Bernice and Nil….. or perhaps even more likely….. Greg will have the last part of the panel be some statement that is a bit unclear and could be potentially interpreted as either positive or negative….. and then he will leave us in ambiguity-land as he moves to another character set come Monday.

Better to forget making most apologies. You just annoy people again. (Some are necessary.)

I remember a story about a couple driving home after a date. Woman makes a comment about how they’ve been dating for exactly six months. Then she starts thinking, “Why did I say that? Will he think I’m pushing for a commitment? Do I want a commitment? Where is this relationship going? Marriage? Children?” He’s thinking, “Six months, I’m overdue for an oil change.” And the trains of thought continue from there, she’s berating herself about “What am I doing, waiting for a white knight on a horse, when there’s a decent man right in front of me, I’m just not sure.” and he’s thinking about how he needs something done about his transmission. She says something to the effect of, “I know there’s no white knight and horse, but I think we should take our time.” He’s thinking “HUH!” but just says, “Sure, of course.” while wondering what the heck that was about. He drops her off, she stays up all night rehashing the whole thing. He goes home and turns on ESPN. She and her girlfriends spend days analyzing and reanalyzing the whole thing. He asks a mutual friend he’s playing racquetball with if she ever had a horse.

Happy for Bernice and Monstro so cute!
