Unfortunately, we were overcast, and if we hadn’t been, the full moon would have made them difficult to see. Ah, well, “Just wait till next year!” (Also the motto of many sports teams.)

The meteors aren’t that numerous here. When Mom had a beach house, we’d sprawl out on the walkway and watch the meteors scoot across the sky, but I don’t recall more than a few at a time. Beatrix and Trevor together always makes my heart mushy.

    Starry, starry night

Paint your palette blue and gay

They all look out on a summer’s day

With eyes that know the flash’s beauty there

    Shadows on the hills

Under the tree with funny skills

Catch the breeze and get the chills

In colors of the lovely painted land

    Now I understand

What you tried to say to me

“It’s just some meteors we see”

And how you tried to give them glee

And they would listen, they did know how

Perseids they know and enjoy now

    Starry, starry night

    Flaming flashes that brightly blaze

    Swirling clouds in violet haze

Reflect in each one’s to catch the clue

    Colors changing hue

Rainbows blur am I a dope?

Or just lookin’ thru a kaleidoscope?

Or soothed beneath the artist’s loving hand?

    Now I understand

What you tried to say to me

That’s not evil but just beauty

And how they fried by getting free

They would listen, they did know how

Perseids they’ll just adore them now

For they could just love you

And still their love was true

And when this hope was left in sight

    On that starry, starry night

You looked for fun, as we all often do

But I could’ve told you dear ones

I wish this world was meant for

    One as beautiful as you

    Starry, starry night

    Each one come together now

Under the tree or on the bough

With eyes that watch the world and can’t forget

All the strangers that you’ve met

Wild animals meet there very late

    With relations being intricate

United and frolicking on the meadows, aww!

    Now I think I know

What you tried to say to me

It’s just some meteors we see

And now enjoy the mere beauty

Yes, they would listen, they are listening still

Now let’s drink to our fill..

I remember being at Choir Music Camp in rural IL when in grade school. It was two weeks in summer, and one night we camped out on a tarp in a field after picking raspberries and making ice cream. That night we watched a meteor shower. It was glorious.

Absolutely gorgeous! And the only way I see them since for every single meteorological event we have, the sky is always overcast here and I never, ever see them anymore. And while I live in Michigan, at our previous house which is also where I grew up in SE Michigan, as a child, I could see the Northern Lights. Too much light pollution for that now as well. Guess we didn’t move far enough north.

Reminds me of star gazing in places like the Glades, Cedar Key and the Appalachians. As a child I still remember those stars at Blowing Rock back in the early ’70s. Light Pollution has made stargazing more challenging nowadays, especially here in FL. Here is an idea my daughter and I have for when she graduates from FSU next spring, before she goes off to grad school (hoping she chooses USF just down the road but likely staying in Tallahassee) …… It could be a fun week or so!

Beautiful artwork in the last panel, and I also like the fourth with Burt eating a popsicle and Trevor holding Beatrix. I have lately been reading the Mothman Prophecies, and with this week’s supernatural storyline panel one immediately made me leap to a flying saucer storyline. But Georgia would never! Right?

Re: animal politics. Our raccoons and possums get along pretty well for the most part, side by side but ignoring one another. But this year we have a baby possum and a baby raccoon who have become friends and trundle along together, walking the top of the fence! They are so cute! I saw momma possum during the “possum bus” phase when she had about a half dozen riding on top and more inside, but as far as I can tell only three babies have made it to the independent stage and stuck around. You can tell possums apart by their tails, ours look nearly alike but their tails are each very distinctive!

Picture yourself in the grass on a hillside

With wildlife in trees and pets standing by

Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly

    Rainbows in kaleidoscope skies

Perseid showers so fast yet serene

    Streaking over your head

Look for the moon as the crescent does rise

    And she shines

    Georgia’s brilliant sky sublime and

One more nighttime sky divine and

Tommy does report so fine, mon

    Ah

Living in Virginia, we’re not supposed to see the auroras here. But years ago, I walked into my living room to see a bright green, silent, fluctuating glow through the little windows in the front door and through the closed blinds. It freaked me out so much I was afraid to investigate (I was cold sober, not chemically altered, and it wasn’t Christmas, July 4th, or any holiday). Not that late at night, but none of the neighbors ever mentioned it. Haven’t seen it again. Or maybe the aliens removed my memories…; )

    Atlantic Starr: Masterpiece

    A happy gathering of friends

    The whole world is alright

    A shower of shooting stars

    Sets the sky alight!

A story paints a picture, of miracles unknown

How can this wonder be? The joy I see!

    …….

Silver in a dark blue sky

    More precious than all gems,

A painting of a wondrous world

Shared with each and every friend!

A world of pure majesty in this picture!

And now it’s time to say, that night or day

    …….

This is a masterpiece, it’s true

The world seems so brand new

Brimming with such joy and love!

    Ooh!

This is a masterpiece, it’s true

The world seems so brand new!

    And it’s a treasure!

    …….

Like a real life kaleidoscope, the sky just bursts with light

Unable to contain myself, my joy, it just takes flight!

To share with so many friends, there is no need for strife!

And now I thank you, friends, let this love never end!

    …….

The history and politics we all can put aside

Let’s watch the Creator’s magic show

    A miracle of light!

    Captured in such a picture,

    So lovely, beautiful

And now I thank you all

    As shooting stars fall!

    …….

This is a masterpiece, it’s true

The world seems so brand new

Brimming with such joy and love!

    Ooh!

This is a masterpiece, it’s true

The world seems so brand new!

    And it’s a treasure!

    …….

This work of art we’re seeing,

    Never let it go

    Beauty and joy forever,

    And we’ll always know that:

    …….

This is a masterpiece, it’s true

The world seems so brand new

Brimming with such joy and love!

    Ooh!

This is a masterpiece, it’s true

The world seems so brand new!

    And it’s a treasure!

    Fireflies

On the roof watching summer night skies

    All the boys

    All the girls

All the time making love with our eyes

Life just goes on for us day after day

    Screamin’ by, oh oh oh
