“Pleasure comes in many forms”? Spatulas? Uhh . . . I take it Frank and Nancy are going to be playing a little “Baker in the Mineshaft” after lights out? I mean, apparently Raymond and Debra enjoy that. . . .
I don’t if this one scene in Alfred Yankovic’s “White and Nerdy” music video was set at Christmas or on the nerd’s girlfriend/wife’s birthday (or even the couple’s anniversary), but he got her a surge protector, which she happened to enjoy.
Brad you don’t give a woman a negligee for a gift for HER. It’s a gift for YOU. And Frank, honest, you don’t give a woman anything that has to do with housework or cooking. Are both of you competing for which one can give a more sexist gift?
All depends on the interests of the recipient. Frank may know (I hope) that Nancy is an accomplished chef and will appreciate the gift. If you look back at gifts women were happy to receive 70 years ago, a set of cooking pots was high on the list!
My granddaughter was thrilled to get my gift- a gift card to an automotive shop so she can buy more mechanics tools.
Spatula City was having their annual “Buy 1 Get 10 For Free” sale. Frank figures if he gives Nancy two each year, he will have enough for 5 years, and one for a birthday. How thoughtful is that?
When a guy buys his sig other a negligee as a “gift”, it’s not really for HER, but for HIM. Like getting your wife a gift of new snowtires, for YOUR car.
There is more than one way to a man’s heart. Stomach is one. But really it is a gift Frank is buying for himself, almost as self-serving as buying her that new power drill he’s been wanting.
I got me wife a bunch of sexy lingerie for her birthday a couple years ago. She immediately said “No, that was a present to YOU!” And she was right. Did I care, nope. She looked mighty fine in them duds.
Brad’s question and expression seems to have given him pause and briefly think about how his and Toni’s futures will be as they get further along in their marriage. Frank has got to have a second part to that gift. How ’bout an extravagant night out away from the Fuse? Nancy has kept in pretty good shape. She would look good in a negligee.
You can tell that Frank and Brad are very similar to Luann. They are both gifts something that they will then use together with the person receiving the gift. More accurately, both are giving them something they want them to use, because they like to see their wifes use those gifts for them. Maybe it’s a bit selfish, but in my opinion it’s not a wrong way to give gifts, it helps them live better together. I hope Nancy and Toni will have a conversation like this too.
Enjoy the chase under teh sheets while you can Brad, as soon the hormones will begine to fade and a nightly occurence will evolve to monthly then bi-monthly, then …
I read someplace that lingerie was a risky gift. The garment (or lack thereof) may highlight a part of her anatomy she’s insecure about. Anybody have this happen?
My favorite all time Christmas present from my husband was my KitchenAid stand mixer. I was really in to baking bread at the time. Still love it. One year I asked for a composter and that’s what I received. I seldom wear jewelry or perfume, why waste the money? Don’t assume all women want the same things.
Well, we know where both Brad and Frank’s minds are. But, as much as Nancy could probably use a new spatula set for the kitchen, I’d be surprised if she didn’t wish Frank’s mind ran closer to Brad’s. That negligee for Toni, though, might help get them closer to giving Shannon a little cousin
I wish to disagree with the majority. I am laughing so hard right now. I haven’t bought a new spatula in years, because I feel like it would be an easy gift for my young children to buy for me (aka the hubs). Literally, I wrote on my secret Santa slip at work that I wanted spatulas (got 2! Score!) And my four-year old let it slip that she bought me a spatula. I actually really love spatulas and everyone always thinks I’m joking. Today’s strip is my life!
After reading the 1st post and the responding comments to it – I had a flashback from the good old days. 1st poster would post “first” – then 2nd poster would post “second”. Always made me smile. :-)
I once told my husband that the only presents I ever wanted from him were things he made or drew for me himself. Those are the ones I cherish. I have his framed artwork all over the walls, and the house is full of things he made for me.
I must have interpreted this wrong. When Frank says, Pleasure comes in many forms, I thought that Nancy may have been dropping hints that she wanted this set and he knew it was going to make her happy. And it is true that what gifts you may want do change over the years.
True spatula story. My dad and my uncle were mountain men. To them, Christmas was for the children and the adults rarely got one another gifts. Even the children only got a few special treats or maybe a toy or two. So when my dad got my mom a teacup and saucer decorated with roses for Christmas she was offended and angry. Now in reality, he was being thoughtful. He knew she loved coffee in the morning and wanted her to have something pretty to drink it out of and maybe think of him when she did so. She called up and aunt and told her about his “gift” expecting sympathy. My aunt said. You are so lucky! All I got was an egg turner and a skillet! My uncle had noticed her old ones were worn out so he replaced them. Frank is right. Pleasure does come in all sorts of ways. lol However, in Nancy’s case I’d say something slinky and a few chocolate covered strawberries and some champagne might be in order. Or if he’s short on cash a massage.
One of my favorite gifts from my husband was a blender. I asked for it (it’s way cool looking, chrome beehive retro). He thought I was joking, but I said to use your imagination. So he did, and included things like Marguita mix and tequila!
Still have it, still use it, still love that he did that for me!
My wife asked for three years for a carpet shampooer for Xmas before I realized she was serious. The nighties are gone, but we still have that shampooer!
Good grief! Giving a sexy garment is not “sexist”, nor is it only a gift for the man. It all depends on the preferences of the woman. Giving a practical gift is also okay – it depends on the preferences of the woman! Making “blanket” statements about anything is dehumanizing We are all different, and that’s okay!

UGH! Why is Frank so clueless on what to get Nancy for a Christmas gift??
Women don’t want spatulas, Frank. Get her some perfume or something she has been hinting at…
So what should Frank get Nancy for X-Mas??

They say it’s the thought that counts when it comes to gift giving.
And judging by what the guys are giving their “reasons for living,” they are expecting a “little something” in return.
As for what the ladies are going to give the guys?
Well, I hope they enjoy their ties. :-)
