OT, sort of: I made this for NyahNyahNyah, but I just had to share it with you guys because . . . my little leopard! :D Like father, like son! https://i.imgur.com/xQmbV5s.png
A couple of years ago now, while I was cleaning the bathroom, I glanced out the window and I saw this wee little white ball of fluff kind of tottering across the yard toward the house. It was really tiny but bigger than a rat. I went outside for a better look and it was a tiny baby opossum! I think it must have been plucked off mama because there were a couple puncture wounds on it and it appeared to be trying to find…I don’t know. Someplace safe, or mama who was long gone. I got my gloves and put it in a shoebox and it just looked at me like it was so glad it could stop walking. Took it to a wonderful place near us called Howell Nature Center where they checked it over, managed to patch it up and rehab it and then released it. I called a few times to check up on it. They’re wonderful there and took good care of it. And it was just the cutest thing ever!! I love opossums anyway but what a privilege to help the little thing.
It has been a long time since the cessation of hostilities and the making of a peace treaty. Perhaps the opossums will be inclined to join the raccoons to stymie a common enemy.
Oh dear. Well, at least the opossum looks as surprised as them. Perhaps this means they can get off on the right paw. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
A strategic alliance with the Opossums will be beneficial to all. Opossums eat moles, see well in the dark and are of a size that can fit into and traverse mole holes. Being omnivores they also like to root through the garbage whenever possible.
I foresee the army growing and the spoils of war being shared in a united victory.
So from the two previous encounters we have had with the Opossums (https://www.gocomics.com/breaking-cat-news/2020/03/15 and https://www.gocomics.com/breaking-cat-news/2020/06/24) they seem to be peace loving, friendly creatures, not to mention beneficial to humans AND they are immune to rabies! Have we had ANY indication as to how or why a war could have possibly occurred between the raccoons and the opossums? It just seems unlikely, based on the two encounters we have had. The raccoons must certainly have been the aggressors, it would seem to me. So maybe that’s why they are afraid of asking the Opossums for help?
Decibel seems to be settling in quite nicely. When Jora checked on her in the bathroom this morning, she had killed a rat. Good kitty. Update was outside the bathroom door growling until Jora let her in. Update found the half eaten rat, sniffed it a time or two, then decided to leave Decibel alone.
Now Decibel has moved to the kitchen and discovered the corner cabinet. Update is interested but not pushing it, and Database is sticking to her safe place on top of the (unplugged) microwave on top of the minifridge. Peace reigns. At least for now.

Ah, I thought she was seeking allies. Well, I suspect she will find some in any case!
Er, eventually. You know, once the awkward introductions are over with.

I would like to point out that as Thorn says, the word is OPOSSUM. I’m sure Robin can tell us about possums, which are Australian creatures.

It’s impossible
Not to love a Georgia sky
It’s just not possible
It’s impossible
So, will opossum let them by?
Well, it’s opossible -
And tomorrow
As they plan to regain their world
And somehow get it
Back from one angry mole who may regret it
For to live without their stuff -
It’s just impossible
Impossible
Impossible!

Beatrixia: You need to come along with us, Thomios. And Floof as well.
Floofnet the Joyous: It sounds like we need to explore this You Call This a Pyramid. And I’d like to try some of the ingredients in the pantry.
Bea: I think we can arrange that. And maybe we can plan a banquet when you’re done.
Thomios: And if we need any special utensils, I know who can make them.
Ora Z: Do you need any help?
Thomios: I’m sure we can use some help. We’ll figure it out.
Ora Z: I can shred things.
Floofnet: We’ll see what we can do.
Thomios: Anybody hear something? It sounded like someone sawing wood.
Iggy: I’m right here, and I’m not making anything right now.
Bea: It seems to be coming from the Comfy Chairs. I think I know who. Obadiah? Is that you?
Obadiah Opossum: Just nodded off there. I was reading Hanging Upside Down by Maris Marsupial.
Bea: Maybe you can do a presentation on possums and opossums while Bill Platypus is staying with us.
Obadiah: Sounds great. And I can get my band together, The Dogcodiles to perform.

Brothers in arms,
In body and breath,
Soldiers at heart,
In life and in death,
A warriors spirit,
In us both Imbued,
Brothers in blood,
Brothers in feud.
Brothers in arms,
A unit unbroken,
Kindred in cause,
Reasons unspoken;
Fight side by side,
Struggle in silence,
Victory brings strength,
Enraptured by Violence.
Brothers in arms,
Sibling in creed,
Embodied as one,
As a unit we bleed;
We cannot be broken,
Though trials will test,
Until victory is ours,
We shall never rest.
