Is the Halloween party so boring that the guests need to be on their phones for entertainment?

I hope Bets comes inside and doesn’t just drive away after seeing Stef’s pic.

Bets has been in the social media game for a while. I doubt some negative comments will shock her.

I’m happy to see that it looks like G+K have been reading the comment section. So when are they going to drop Stef from the strip?? ;) lol

How, what a sick burn for all the commenters here. Basement-dwelling Dweebs. G&K are being awfully judgemental about people they don’t even know. But then the people who have been following the Bets and Gun show all summer long (if not longer) DO know Bets and Gun. They have been with them everyday for several months. Just as the commenters here have been reading this strips for months (years!). We know the authors. we know the product. If the comments are critical it not from trolling but from long experience with this strip and these authors.

Wow. I waited until 1am just to see additional commentary on the commentary which may or may not be mocking our commentary? I feel like such a basement-dwelling dweeb. I’m going to bed.

Why? Stefani Bird needs to leave party now before Luann finds out?

Will Bets enter the Farrell Mansion or turn the Van around and become a vagabond?

Bets is still in the van or on her way in…or off in a cloud of dust. We won’t know until Saturday…notice Tiffany said she hoped Gunther and Luann wouldn’t read the comments but doesn’t mention Bets, probably because she’s hoping for some drama at her party. if the authors are the strip are targeting any actual commenters here, it’s probably the few who comment on their motives or feelings toward the characters without knowing the real people who create the strip.

Agreed. A bunch of Dweebs is just being too kind in this case.

All the subtlety of a tank with the “Take that” to the people snarking on the strip (I guess the fun people had joking about the novella got to ‘em). Ah well. For what it’s worth, I know I can snark I do try to at least point out the good work the Evanses do. Like, for example, I like the facial expressions on Dez and Tiff in panel 3 and Tiffany’s hairstyle’s flattering.

And the characters aren’t exactly “people we don’t even know,” considering most people are joking about the poor decisions the characters were written to do. It’s kind of part of the writing/feedback process.

This is the 2nd time Bets ran off/away to fix her issues. Will she “ever” stop running away to solve her problems?

Wait ‘till Tiff’s basement dweebs start taking a second look at the sexy Luann and the comments begin to swing to questions about her.

I can see someone asking Gunther if he has seen the new picture on Bets’ platform. Gunther would say: “No, what is it?”

Then we go to a scene straight out of Ferris Beuller where Cameron just realized that the guys at the garage put about 150 or 200 miles on his Dad’s 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder. We next hear a loud primal scream. Ferris said he feared Cameron blew out a microchip, I suspect we would see the same reaction from Gunther with Luann looking after the G-Man like Sloane (Mia Sara) did in the movie.

Gunther is a lot like Cameron Frye, dude does need to loosen up, this might help him as Cameron was actually helped in the long run by Ferris and the Ferrari.

Where’s Kip? He’s the only one we haven’t seen at the party…

Tiff, as usual, is totally clueless! Judges people she doesn’t know while claiming she would never do that. ANd, just when I was starting to like Tiff, too.

Im wonderin if hotels near Comic Cons have blocks of rooms that are made to look like basements for some of th ones at the Con so they’ll feel jus like home

We have two more days. Somehow I don’t think Bets is going to come in on Friday. Maybe she will on Saturday, and we will have a cliffhanger, or maybe we will see her drive east toward the rising sun. Or maybe she will head north on 101 into the darkness. I don’t think we will see anyone in costume on Monday because it will be 13 days after Halloween.

This may be a meta statement. I do think that the comments here frequently used to get personally insulting about Greg and Karen, despite that they are trying their best to spread light and kindness in a largely dark world, and that there has been a lot of very undeserved hostility here towards Bets as well.

I have a strong feeling that the reading audience has just been told to go to **ll. Apparently it is inappropriate to judge fictional entertainment characters on the basis of how they’ve been vividly portrayed and presented to the readers??

What a contrast! Bets is out having an existential crisis. While Dez and Tiffany are annoyed, but don’t seem angry at Stef for posting photos with dubious texts (they know she’s dumb). Maybe Tiffany doesn’t think Bets can see it too? Will she think about it if Bets doesn’t make it to the party and then, will she try to repair the damage? I hope Tiffany says something to Stef about posting photos that can cause harm. I keep hoping that Bets will come in to talk to Gunther alone, without a livestream. Also, I’d love to see how Gunther and Luann would react seeing the comments.

The first rule of the internet is to never read comments. Good advice then, good advice now.

Seems Tiffany is being ironically hypocritical in the 3rd frame, but with the way social media has evolved with fans and friends and followers, we get to “know” these “basement-dwelling dweebs” (are GnK talking to us?) by how they comment. Yes, of course, Raggedy Ann means physically, face-to-face knowing somebody.

I was recently at a family dinner of 5 of us, aged 21, 50, 54, 77 and 78. At one point, I (77); looked around the table and saw only the 21-year-old NOT on his phone!

notice Tiff is worried about l and Gun’ , I mean she’s actually being nice, but forgetting Betts who she knew was coming.

Ah. So EVERY comment left by a reader is “stupid and annoying”? Funny, in my business we depend on our customer satisfaction, and I would rather hear from an angry customer than lose them. That’s worked for 40 years, but maybe that’s somehow ‘stupid and annoying’ for someone unable to accept criticism.

Please. Let this arc end. The day after it started would’ve been a day too long.

Re the suggestion that today’s strip is GnK lambasting those of us who on Luann on platforms such as gocomics: GnK are professionals who know that criticism comes with the territory. Yes it’s possible that they’re gently nudging some of the commenters here – however – I suspect the biting commentary and characterization is aimed at the world of social media out there, particularly the constant scrutiny and anonymous, often intentionally cruel, criticism young people can be subjected to on social media.

What, Steph went on for 125 comments. Oh and Dez, you know Steph and her b!tchy ways and so does Tiff so let the name call and judgments flow forth.

Saturday will probably end the week with a cliff hanger. Either a mild one with Gunther expressing some emotion; anger or fear of what Bets reaction might be. Or a major one with Bets express anger OR saying good bye to Gunther.

Although Stef deliberately took the picture so she could post it on Bets website, Tiffany doesn’t have any room to be acting so high and mighty! She orchestrated the whole thing by suggesting Gunther and Luann come to the party as a “couple”. I always wondered why they had her do that, since she and Bets have bee depicted as friends, but since these comic strip characters aren’t real people, it’s perfectly fine to point out all the inconsistent behavior they get up to.

Social media? Anti social media is more like it.

I’m amused that some people think Tiff’s comments are G & K’s way of slamming the commenters here. Regular posters here are a tiny, tiny fraction of their audience. It has to be a comment on commenters in general.

And you gotta love the irony about Tiff calling out people that name-call and judge people by judging them and calling them names!

Even money that Bets turns the tables and come in dressed to the nines in some slinky get up. She’s not a shrinking violet! She’ll get her man!

Hmm, I may have to rethink my assumption about Tiff’s motives. She may have been entirely well-meaning, just not thinking through how it might look. She and Bets (and most people her age, to be fair) have a lot of growing up to do still. But Stef went and seized the moment to create a bit of drama.

A lot of people here are feeling directly insulted by G&K today. Take it for what it is, people. I initally saw it as nothing more than an attack on the usual low-hanging fruit (in this case, online commenters in general), but if it’s indeed a rebuke of me personally then I’ll decide if it’s warranted and adjust my behavior and manner appropriately. No need to get thin-skinned (after all, I’ve dished it out so I should be able to take it.) I’m not gonna look at G&K with the same disdain I have for Brooke McEldowney when he decides to lash out at anyone who dares to comment on his strip.

My prediction for tomorrow’s (or Saturday’s strip) Dez and Tiff still talking about Stef’s post. Dez mentions she hopes Bets hasn’t seen it. That she’s so sensitive to the comments. Tiff gets a panicked look on her face, last panel shows her frantically texting on her phone ( whaddya think?).

OH NO! We have been thoroughly insulted by the writers. Now we must never comment on this comic again.

If, in fact, todays strip is a dig at the Luann followers (which I don’t believe), and G&K intend to spend their time developing strips to berate their commenters (as some people seem to think this one is today) instead of resolving some of their unfinished story lines – well, that would be really silly. I would like to see Tom Farrell get a phone call from the police telling him they caught the burglar/window breaker – just for starters.

The joke is about how hypocritical Tiffany is. If it was at the expense of Luann commenters, her eyes would be looking directly at the camera. Which would have honestly been pretty funny!

It’s rare that someone makes Dez upset! I hope now more people see what a jerk Stef really is!

I don’t understand why a lot of people are saying/hoping that as soon as Kip finds out what Stefi did, he’ll break up with her!

Why should he?

They’re acting like Kip has been portrayed as this incredible kind, sensitive, nice guy, who deeply cares about other people’s feelings. I’ve never seen that, so if it has been shown, please point it out to me.

Kip has taken Stefi’s part in the past, even when she was clearly in the wrong. I think Kip knows exactly how Stefi behaves, and as long as she’s willing to put out, he’s willing to put up with it. Personally, I don’t look for a breakup between them anytime soon, nor do I care.

Let’s put aside the cognitive dissonance of Tiffany and Dez for now. (And the fact we would think better of Dez.) I want to take note of how Stef is so eager for social media attention that ruining others’ relationships, even weak ones, doesn’t bother her.

How strange. It never occurred to me that G&K were aiming that barb at their readers. That assumes they read this group. I do hope that all this motivates Bets to go offline and work on her real people relationships.

Anyone who thinks that the posts here are uniquely critical of the writers should take a look at what has been going on for some time with ‘Crankshaft’, where the writer shut down another ‘toon (Funky Winkerbean) and migrated many of those characters to the ’Crankshaft’ ‘toon. Today’s comments on ‘Crankshaft’ are really mild, but go back a few weeks and you’ll see what I mean…
