As I said yesterday, Dez was talking metaphorically. Bets, like so many here, couldn’t interpret it, so Dez had to spell it out for her. Good for Dez. Let’s see if Bets will move forward with this new knowledge. I see this as positive for Bets who may end up more likable for all the Bets haters here.
Credit where it’s due here people. Dez has been talking in metaphors all week. And probably would have continued, if Bets hadn’t put her foot down. Plus her advice doesn’t quite touch Bets’ main issue. Her pathological need for attention and/or approval.
Bets needed some time to feel bad and scared about the decisions she’s made and still has to make. But yes, it’s time for her to have a plan: Go back online or try something else for work? Stick with Gunther or cut him loose, so they could each meet someone else? I’m hoping for the breakup — Bets wasn’t a conflicted or unhappy person early in their relationship, when she was already very involved with her online world. But if there’s something else she’d like to do, she needs to get any old job for money while figuring out what her next big goal could be.
‘Get off your whiny b u t t and get on with life!’
‘Please stop it with the metaphors!’
‘Okay! Get off your whiny @$$, get it in gear and figure it out before you drive everyone here in th comic and all the readers of the comic crazy!! Now get out of here!’
‘OMG!! Someone please help! Dez jus had a stroke! Help!! Dez? Dez? DEZ?!? Oh, nooo..’
For me, Dez remains the one of the few likable characters. She tried to be kind, Betts was snotty about it. Betts criticized her ways and told her to just say what she means, Dez delivered. The bluntness came only after it was requested.
Sure thing Dez! I’ll just start a blog called “Dez’s ditzy advice”, build a lucrative fan base, and see how you like being attacked online. Bets has as much of a pulse as the rest of the characters on here, she does have a “life”. She doesn’t need to meet anyone else’s standards for a “life” other than that. At best, the reason she doesn’t appear to have a “life” per Dez is because she chose to give up a subject she was interested in and compensated for to hitch her buggy to Gunther’s non existent “life” plans. Bets needs to have a talk with Gunther about there mutual future and HIS role in it (providing for her? Moving out? Getting a more lucrative job than TA? Coming to terms with the “old Bets” being gone and supporting that chainge?). If Gunther isn’t willing to chainge, maybe it IS time to pull the plug on that relationship and get a better defined relationship elsewhere.
I really hate what G&K are doing to Bets. 1. Bets is in Business School. 2. Bets is extremely intelligent, remember she helped Tiffany in studies. 3. Bets has to do an internship. BTW, it should be in 2024 or 2025. 4. Bets should get a finance degree. I see only one problem with Bets, she’s way out of Gunther’s league.
Bets needs to admit that she was only interested in Gunther as long as she could use him to get hits on the internet. Without that component, she has no use for him.
And is Dez still a student? What’s her major? Have we ever seen her actually going to a class or doing anything school related, other than living in a dorm?
I’m with Dez. Bets has been steeped in her own pity party for too long. She’s swinging between extremes and catastrophizing her situation. Get on with it.
And despite what some “folks” say here today it’s pretty GOOD advice.
Although I don’t see why Bets needs to be told that, since she was perfectly willing to “get on with her life” each time she broke up with her so-called “liars and cheaters” in the past.
Dez is spot on. Bets isn’t getting on with life yet, and she needs to. Right now, she’s still mourning her influence r life. It’s a stage and largely a self pity party. When/if she gets to a point where she stops looking at a door that’s closing and looks towards doors that are opening – then she’ll be properly moving on.
Well, Dez definitely got to the point. Sooo, is Bets getting on with her life going to be w/o Gunther as we can figure she’s going to get back with her social media.
Betts is ADDICTED to social media. She is either all in ( and that ruins her life with Gunn) or she is all out, no other option. If she wants a life with Gunn (who plays second fiddle to her “fan”) then she has to step away from her addiction.
Dez has a point. But I preferred her metaphors, they are more poetic. I think she agrees to be direct with Bers because they have been friends for years. Her advice is good, but what to do is something that Bets has decides and I wonder what she will do. She has to rethink an entire career and it’s not easy. I hope Tiffany is involved in all of that. The two together can do great things.
“My empty life”. That is what some people would call a “Freudian Slip”. Sounds like Bets needs to get honest and break up with Gunther so that she can have the freedom to decide who she really is and what she really wants to be, without the pressure of trying to conform to his ideals and expectations. She has the ability to fly, but right now, and for some time, Gunther has been an anchor around her neck. I would have been done with him after the disastrous dinner with Al and Irma when he didn’t stick up for her, personally.
Isaiah 58:11 New Living Translation (NLT)The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.
Well the kind subtle approach didn’t work so Dez has decided to just lay it on the line. She’s right. No one but Bets can fix this. No one can do the work for her. I get it that she’s lost and empty and depressed. So she should talk to a real counselor—-not Bernice! I don’t agree with those who say she should return to social media “just a little” in order to make income. She clearly cannot handle that right now and would soon be just as obsessed as she was before. She needs to take Dez’s advice and focus on finding OTHER THINGS positive things that she can do to nurture her sense of self without the quick easy fix of adoring “fans”. No matter what she would like to believe the “fans” are not her family and if they were they would be a bad and dysfunctional family. She has many other better relationships in her life, including a guy who loves her and friends who care about her. All the rest is just junk food for the soul.
