Before making a major change, many smart people seem advice from experienced elders.
For example, before choosing a career many young adults talk to wizened experts in the field. Before getting married, many young couples seek premarital counseling to guide them through financial, social, legal changes. Does anyone offer pre-pregnancy counseling? These two sure need it.
Expressing the opinion that a storyline is unpleasant is called ‘expressing an opinion’. It’s not called ‘whining’. I expect those of you who enjoyed sinking your teeth into those of us who didn’t care for this arc will, of course, never, ever be guilty of ‘whining’ yourselves and will adore every arc henceforth. The one benefit of this vacation was that the Count seemed to have vanished…
Art was good, but storyline was beyond stupid. Tough audience, but not evil like Thanos. We are merely harsh, like Draco and subscribe to a Draconian type law.
I think this was a test to see if we remain loyal to the comic after this… I got nothing against the guest artist, it just did not work on these characters in my opinion!
I see many negative comments about this arc that I don’t think are warranted. Dream sequences are a legitimate plot device. This is ironic showing intentionally unrealistic family dynamics while they consider starting a family. Could you write and draw fresh material every day?
That’s a pretty hefty price there though. Kinda reminds me of that 70s Game Show- "The Price Is Right is an American television game show where contestants compete by guessing the prices of merchandise to win cash and prizes. A 1972 revival by Mark Goodson and Bill Todman of their 1956–1965 show of the same name, the new version added many distinctive gameplay elements. Contestants are selected from the studio audience: the announcer calls their name, invoking them to “Come on down!”, the show’s famous catchphrase."
1) The artist is skillful and is very good at drawing. However, the style of this artist is so far removed from the “Luann” style (both early or current) that it has been disconcerting. I much prefer Greg’s clean lines for “Luann”.
2) The story line over that last two weeks (apparently written by G & K) FEELS TO ME to be meant to be a slap to the face to commenters who complain about and are polarized about the Shannon/Toni/Brad arcs.
3) While many commenters CAN be over the top…. in my read of these last two weeks it seems G & K wrote these absolutely absurdist stories as a type of “Up yours!” statement to those extreme commenters.
4) So…. since I rarely comment here anymore… I will simply state that the for me the last two weeks of comics was not enjoyable, and I look forward to a return to normal “Luann” next week.
In the end both Brad and Toni dream to have children to love and be loved by. The quantity changes, but not the desire. These two weeks have been different and fun, my only regret is that we didn’t get to see Luann drawn by Jay Fosgitt. But who knows, maybe tomorrow there could be the surprise of a Sunday page drawn by him? Also, now I REALLY want to see Brad and Toni become parents!
getting exhausted by this 50s throwback senario… Can we return to the story line involving a very together professional couple who have chosen to care for their orphaned niece.
My mom had 9 siblings. My dad had 4. I have 4 brothers. My wife and I have 2 kids. When I was asked how many kids I wanted, I replied whatever my wife wants. She wanted 2, that’s what we had, and it was something we talked about before getting married.
Glad to see this in color! In B&W (in the local online newspaper) I couldn’t figure out what was up with the baby’s mouth. I thought for sure (s)he had a little goatee and mustache! In color, I can see it’s a pacifier.
A couple of things I think the MAJORITY of commenters here will agree upon: 1) The guest artist is talented in and of himself. 2) The storyline isn’t “bad” – maybe even an interesting diversion! – in and of itself. But 3) The guest artwork combined with the out-of-the-ordinary storyline was….well….a BAD combination. Combined, it was so far removed from the Luann we all know and love, it was just too much. WAY too much. And that’s why those of us who can’t wait for it to be over with and GO AWAY NEVER TO RETURN….feel that way.
So in this fantasy world did Toni quit her job to have and raise all those kids or did Brad become a house husband as it was his choice to have a large family?
I don’t know what the point of brother Jessie is, since Shannon already seems to live with Brad and Toni 365 days a year. Luann is one of my favorite comics but I can’t wait for this arc to end…I don’t know why TJ continues to live there with a whiny little brat intent on destruction, with no discipline, no boundaries…I’d like to see more TJ centric stories, come to think of it. but enough with shannon, regardless of the artist
When Prince William & Princess Kate had a third child there was some UK grumbling in that the average family in Great Britain could not afford a third child.
So I guess the point here is that Toni and Brad both want well-raised children, and both think that that’ll just happen naturally by the kid being in their presence, with no work required on their part. Have either of them ever stopped to think that maybe part of the reason for Shannon’s awfulness is their failure to impose any kind of boundaries on her? Reminds me of something I saw online recently where some (I hope to god fictional) parent was convinced that their kid would learn to read on their own just like how they learned to walk without help. They thought that all they had to do was leave books lying around and the kid would figure it out. Is this how Brad and Toni think discipline works?
The last two weeks have been an interesting diversion and brought some insight into Brad and Toni, even if not canon. I hope the Evans’ enjoyed their summer vacation.
I am an Independent who leans right fiscally but left of center socially. I am 100% pro choice. However, I do feel we should be more focused on preventing pregnancy than ending it. If we developed good choices for birth control that were more effective we would have fewer abortions. No child should have to come into the world unwanted.
Somewhere between Toni’s dream and Brad’s, is how Shannon would be if they raised Shannon full-time. She might not have become a Doggie Kamealoha clone, bbut neither would she be a lovable goofball clone of Brad either. She’d be unique.
It’s pretty sad when someone can take a totally innocuous comic, and turn it into their political soap box. People that do this over every single comic must not have much for lives.
Okay since every one is being rabid inhere, I’ll throw one more middle-road comment in here…you are aware they are lumping completely separate procedures like the rape & incest “care” procedures in with on-demand abortive care just to scare you into thinking this is a dark path to breeding camps right? Those, in almost every state I’m aware of is NOT on the table at al. 2nd, this is not an anti-choice crusade, this is taking what would be controlled by an un-elected federal bureaucrat functionary and returns it into the hand of the states where you have way more control of what happens. You want free-for-all walk in walk-out with a pile of ash? Get involved in your state elections. Don’t want people just being able to do it “willy nilly” ( not my choice of term, hence quotes), get involved. Most people have decided getting involved in issues is too messy and left it to activist groups and the Federal government, so when that power structure (and greed/corruption pipeline) is threatened you’re going to get some really bizarro unrealistic things thrown at you. End of day, both sides are throwing to much fear around and almost all of you are captured by it.
